Introduction
The purpose of this mini project was to design and analyze a model airplane using basic engineering principles.
The project involved conceptualizing the design, creating a prototype, and performing various analyses to evaluate
its performance characteristics.
Objective
- Conceptualization: Brainstorming sessions were conducted to generate ideas for the airplane design. Factors such as
aerodynamics, stability, and weight distribution were considered.
- CAD Modeling: Computer-aided design (CAD) software (SolidWorks) was used to create a detailed 3D model of
the airplane, including its fuselage, wings, tail, and control surfaces.
- Component Selection: Selection of appropriate materials and components such as wings, body, and back wings with
Styrofoam.
2. Analysis Phase
- Aerodynamic Analysis: Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed to analyze the airflow
around the airplane and optimize its aerodynamic performance.
- Structural Analysis: Finite element analysis (FEA) was used to evaluate the structural integrity of the airplane
design and ensure that it could withstand the forces experienced during flight.
- Stability and Control Analysis: Simulations were conducted to assess the stability and control characteristics of the
airplane design, including stability derivatives and control surface effectiveness.
3. Testing Phase
- Prototype Construction: All parts of airplane was form manually with Styrofoam wings, body, and tail. And after
all successfully assemble the airplane.
- Flight Testing: The prototype was tested in a controlled environment, and its flight characteristics were evaluated.
Data such as flight speed, altitude, and maneuverability were recorded and analyzed to assess the performance of the
design.
Results
- Analysis reports documenting aerodynamic performance, structural integrity, and stability characteristics.
- Flight test data and observations, including any modifications made to the design based on testing results.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the mini project provided valuable insights into the process of designing and analyzing an airplane. By
applying engineering principles and utilizing modern tools and techniques, we were able to develop a functional
prototype with satisfactory performance characteristics. Further refinements and optimizations could be made based on
additional testing and feedback.
