Who is MapleNetTM for?

MapleNetTM offers a complete software platform to enhance mathematics and related
courses over the Web. It is ideally suited to meet the emerging challenges of distance,
continuing, professional, and many other non-traditional forms of education
and training.

In some sense, MapleNetTM has something for everyone at an institution.

Instructors: MapleNetTM offers innovative software components to make it easy for

instructors to create and distribute electronic supplements and enhancements to
courses.

Students: MapleNetTM provides students with a rich interactive environment to

explore difficult concepts. MapleNetTM applications and lesson components can be
easily launched from any browser and do not require any advanced computing
knowledge to run. Students can spend their time learning rather than operating
software.

Information system administrators: MapleNetTM is easy to install, maintain, and

completely scaleable to large-scale initiatives. An average system administrator will
be able to install MapleNetTM within hours. More importantly, MapleNet provides
easy to use administration model that makes it easy to set up student access,
manage user IDs, and monitor and adust processes.

Academic administrators: in many ways, MapleNetTM is about helping an

institution meet its goals: academic and business goals. As important as
curriculum enhancement is, today’s fiscal realities are forcing administrators to
creatively develop new program offerings to expand the revenue base, continue to
improve the quality of the educational experience, and to offer high levels of
innovation to attract the best and the greatest numbers of students. MapleNetTM is
uniquely designed to help institutions achieve all of these elements. It deployes
leading edge software components such as the Maple intelligent mathematics
software engine, and Java-based Web-interfaces to place you ahead of competing
institutions. Flexible licensing options are tuned to be fully compatible with
emerging trends within education. Whether you prefer to maintain a purely
institutional license, or distribute the cost via extremely modest fees as part of
your overall fee structure, MapleNet will be the most cost-effective way to bring
the benefits of the future of education to your students today.

MapleNetTM Components
MapleNetTM offers robust and flexible components to make electronic delivery of
innovative mathematical curriculum easy and efficient. Its primary architecture
consists of the following:

MapleNetTM Server coordinates all of the essential infrastructure software including

the general web server, math engines, and content and other databases. Unique ele-
ments include a general driver architecture that allows you to add functionality in the
future, and a convenient administration system that facilitates easy system and user
management . Included in the base MapleNet license is a server-enabled version of
the legendary Maple 7 system that enables intelligent mathematical computation from
arithmetic to advanced algebra and calculus, and beyond.

MapleNetTM Publisher offers tools to create innovative applet-based exploration tools

and to help migrate traditional content quickly into Web-compatible format.
Experienced Java programmers can develop unique applets to their exact
specifications. Novice instructors can use MapletsTM to create advanced
educational applets without ever touching Java.

MapleNetTM Client is what the student sees which is simply the educational content
encapsulated in a rich environment that encourages interaction and concept
exploration. With minimal effort MapleNet Client components can be integrated into
popular curriculum distribution environments such as Blackboard or WebCT.

Future Components include software to perform automatic answer checking using

the intelligent math engine. Instructors will be able to deploy more sophisticated
assessment methods than True or False, or multiple choice tests.
