User productivity
General usability
You can use facet filters to quickly filter table columns based on the current table values.
• As you type text for your search criteria, Active Workspace automatically narrows the list of values.
• Clicking Show Filters displays all the values for the table column.
Your user profile settings, such as group, role, ID display rule, and revision display rule, can now be
permanently displayed along the bottom of your browser window.
You can now export table data to Microsoft Excel and share this with users who may not have access
to Active Workspace.
• Columns that are not needed can be removed from the export.
You can now copy a file download link by right-clicking an attachment and choosing Copy File
Download Link. This copies the link to the Teamcenter and OS clipboard. The attachment link can
then be shared with others or pasted into a browser window and downloaded.
Quick Access is now located in the global navigation on the left side of the Active Workspace
browser window. This makes it easier to access the objects you have recently worked with, data
saved to the clipboard, and objects tagged as your favorites.
• Add or remove project team members using groups, roles, or users by clicking Add to open
Organization to search your organization.
• Define project team member roles, such as Privileged, Non-privileged, and Team
Administrator, using the Status field within TEAM MEMBERS.
This utility purges messages based on the purge threshold that you set using the
SCM_newsfeed_purge_threshold preference.
Visualization
Active Workspace and Lifecycle Visualization interoperability
Active Workspace Application Connect is a new generation of interoperability that supports interaction
between Active Workspace running in an external browser and other applications. In contrast
to the previous Hosted mode, Active Workspace Application Connect supports a broad set of
modern browsers, allowing a connected Active Workspace session to run in a browser tab operating
outside of the Teamcenter Lifecycle Visualization desktop application. This means users can take
advantage of the better performance of modern browsers while leveraging interoperability functions
like cross-selection.
When this feature is active, selecting the Open in Visualization command opens the current
assembly as a document in the Teamcenter Lifecycle Visualization desktop application. A new
browser tab opens that supports an interoperable connection to Lifecycle Visualization. As with the
previous hosted solution, this interoperability supports cross-selection between the Active Workspace
session in the new browser tab and the document opened in the Lifecycle Visualization desktop
application that shows the loaded assembly.
For information on Active Workspace and Lifecycle Visualization interoperability, see Teamcenter
Lifecycle Visualization help.
Usability updates
• To disable the viewer from loading the model when the model is opened, set the AWC_visAllOn
user preference to False. This is useful when loading large assemblies.
• The Section panel has been enhanced to allow greater flexibility when creating 3D sections,
including the ability to independently show Capping Faces or Cut Lines and to control the
display of cut lines.
• When viewing 3D data, users can choose whether their data is rendered on the client or on
the server. Client-side rendering is more responsive and typically used for smaller data sizes.
Server-side rendering is more suited for larger data sizes due to its higher data limit.
• Administrators can configure how relevance factors are applied to search results using several
new methods for boosting.
• Administrators can improve performance by setting a maximum threshold count for returned
results. When a search is too broad and results would be time-consuming, limiting the count can
help the user refine their search to a more reasonable list.
• Display names for properties are now searchable. When enabled, users no longer have to know
the internal database name to return results. As display names can be localized, properties can
be searched in multiple languages.
If you set the global constant Awp0IndexLocalizedValues to true and re-index, the index picks
up the localized values. Awp0IndexLocalizedValues is set to false by default.
• External objects can now be included in Advanced search queries with a custom method.
Administrators can now improve user navigation and control of the Filter panel display, including:
• Configuring a filter category expansion limit to display the most commonly used filters.
Datasets can now be indexed inline with their associated Item Revisions or subtypes, which means
search results can now return the Item Revision or subtype that contains the dataset.
Search servers for global search and shape search support is upgraded for this release:
• With this release of Active Workspace, you must upgrade to Indexing Engine (Solr) version 7.7.
You need to reindex your data to be compatible with the Solr upgrade.
Classification
The artificial intelligence (AI) engine is trained on your data and predicts classes that may be suitable
for the object that you are classifying. If Geolus is configured, the suggested classes take shape
data of an associated JT file into account as well. Classification also suggests possible property
values by pre-populating the attributes from the closest matching classified object, helping with
property value population.
Indexing only classification data that has changed since the last round of indexing (delta indexing)
reduces the need for full Solr re-indexing in most cases.
Switch between units or enter data in units other than the base unit
Improvements in unit management provide you with more unit options when entering or viewing data.
For example, the class unit is metric but you can enter a weight in pound, and the value is converted
automatically to the required kilogram value.
Select an object and choose Search similar. This performs a search or allows you to widen the
scope of the search to find similar objects by changing the class hierarchy or property values from
the source object.
Find the classification installation and configuration documentation in one location. The Classification
and Libraries Management One-stop Guide has been removed.
Resource Manager
You can easily examine resource structures in Teamcenter Active Workspace, including the way
components are assembled from the machine side to the workpiece side, by using the Diagram
or Diagram with Summary options.
o Chips
o Avatar
A read-only placeholder is shown for UI elements that are not supported in the Panel Builder
yet, allowing you to remove them or change their placement.
• Configure the visibleWhen attribute for page and content XRT elements to respond to the value
of a property of a related object using DCP.
• Your users now have the benefits of column configuration on objectSet tables, even if you do
not configure it.
• Set individual columns of objectSet tables to be hidden by default, allowing faster table load
times for your users on large tables.
• Publish your local development site to a gateway file repository instead of deploying a WAR file.
• Helmet for NodeJS used in the Active Workspace gateway enables improved security to your
deployment.
• Use a JavaScript project editor to manage your development environment. This release of Active
Workspace ships with experimental support for VSCode from Microsoft.
• If you used JavaScript, it will continue to work for now, but you will need make sure it is converted
to ES6 as soon as possible.
Use the provided scripts to aid you in your conversion.
• Some uses of third-party libraries will need to be adjusted for use with WebPack.
Caution
• RequireJS and related build scripts will eventually be removed in the upcoming
releases. This means if you have any direct references to requireJS in your
bootstrap.json or JS customizations, you may need to remove them in the future before
building the customization. For further information, please contact GTAC.
• If you have any custom elements (angularJS directives) in your customization, you
may have to do some refactoring to those directives in the future releases. For further
information, please contact GTAC.
Process execution
Schedule Manager
Program Views
You can create a Program View that contains multiple schedules and schedule tasks and displays
them in a single Gantt chart view.
• View all the Program Views you have created in the My Program Views list.
• Inactive members of a schedule template can be ignored when creating a new schedule from the
template.
• The schedule tasks table has been enhanced to show new state and status indicators.
Program Planning
Replace program deliverable revisions
You can replace a program deliverable revision when it changes or matures as the program is worked
to completion or events are met.
• A single program deliverable can be selected and replaced with a specific revision you select
from a list.
• Multiple program deliverables can be selected and replaced with the latest revision.
• The program Overview tab now contains new sections that show program references and
revisions.
o The References section shows where the program deliverable is used, such as in a parent
program.
o The Revisions section shows all the revisions for the program deliverable.
• The template used to create a program is displayed in the Based On property in the program
Overview. You can click the link to view the template.
• Programs and program objects, such as risks, issues, and events, now have new state indicators.
Change Manager
Impact Analysis
The Impact Analysis tab is enhanced showing the relations and associations of objects attached to
a change.
• Impacted Candidates shows an expanded tree of items.
• Navigation is simplified for adding or removing impacted items. You can drag an impacted
candidate into the Impacted Items or using the intuitive arrows.
• You can track changes (additions, replacements, revisions, or deletions) to the assemblies using
a change notice. The active changes for a structure are displayed by default.
• The new Copy Options button provides a way to include specific items when deriving an ECR
to an ECN.
Change Dashboard
The Change Dashboard organizes and displays change information in a graphical and tabular
interface.
• New pie charts show the types of change, creation date, and maturity.
Clicking on a pie section filters the table below.
• Table columns are sortable for each change, user, status, and other pertinent information.
You can create a change object from any folder location, including Home and Newstuff.
• You can select and revise one or more Impacted Items in an ECN.
Workflow
Designing Workflows
• Provide visual cues for process and task templates as well as for online and offline templates.
• Import and export process templates, including those created in the Teamcenter rich client.
• Create custom workflow templates and update template properties using workflow handlers. Hints
are provided for the workflow handler arguments and their respective values to help users identify
mandatory and optional parameters. These hints can avoid runtime errors because validation is
performed during creation. A JSON file must be created for each handler to enable this feature.
You can add a custom task template to the Workflow Designer Task Palette using the following steps:
Caution
This is a required process in addition to Creating custom templates in the rich client.
• If you have a custom task template, add it to the new Workflow Designer Task Palette panel by
modifying the WRKFLW_Legend_Configuration.xml file. This is stored as a named reference
to the data set WorkflowGraphLegend.
Example
1. Open WRKFLW_Legend_Configuration.xml.
2. Add your custom task template to the list of menu objects in the order in which
you want it to appear.
<view name="WorkflowDesigner" displayName="Workflow Designer">
<defaultLayout>IncrementalHierarchic</defaultLayout>
<group name="objects">
<filter name="YourCustomDoTaskTemplate"
parameterSet="YourCustomDoTaskTemplate"/>
• Overrides
• Variant condition
• Substitute
• Global alternate
You can now add a substitute for a part in the structure in markup mode. In this mode, the proposed
change to a structure is highlighted in a different color or using a strikethrough, until it is committed
to the database.
You can now select the following duplication actions for individual child parts:
• Replace
The new structure replaces the selected object with the object specified in the Replace pane.
You can now search for and open a structure from the split view.
In the split view, you can work with two structures simultaneously. You can modify the structures
independently. Once either structure is updated to a different configuration, the Compare Content
functionality is enabled. You can also use the split view to copy an occurrence from one structure to
another using the drag-and-drop functionality.
The split view now shows the secondary work area. The secondary work area typically shows the
details of the content selected in the primary work area. The content of this area is controlled
by style sheets.
Applications
A configuration audit helps validate if the functional and physical requirements of a product meet the
requirements specified in the product configuration documentation.
The following actions indicate what you can do to validate the product requirements.
3. Associate related objects, such as audit items or items that are impacted with a configuration
audit.
Other enhancements
• When creating a submittal event, when you associate the submittal event with a schedule task,
the start date and the end date of the submittal event are now autopopulated with the same
values as those of the associated schedule task.
• Based on updates to any of the following, submittal events and submittals are impacted:
o Schedule tasks
o Event properties
o Alignment properties
• You can now assign a finish (or a finish group) to the occurrence of a part in an assembly by
setting the context of that assembly.
• You can attach a data requirement item or its revision to a contract based on the value the
administrator has set for the Cdm0AllowedDRIType preference.
See the Teamcenter Aerospace and Defense help for more details.
• You can attach a submittal or its revision to a schedule task based on the value the administrator
has set for the AttachSubmittalTypeRev preference.
See the Teamcenter Aerospace and Defense help for more details.
Content Management
Content Management is now supported on Active Workspace. Using this you can:
• Create DITA topic types
• Export topics
• XMetal integration. Using Active Workspace, you can open DITA content in XMetaL. You can
create and author topics in XMetaL and save the updated topics back to Teamcenter.
• Publish DITA topics. You can publish DITA topics in HTML, XHTML, and PDF formats using
available stylesheets. You can preview the PDF documents that are generated in Active
Workspace.
• Manage the translation process. You can send content for translation and manage translation
jobs.
Document Management
Digitally sign PDF files in Active Workspace
In Active Workspace, users can now apply Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) digital signatures to PDF
files. A PKI digital signature is a mathematical stamp applied to a PDF file and is used to indicate if
the file was modified after the signature was applied. It also identifies the user responsible.
For users to open the PDF files from Active Workspace to add digital signatures, the administrator
must install the Active Workspace Launcher and Document Management Teamcenter Client PDF
Sign applications on the client machines.
• NX (.prt)
• IGES (.igs)
• MATLAB (.mdl)
• WinZip (.zip)
• 7-Zip (.7z)
Users can zoom into and out of images, and pan these image files within the Active Workspace
viewer. They can also mark up these files in Active Workspace without converting the files to or
encapsulating them in PDF.
o Creating a flat structure by copying only the leaf nodes and by ignoring all the intermediate
subassembly levels created by the designers.
o Organizing the components differently under different subcollectors in a manner that is more
efficient for simulation analysis.
o Choosing desired parts or subassemblies from more than one product structure.
• Generate a geometry structure from an existing product structure or a product collector structure
You can now use the CAEGA domain option to generate a geometry structure from an existing
product structure or a product collector that contains the CAD assemblies.
• Support for file upload or URL create conflict options and file download options during tool launch
While launching a preconfigured simulation tool, you can now specify file upload or URL create
conflict options by selecting the Prompt User or Auto-process options.
Teamcenter Quality
• View the formsheet for failure effects, failure causes, and all other related actions
You can view the complete FMEA data of the system element representation such as failure
effects, failure causes, and all other related actions in the Formsheet view. The FMEA formsheet
is based on the industry handbook of FMEA published by the US-based Automotive Industry
Action Group (AIAG) in collaboration with the German Association of the Automotive Industry
(VDA) in June 2019. This is referred to as AIAG & VDA FMEA Handbook.
Control Plan
Use the following enhancements to accomplish tasks more easily and efficiently.
• New terminology
You can create a new version of a Quality Characteristic by clicking Edit > Start Edit from
the Primary toolbar.
Problem Solving
Use the following enhancements to accomplish tasks more easily and efficiently.
An Ishikawa diagram is a graphical tool that helps your team to brainstorm and identify the
causes and the categories of causes that result in the problem. The categories help the team
to ensure that all causes in a particular category are recorded. If a category has few causes,
the team can focus their brainstorming on that category to capture any missing causes. After
identifying all the causes and listing them in the correct categories, you can analyze the diagram
to mark the root cause of the problem.
An Ishikawa diagram is also called a cause-and-effect diagram or a fishbone diagram because it
represents the causes and their effect in a fishbone-like pattern.
You can use the following categories to group your causes:
o Man: List the causes related to the people involved in the problem.
o Machine: List the causes related to the equipment involved in the problem.
o Method: List the causes related to the methods and procedures involved in the problem.
o Material: List the causes related to the raw materials and parts involved in the problem.
Note
You can also add other categories, apart from the above 6Ms as per your requirements,
such as Product, Price, Supplier, and so on.
Starting this release, you can attach different types of files to an issue or CAPA to aid in its
investigation. You can also attach any type of Teamcenter object that is in the Teamcenter
database. For example, you can attach an item revision of a part or a drawing. You can choose
how to relate it, including adding it as the item that contains the problem being investigated or
as the solution.
Requirements Management
Requirements Management is enhanced to provide the following benefits:
• Parameters and requirements now appear in a single view, allowing you to view them while
scrolling through the document.
• The Tracelink Matrix provides new capabilities, such as creating tracelinks between browser
windows, printing and saving the tracelink matrix as a sharable PDF, and several interface
improvements.
• It is now possible to determine the quality and correctness of a requirement while authoring or
editing, with the new partnership with The Reuse Company. You can also generate a report
showing correctness across an entire specification.
• You can view and print the revision history of a specification and can generate a table of contents
for improved viewing.
• Requirement content can now be exported in the ReqIF format for moving content from other
requirement databases into Teamcenter. You can also export requirements data to ReqIF format
and import it into other systems such as Doors and Polarion.
• There are several improvements related to Microsoft Word in Requirements: headers and
footers can be included, parsing rules can be saved when importing a document, and paragraph
numbers are now preserved during import from Word.
• You can compare requirements and requirement baselines that are authored in Microsoft Word.
• You can export requirements content to Microsoft Word in read-only or edit mode (without
comments), then make changes to the document, and re-import it to Active Workspace.
The intermediate state of the Test EBOM creation process is retained if the user logs out
and then subsequently logs in again. This enhancement is added because the process of
deciding which BOM elements need to be copied or removed from the Test EBOM may
take significant time.
• You can export and import parameter definitions and values for editing in an external application.
You can also use this capability to share parameter definitions and values across domains.
o The reduction in width of the left-hand structure panel allows additional property columns to
be displayed.
o The Target Type and Project Modeling Tool information is moved from the Add panel
to the Information panel.
• You can copy a reusable parameter from any location (for example, a product structure,
verification request, or study) and paste it on a target object as a reference or an object.
• You can also cut and delete parameters, depending on the parameter's in-context value. If the
parameter has an in-context value, it can be deleted but not cut. If the parameter does not have
an in-context value, it can be cut but not deleted.
• There is a new option on the Revise panel to open the new parameter revision in the same
location.
• The parameter's owning user and group are shown in the Parameters table.
• The name of the feature in Teamcenter Environment Manager (TEM) displayed when installing
the parameter management solution is changed from Measurable Attributes and Targets to
Parameter Management for both Teamcenter and Active Workspace.
MBSE Views
MBSE Views provides the following benefits:
• Recipe-like query gathers engineering artifacts and related data for cross-domain reports. For
example, you want all features and tests related to a particular variant of your system.
• External applications can view and modify selected information displayed by views. For example,
you can identify issues and write changes back to Teamcenter.
Product Configuration
Product Configuration
You now configure variants and apply configurations to a product from the Variant Configuration tab.
This interface is highly graphical and takes advantage of the full screen, simplifying the configuration
process. Additionally, you can get real-time feedback in the Summary panel.
From the Variant Configuration tab, you can:
• Open existing or define new configurations.
Note
In this release, Siemens Digital Industries Software recommends using the full-screen
configurator interface for interactive configuration while continuing to use the Configuration
panel for the application of saved variant rules.
