Export table data to Microsoft Excel

You can now export table data to Microsoft Excel and share this with users who may not have access
to Active Workspace.

• The tables can be rearranged prior to export.

• Columns that are not needed can be removed from the export.

Enhancements in downloading attachments

You can now copy a file download link by right-clicking an attachment and choosing Copy File
Download Link. This copies the link to the Teamcenter and OS clipboard. The attachment link can
then be shared with others or pasted into a browser window and downloaded.

Quick Access location

Quick Access is now located in the global navigation on the left side of the Active Workspace
browser window. This makes it easier to access the objects you have recently worked with, data
saved to the clipboard, and objects tagged as your favorites.

Visualization
Active Workspace and Lifecycle Visualization interoperability
Active Workspace Application Connect is a new generation of interoperability that supports interaction
between Active Workspace running in an external browser and other applications. In contrast
to the previous Hosted mode, Active Workspace Application Connect supports a broad set of
modern browsers, allowing a connected Active Workspace session to run in a browser tab operating
outside of the Teamcenter Lifecycle Visualization desktop application. This means users can take
advantage of the better performance of modern browsers while leveraging interoperability functions
like cross-selection.
When this feature is active, selecting the Open in Visualization command opens the current
assembly as a document in the Teamcenter Lifecycle Visualization desktop application. A new
browser tab opens that supports an interoperable connection to Lifecycle Visualization. As with the
previous hosted solution, this interoperability supports cross-selection between the Active Workspace
session in the new browser tab and the document opened in the Lifecycle Visualization desktop
application that shows the loaded assembly.
For information on Active Workspace and Lifecycle Visualization interoperability, see Teamcenter
Lifecycle Visualization help.
Usability updates
• To disable the viewer from loading the model when the model is opened, set the AWC_visAllOn
user preference to False. This is useful when loading large assemblies.

• The Section panel has been enhanced to allow greater flexibility when creating 3D sections,
including the ability to independently show Capping Faces or Cut Lines and to control the
display of cut lines.

• When viewing 3D data, users can choose whether their data is rendered on the client or on
the server. Client-side rendering is more responsive and typically used for smaller data sizes.
Server-side rendering is more suited for larger data sizes due to its higher data limit.

• System Administrators can use the AWC_3DViewerDisplayUnit preference to configure the

default display unit for the Active Workspace viewer. In addition, an end user can override the
default unit using the Displayed list in the Viewer Options panel.

Reduce information overload

Improved usability and configuration

Improved global search behavior

• Administrators can configure how relevance factors are applied to search results using several
new methods for boosting.

1-4 What's new in Active Workspace 4.3 whats_new

What's new in Active Workspace 4.3

• Administrators can improve performance by setting a maximum threshold count for returned
results. When a search is too broad and results would be time-consuming, limiting the count can
help the user refine their search to a more reasonable list.

• Display names for properties are now searchable. When enabled, users no longer have to know
the internal database name to return results. As display names can be localized, properties can
be searched in multiple languages.
If you set the global constant Awp0IndexLocalizedValues to true and re-index, the index picks
up the localized values. Awp0IndexLocalizedValues is set to false by default.

• External objects can now be included in Advanced search queries with a custom method.

Improved Filter panel behavior

Administrators can now improve user navigation and control of the Filter panel display, including:
• Configuring a filter category expansion limit to display the most commonly used filters.

• Configuring an optional search button instead of using a type-ahead response to improve

performance and visibility.

Selected filters now have better visibility using check boxes.

Enhanced indexing options

Datasets can now be indexed inline with their associated Item Revisions or subtypes, which means
search results can now return the Item Revision or subtype that contains the dataset.

Search server upgrades

Search servers for global search and shape search support is upgraded for this release:
• With this release of Active Workspace, you must upgrade to Indexing Engine (Solr) version 7.7.
You need to reindex your data to be compatible with the Solr upgrade.

• Active Workspace is now compatible with Geolus version 10.

Classification

Classify into a class suggested by Teamcenter artificial intelligence for classification

The artificial intelligence (AI) engine is trained on your data and predicts classes that may be suitable
for the object that you are classifying. If Geolus is configured, the suggested classes take shape
data of an associated JT file into account as well. Classification also suggests possible property
values by pre-populating the attributes from the closest matching classified object, helping with
property value population.

Index classification data faster with delta indexing

Indexing only classification data that has changed since the last round of indexing (delta indexing)
reduces the need for full Solr re-indexing in most cases.

Switch between units or enter data in units other than the base unit

Improvements in unit management provide you with more unit options when entering or viewing data.
For example, the class unit is metric but you can enter a weight in pound, and the value is converted
automatically to the required kilogram value.

Search for an object based on the properties of another object

Select an object and choose Search similar. This performs a search or allows you to widen the
scope of the search to find similar objects by changing the class hierarchy or property values from
the source object.

Reorganization of the classification installation and configuration documentation

Find the classification installation and configuration documentation in one location. The Classification
and Libraries Management One-stop Guide has been removed.

Resource Manager
You can easily examine resource structures in Teamcenter Active Workspace, including the way
components are assembled from the machine side to the workpiece side, by using the Diagram
or Diagram with Summary options.

yet, allowing you to remove them or change their placement.

• Use the properties panel to modify selected elements.

Decrease users' load time when working with large tables

Use the new capabilities of tables of dynamic compound properties (DCP) and column configuration
to be more consistent and help decrease your users' load time when working with large tables.
• Configure the source of an objectSet to retrieve different table data depending on the value
of a property of a related object using DCP.

• Configure the visibleWhen attribute for page and content XRT elements to respond to the value
of a property of a related object using DCP.

• Your users now have the benefits of column configuration on objectSet tables, even if you do
not configure it.

• Set individual columns of objectSet tables to be hidden by default, allowing faster table load
times for your users on large tables.

Use the Linux operating system for Active Workspace development

Several key enhancements help reduce your development time and hassle while increasing your
options.
• You can now use the Linux operating system for Active Workspace development.
See the hardware and software certifications for supported versions.

• Publish your local development site to a gateway file repository instead of deploying a WAR file.

• Helmet for NodeJS used in the Active Workspace gateway enables improved security to your
deployment.

• Use a JavaScript project editor to manage your development environment. This release of Active
Workspace ships with experimental support for VSCode from Microsoft.

Review migration to follow ES6 module system and WebPack

The continuous push to keep Active Workspace in modern web frameworks and provide a fully
declarative experience means frequently changing the underlying substance of the application. With
AngularJS being deprecated and RequireJS being unable to natively support ES6 module without a
loader, these technologies needed to be replaced.
The Active Workspace code has been migrated to follow the ECMA Script 6 (ES6) module system
and WebPack instead of using RequireJS. ES6 is natively supported by many modern browsers, and
it standardizes module syntax and semantics using built-in import and export statements. It makes it
easy to share code and use third party libraries using ES6.
Use ES6 standards when writing directives, controllers, unit tests, and services.
• If you developed your customizations using declarative definitions (view / view model) without
any glue code (JavaScript), there is no impact to you.

• If you used JavaScript, it will continue to work for now, but you will need make sure it is converted
to ES6 as soon as possible.
Use the provided scripts to aid you in your conversion.

• Some uses of third-party libraries will need to be adjusted for use with WebPack.

Caution
• RequireJS and related build scripts will eventually be removed in the upcoming
releases. This means if you have any direct references to requireJS in your
bootstrap.json or JS customizations, you may need to remove them in the future before
building the customization. For further information, please contact GTAC.

• If you have any custom elements (angularJS directives) in your customization, you
may have to do some refactoring to those directives in the future releases. For further
information, please contact GTAC.

Designing Workflows

• Create a workflow template, either new or based on an existing template.

• Add tasks to a workflow template.

• Provide visual cues for process and task templates as well as for online and offline templates.

• Import and export process templates, including those created in the Teamcenter rich client.

• Create custom workflow templates and update template properties using workflow handlers. Hints
are provided for the workflow handler arguments and their respective values to help users identify
mandatory and optional parameters. These hints can avoid runtime errors because validation is
performed during creation. A JSON file must be created for each handler to enable this feature.

You can add a custom task template to the Workflow Designer Task Palette using the following steps:

Caution
This is a required process in addition to Creating custom templates in the rich client.

• If you have a custom task template, add it to the new Workflow Designer Task Palette panel by

Integrated product definition

Designs and Structure Management

View attribute details for a structure occurrence

Opening each structure occurrence to view attribute details can be time consuming. In Active
Workspace 4.3, you can use icons in table columns to quickly view the occurrence attributes.
When a structure is loaded in the Table or Tree view, an icon in the attribute column indicates the
presence of the attribute for the structure occurrence. You can now view the attribute details by
hovering over the icons.
This is available for the following occurrence attributes:
• Element effectivity

• Overrides

• Variant condition

• Substitute

• Global alternate

Set and view structure arrangement

Arrangements are used by designers to specify alternative positions for one or more components in
the assembly and to store those alternatives with the assembly. For example, a car door assembly
may have different arrangements when the door is open and when it is closed.
You can now set and view these structure arrangements.
Arrangements are defined for an assembly in NX. You can only view the arrangements in Active
Workspace.

Set in-context overrides

You can now edit the properties of an occurrence in the context of a selected higher-level assembly.
This is useful when a component or subassembly is reused in another assembly. Some information
that is valid for the original assembly might have to be overridden to adapt it to fit the context of the
new assembly. This is managed by defining the component properties in the context of the assembly
in which the component is used.

Review active or closed changes for a structure

In Active Workspace, you can now track changes (additions, modifications, replacements, revisions,
or deletions) to the assemblies. The active changes for a structure are displayed by default. To review
the closed changes, you can use the Show Redlines command.

Add a substitute for a part in the structure in markup mode

Markup mode allows you to review and analyze changes without actually modifying the structure.

whats_new What's new in Active Workspace 4.3 1-13

Chapter
Chapter 1: 1: What's
What's new
new in in Active
Active Workspace
Workspace 4.3 4.3

You can now add a substitute for a part in the structure in markup mode. In this mode, the proposed
change to a structure is highlighted in a different color or using a strikethrough, until it is committed
to the database.

Configure and view structure based on view types

The view type is an attribute of a BOM view revision that indicates its purpose, for example, design
or manufacturing. It allows you to distinguish one BOM view revision from another in the same
item revision.
You can now configure the structure by selecting one of the available view types.
Only administrators can add a new view type. In Active Workspace, you can only configure a
structure with an existing view type. You cannot create a new view type.

View and modify classic variant rules

Variants allow you to create options (for example, color) and allowed values of those options (for
example, red and blue ) and associate them with an item revision. You then define a variant condition
(for example, only load IF option color = value red is specified in the variant rule) on those
occurrences that are subject to variant rules.
In Active Workspace, you can now perform the following tasks with classic variant rules:
• View variant rule details

• Update variant rules

• Save a modified variant rule as new

View and modify revision rule clauses

Structure changes such as addition or removal of components, relationships to other products or
assemblies, and changes to properties may necessitate a new revision. Revision rules are applied to
ensure that you are working with the correct revisions of the product structure.
In Active Workspace, you can now:
• View revision rule clauses

• Modify a revision rule

• Configure structures with modified revision rules

Configure a structure with a closure rule for expansion

You can now configure a non-indexed structure with a closure rule to apply an expansion or filtering
logic to the structure. You cannot create or edit closure rules. You can use only static closure rules

Simulation Process Management

These enhancements are related to product structures and model structures along with several
usability and productivity improvements particularly related to preconfigured simulation tools. Use the
following enhancements to accomplish your tasks more easily and efficiently.
• Simplified user interface for the simulation analyst
You can now use the Analyst Workspace to access the simplified home page, tabs, table
columns, commands, and actions. This is the default workspace for the simulation analyst role.

• Reorganize the product structure to make it suitable for simulation analysis

You can now create CAE Product Collector revision objects in Teamcenter to reorganize the
product structure and to make it suitable for simulation analysis. You can create a collector
structure by:

o Creating a flat structure by copying only the leaf nodes and by ignoring all the intermediate
subassembly levels created by the designers.

o Organizing the components differently under different subcollectors in a manner that is more
efficient for simulation analysis.

1-18 What's new in Active Workspace 4.3 whats_new

o Choosing desired parts or subassemblies from more than one product structure.

• Extract KPI values automatically using a preconfigured simulation tool

You can now specify key performance indicator (KPI) values such as maximum stress, minimum
temperature, or maximum displacement automatically by using a preconfigured simulation tool.

• Generate a model structure with the mapping of JT files

You can now use the CFD domain option to generate a model structure from an existing product
structure with the mapping of JT files. This new option creates model structures and additionally
maps the JT files from the source structure to the output structure.

• Generate a geometry structure from an existing product structure or a product collector structure
You can now use the CAEGA domain option to generate a geometry structure from an existing
product structure or a product collector that contains the CAD assemblies.

• Efficient handling of large simulation files during tool launch

You can now configure the user staging location to store all the input and output files for the Local
Launch and Server Launch options. In addition, a shared staging location can be configured
at the site, group, and user level. This is done to avoid exporting the same result files across
simulation tools by multiple users. These result files can be easily shared across multiple users.

• Simplified tracking of results on the operating system

In some cases, instead of storing large result files in the database, organizations prefer storing
the generated result files on shared network folders. You can now run predefined simulation tools
with web link definitions for the automatic creation of URL links to files on the operating system.

• Support for file upload or URL create conflict options and file download options during tool launch
While launching a preconfigured simulation tool, you can now specify file upload or URL create
conflict options by selecting the Prompt User or Auto-process options.

Teamcenter Quality

Advanced Product Quality Planning

RYG ratings for indicating status of programs, projects, events, checklists, and questions
The red, yellow, green (RYG) ratings are used at the program, project, subproject, event, checklist,
and question levels to indicate the status of the various criteria. The system uses preferences to
evaluate RYG ratings and these are governed by some default rules. Teamcenter administrators can
now edit preferences to control the RYG rating behavior used at the program, project, subproject,
event, checklist, and question levels.

• Add a statistical process control check to an Inspection Definition

Statistical Process Control (SPC) statistics and charts are used to measure and control the
quality of your manufacturing processes. An SPC check defines how SPC statistics and charts
can be used on the shop floor for a specific Inspection Definition. When you add an SPC
check, you can specify the type of Quality Characteristic, industry rules, type of chart, and the
size of the subgroup.

• Update to the latest version of a Quality Characteristic in an Inspection Definition

When a new version of a Quality Characteristic is available, the new and existing versions are
displayed in the Characteristic tab of the Inspection Definition. You can compare the values
and choose to update to the latest version.

• Compare the Quality Characteristics

You can now compare the Quality Characteristics in a Characteristic Group.

• Create a new version of a Quality Characteristic

You can create a new version of a Quality Characteristic by clicking Edit > Start Edit from
the Primary toolbar.

Problem Solving

Use the following enhancements to accomplish tasks more easily and efficiently.

• Perform a root cause analysis by using the Ishikawa methodology

An Ishikawa diagram is a graphical tool that helps your team to brainstorm and identify the
causes and the categories of causes that result in the problem. The categories help the team
to ensure that all causes in a particular category are recorded. If a category has few causes,
the team can focus their brainstorming on that category to capture any missing causes. After
identifying all the causes and listing them in the correct categories, you can analyze the diagram
to mark the root cause of the problem.
An Ishikawa diagram is also called a cause-and-effect diagram or a fishbone diagram because it
represents the causes and their effect in a fishbone-like pattern.
You can use the following categories to group your causes:

o Man: List the causes related to the people involved in the problem.

o Machine: List the causes related to the equipment involved in the problem.

o Method: List the causes related to the methods and procedures involved in the problem.

o Material: List the causes related to the raw materials and parts involved in the problem.

o Measurement: List the causes resulting from measurement-related problems.

o Mother Earth: List the causes resulting from environment-related problems.

Note
You can also add other categories, apart from the above 6Ms as per your requirements,
such as Product, Price, Supplier, and so on.

• Add attachments to a CAPA

Starting this release, you can attach different types of files to an issue or CAPA to aid in its
investigation. You can also attach any type of Teamcenter object that is in the Teamcenter
database. For example, you can attach an item revision of a part or a drawing. You can choose
how to relate it, including adding it as the item that contains the problem being investigated or
as the solution.

Model based systems engineering

Requirements Management
Requirements Management is enhanced to provide the following benefits:
• Parameters and requirements now appear in a single view, allowing you to view them while
scrolling through the document.

• The Tracelink Matrix provides new capabilities, such as creating tracelinks between browser
windows, printing and saving the tracelink matrix as a sharable PDF, and several interface
improvements.

• It is now possible to determine the quality and correctness of a requirement while authoring or
editing, with the new partnership with The Reuse Company. You can also generate a report
showing correctness across an entire specification.

• You can view and print the revision history of a specification and can generate a table of contents
for improved viewing.

• Requirement content can now be exported in the ReqIF format for moving content from other
requirement databases into Teamcenter. You can also export requirements data to ReqIF format
and import it into other systems such as Doors and Polarion.

• There are several improvements related to Microsoft Word in Requirements: headers and
footers can be included, parsing rules can be saved when importing a document, and paragraph
numbers are now preserved during import from Word.

• You can compare requirements and requirement baselines that are authored in Microsoft Word.

• You can export requirements content to Microsoft Word in read-only or edit mode (without
comments), then make changes to the document, and re-import it to Active Workspace.

Verification planning and execution

The following enhancements are made to the Design Validation Planning and Reporting (DPV&R)
feature included with Verification Management:
• Installation of components of the Automotive and Aerospace Catalyst for Verification Management
is no longer required.
All processes provided in the catalyst are fully supported with DVP&R and the BOM management
feature.

• Test EBOM creation improvements

o Duplicate occurrence support
When using the interactive duplication feature in BOM management to create the Test EBOM
from the CAD EBOM, the process now recognizes the presence of duplicate occurrences of
the same part and gives them unique IDs in the Test EBOM.

o Work in process support

1-22 What's new in Active Workspace 4.3 whats_new

What's new in Active Workspace 4.3

The intermediate state of the Test EBOM creation process is retained if the user logs out
and then subsequently logs in again. This enhancement is added because the process of
deciding which BOM elements need to be copied or removed from the Test EBOM may
take significant time.

o Change indication support

If the CAD changes after the Test EBOM is created, the BOM comparison process identifies
the changes. Use the Sync ID option to lock the mapping between the CAD EBOM and Test
EBOM once the first Test EBOM is created. After that, changes to occurrences in the source
CAD BOM are identified by the BOM compare.

• Verification request native reporting and charting

Pass/Fail values for requirements and parameters are color-coded red and green respectively for
easy status identification.
Each table for requirements and parameters provides a corresponding chart that shows the
Pass/Fail status. This chart actively filters the table by items according to the result.

• Support for parameter calibration studies in verification requests

You can send a parameter project to a calibration team in a verification request. This mode
of verification request does not use the requirements or system BOM; instead, it takes the
parameters in the parameter project and allows the analysis and results to be managed directly
in the verification request.

• Explicit support for test cases

In the 4.2 release, many requirement subclasses useful for verification management were added,
for example, verification requirements and test conditions, The 4.3 release adds a test case
object, used when describing the high-level reasoning and strategy of how to perform the test. It
typically also references the scenarios for testing, including test procedures and parameters.

Managing global parameters

The management of global parameters has been enhanced as follows:
• You can compare parameter values from different configurations and baselines to identify
differences.

• You can export and import parameter definitions and values for editing in an external application.
You can also use this capability to share parameter definitions and values across domains.

• User interface improvements increase productivity:

o The addition of filters to each column in the Parameters table allows the user to view only the
information they require.

o The reduction in width of the left-hand structure panel allows additional property columns to
be displayed.

o The Target Type and Project Modeling Tool information is moved from the Add panel
to the Information panel.

• You can copy a reusable parameter from any location (for example, a product structure,
verification request, or study) and paste it on a target object as a reference or an object.

• You can also cut and delete parameters, depending on the parameter's in-context value. If the
parameter has an in-context value, it can be deleted but not cut. If the parameter does not have
an in-context value, it can be cut but not deleted.

• There is a new option on the Revise panel to open the new parameter revision in the same
location.

• The parameter's owning user and group are shown in the Parameters table.

• The name of the feature in Teamcenter Environment Manager (TEM) displayed when installing
the parameter management solution is changed from Measurable Attributes and Targets to
Parameter Management for both Teamcenter and Active Workspace.

MBSE Views
MBSE Views provides the following benefits:
• Recipe-like query gathers engineering artifacts and related data for cross-domain reports. For
example, you want all features and tests related to a particular variant of your system.

• External applications can view and modify selected information displayed by views. For example,
you can identify issues and write changes back to Teamcenter.

Product Configuration

Product Configuration
You now configure variants and apply configurations to a product from the Variant Configuration tab.
This interface is highly graphical and takes advantage of the full screen, simplifying the configuration
process. Additionally, you can get real-time feedback in the Summary panel.
From the Variant Configuration tab, you can:
• Open existing or define new configurations.

• Save your configurations.

• Manually configure and then validate your configurations.

• Run guided configurations.

• View and configure packages.
