Physical Fitness Vocabulary Study Guide

Body Composition:This desrcibes the proportions of what you're


made of.(fat,water,muscle bone, etc)
Aerobic:Denoting exercise that improves or is intended to improve
the efficiency of the body's cardiovascular system in absorbing and
transporting oxygen
Calorie:A calorie is the amount of heat needed to raise the
temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celsius. Calories in
food provide energy in the form of heat so that our bodies can
function.
Cardiovascular Endurance:Cardiorespiratory endurance is the level at
which your heart, lungs, and muscles work together when you're
exercising for an extended period of time. This shows how efficiently
your cardiorespiratory system functions, and is an indicator of how
physically fit and healthy you are.
Target Heart Rate:A heart rate that is attained during aerobic exercise
and represents the minimum level of exertion at which cardiovascular
fitness can increase for an individual in a given age group.
Flexibility:The quality of bending easily without breaking
Muscular Strength:Muscular strength refers to the amount of force a
muscle can produce with a single maximal effort
Wellness:Wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits on a daily
basis to attain better physical and mental health outcomes
Maximum Heart Rate:Maximum heart rate is the maximum number
of beats made by your heart in 1 minute of effort
Team Sports:A team sport includes any sport where individuals are
organized into opposing teams which compete to win
Defense:(in sports) the action or role of defending one's goal against
the opposition
Muscular Endurance:Muscular endurance refers to the ability of a
given muscle to exert force, consistently and repetitively, over a
period of time.
Sportsmanship:Fair and generous behavior or treatment of others,
especially in a sports contest
Strategy:A plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or
overall aim
Anaerobic:Relating to or denoting exercise that does not improve the
efficiency of the body's cardiovascular system in absorbing and
transporting oxygen
Competition:The person or people with whom one is competing,
especially in a commercial or sporting arena; the opposition
Offense:(in sports) the team or players who are attempting to score or
advance the ball
Exercise:Activity requiring physical effort, carried out to sustain or
improve health and fitness.
Overtraining:Train or cause to train too hard or for too long
Individual Sports:An individual sport is a sport in which participants
compete as individuals.
