Project Summary
Education Policies for Global Development (GLOBED) is a two-year European master’s degree that specialises in
the complex relationship between education policy and international development. It aims to provide students with
up to date knowledge to address the main challenges that education systems face, and to identify the most
suitable policies through which education can contribute to human, social and economic development. Seven
successful editions offer significant evidence that GLOBED has become a highly distinguished international
Master's degree in the field of global studies, education policy and development, with an exponentially increasing
demand from low- and middle-income countries.
Developed by four HEIs (UAB, UoG, UB, and UCY), and supported by almost 50 associate partners (including
international organisations, aid agencies and INGOs), the next GLOBED cycle includes important innovations: 1)
partnerships: new special associate partners will offer course electives to enable students’ research to be
appropriately tailored to their regional context; 2) scope: we will offer 35 places per year to intensify our impact
and address increasing demand; 3) structure: new third learning pathway specialized in inclusive education; and
4) contents: course content update to ensure our students learn about new developments (policy innovations,
new global cooperation practices and changing forms of educational delivery) and are equipped with the most
urgently needed skills to carry out advanced, rigorous and socially meaningful work.
These innovations respond to learning and deliberation processes within the consortium and to associated
partners’ feedback. By taking these inputs into account, we do not only make sure that the programme design
adapts to the constantly evolving nature of global education policy, but also that GLOBED continues playing a
prominent role in the professional development of our field.
