The safety information in the customer's Operator Manual must be observed for all activ‐
ities on the system.
1.2 Notes
All images, etc. are examples only, and may differ based on the model or configuration.
n Self-adjustment:
While the display is - 0 -, see the illus‐
tration, the measurement instrument
must be on a mat (darkening of the
measurement input)!
n Switch on by pressing the On/Off but‐ Fig. 3: SMFit Spot Luminance Meter 1
ton, see Pos. 1.
n When the self-adjustment is finished,
a measurement value and the mode
are displayed, see Pos. 3.
n The test instrument must be set to di‐
rect measurement (mode "D") for the
monitor adjustment.
Set the mode, see Pos. 3, by briefly
pressing the On/Off switch, see Pos.
1.
A = Remote measurement (DIN)
D = Direct measurement (adjustment)
n The current measurement value can
be saved by pressing the "run stop"
(1) On/Off switch <=> toggle switch
button, see Pos. 2 (so that it can be (2) Switch to hold measurement value
read more easily). Pressing the button (3) Mode indicator
again causes the currently measured (4) Measurement value
value to be displayed again.
1.4.1.2 Transmission Path: DSC 5608-DC/DSC 6012-DC Large Display <--> Multi Display Man‐
ager
Each dual-line DVI-D output is converted by a converter and is led to the display via two
network cables.
A total of 4 network cables are required for "Video transfer".
Two network cables are led to a converter at the display input; this converts the transfer‐
red signals again to DVI-D signals
Depending on the system software and / or the ordered option, a bypass module is in the
transmission path and it is possible that a splitter/downscaler is installed.
Bypass module:
Beginning with system software VC21x, a separate bypass display is not included in the
shipment; instead, a bypass module is installed in the LDC container. In the bypass mode,
the bypass module receives the analog bypass signal from the RTC; this is overlaid as an
overlay to the Large Display signa through the bypass box at the top left and bottom
right.
Splitter / Downscaler:
With system software VC14x, the splitter / downscaler can be used only as a downscaler;
the software can still manage 2 Large Displays. The downscaler sends out a full HD
(1920x1080) signal to a DVI-D socket.
Beginning with system softwarae VC21x, two Large Displays and/or the downscaler can
be used.
A zero cross power distribution (0 continuity switches, supply voltage is switched in 0 op‐
eration) with x mains sockets for supply from MDM / converter / OTVs.
*1
New graphics cards are used that require additional hardware to convert the display
port to DVI-D.
Bypass box:
Fig. 4: Bypass module installation location
(1) Depending on the system cabling, copper DVI-D cables can also be connected here.
Beginning with system SW VC21, the bypass function no longer takes place using an
additional 19" B/W monitor (as a rule, this was installed on the back of the Large Dis‐
play).
The bypass image (from the RTC) is displayed as an overlay to the original image via
the bypass box (in the LD Container) at the top left and bottom right on the Large Dis‐
play.
Fig. 5: Bypass display on LD system SW VC20 and higher
Downscaler / Splitter
Fig. 6: Splitter / Downscaler installation location
WIth use of the MDM, Part Number 10502048 or 10501973 or 10501972, a DP top
DVI-D converter is required (2 of them, one for each DP output).
1.4.3 Adjustments
All adjustments/settings are performed in the Artis zee system under Local Service.
Adjustment of the display is performed using the SMFit test meter (connected to the dis‐
play) under the Local Service.
Beginning with system SW VC21B / VD10D / VD11, see ( VC21 / VD10 / VD11 System
SW: System Configuration. / Page 16).
Beginning with system SW VC21x, a bypass box is always included in the shipment (new
shipments, beginning with VC21x); for upgrades from VC14x, a bypass box is not config‐
ured.
A downscaler / splitter is an option that can be ordered; depending on the order / up‐
grade, a downscaler / splitter is / can be configured.
Prerequisite for correct configuration is also correct (same) cabling of the components in
the LDC.
For this, see ( Fig. 7 Page 13).
2. Configuration is performed under: Service UI > Configuration > Artis Components >
MDM (Large Display) > Service, see ( 1/Fig. 11 Page 17).
Fig. 11: Starting Service

3. Select the System Configuration function in the “Service” tab card, see
( 3/Fig. 12 Page 18).
Fig. 12: Service tab card
4. All system dependencies (e.g. bypass box and/or splitter) are configured under System
Configuration, see ( 3/Fig. 12 Page 18).
Important: Incorrect system configuration will cause "incorrect" error entries.

In a malfunction situation, only the “Default MDM Display ...” button may be selected
to reset to the values when shipped, see ( 1/Fig. 25 Page 25), start with OK, see
( 3/Fig. 25 Page 25).
The question of whether a reset is really to be performed should be answered with
“Yes”.
After the reset, the configuration must be downloaded again using Service UI > Con‐
figuration > Artis Components > MDM(Large Display) > Abort.

The document can be found on the CB-Doc under Installation > Retrofit of Options > For
Large Display > Installation and Startup > Connecting/Configuration an additional Video
Input.
n The changes that can be performed to the ECC display or to the layout as well as the
buttons or the environmental conditions (e.g. standby) are listed below.
n Abort Button under MDM (Large Display):
All changes that were performed under Input Setup/Layout Editor or Button Assign‐
ment and that have not yet been saved (with Save under Button Assignment) can be
rejected by selecting "Abort".
If the Abort button is pressed, the MDM reboots and the configuration data saved on
the IVS are loaded. This function is also used in a replacement part situation to load
the original configuration.
Possible changes:
n At the ECC a maximum of 12 layouts are displayed in 3 levels.
The shift / replacement of layouts, e.g. replacing the 3rd place with 5th place or com‐
pletely removing layouts and replacing them with a new layout consisting of existing
(predefined) ones, is described below:
( Button Assignment / Page 32).
n Change the name of a layout (visible on the ECC, e.g. Neuro1) to “another” name (e.g.
Dr. Xxxx or ....), is described below:
( Changing Layout Names / Page 39).
n Change a layout.
Selected inputs are displayed in defined values at the display. The position / value of
these inputs to be changed (only for this one layout) and possibly also to be saved
with a new name, is described below:
( Changing the Layout (display/composition, e.g. size/location of an in‐
put) / Page 41).
n Change the screen name (name of the input).
Do not change Life/Assist/Reference/Sensis. If necessary, only with additional inputs.
( Changing the Display of an Input / Page 46).
n Perform the adaptations for the power save mode:
( Power Save Mode / Page 55).

The name of a button can be changed directly under Button Assignment, e.g. from De‐
fault xx to Professor xxxx.
The listing of all currently available layouts can be found here, see ( 4/Fig. 32 Page 33)
A maximum of 12 can be displayed on the ECC, see ( 5, 6, 7/Fig. 32 Page 33).
All 12 assignable buttons are visible; when assigned, the layout name is highlighted, see.
1. Select the layout to be removed with the mouse, hold the left mouse key pressed and
pull the layout out of the area to the right and then release the mouse button.
The name of the layout (display location on the ECC) changes to "Button 1 -12"
(depending on the position of the button).
The original layout name is visible in the selection under “Layout Pool”, see
( 4/Fig. 32 Page 33).
2. Drag the layout into the particular ECC area with the mouse and then release the but‐
ton.
The new layout appears at the desired location.
3. Select Save, see ( 2/Fig. 32 Page 33).
4. Select > OK.
Depending on the software, an MDM reset is performed if an Artis zee Cockpit is connec‐
ted; a reset of the computer is also performed on it.
If this is the case and configuration is performed on the WP of the Artis zee Cockpit mon‐
itor, wait for the restart and then reactivate the WP input (double-click). Afterwards, you
can continue to work "normally".

The "new" layout must be visible and selectable at the defined location (name
and input division).
This layout must be displayed on the monitor as defined when selected.
4
3
n Beginning with VD10D, there is a risk of "laying" inputs over one another in the Lay‐
out Editor. This can be seen on the LD with “Overlay"; this is not monitored by the SW
and it must be ensured manually that it does not happen, see
( 1/Fig. 42 Page 42).
Changing the size of an Input in the cache or directly from the layout:
11
10
5 4 6 7 8
The system allows only changes that are also possible in the layout. Any size / position
that cannot be displayed in this layout, cannot be selected; overlaps are also automati‐
cally prevented.
If a change is to be made by directly entering a number, after entering the number, the
mouse must be clicked in the window outside of the numeral entry to accept the value.
If a change is to be made using the arrow keys (stepwise change), make sure that you do
not press an arrow key longer than approx. 1 sec. If the selection is longer, the connec‐
tion can be interrupted and all steps will have to be worked through again individually.
Possibility:
When the "Shift key and the left mouse button" are pressed on the particular arrow key,
the value is changed to 10 digits; the size may not be changed this way continuously,
but step by step. By doing this, the IE will not crash.
If the maximum magnification is reached (normally 2x the input size), the message
"overflow type 1" appears.
Beginning with system software VD11, specification of which input must be present
in which layout must already be met in the Layout Editor.
- with “ < Save Layout “ the changed layout is saved under the same name, only
with the performed change.
- Or save with a new layout name with “< Save Layout as ...“, see
( 7/Fig. 43 Page 43).
When this is done, the "original" layout will be kept and can be used.
- With “ < Save as default Layout “ the layout is saved as the default layout, mean‐
ing that it is the first selectable layout which all X-ray image inputs must display.
This saving option is only selected if it is absolutely necessary.
- With " Delete ", the currently selected layout is deleted.
9. Following the change, the chapter ( Button Assignment / Page 32) must be per‐
formed completely.
This is necessary so that the changes are transferred to the ECC.
n The (every) input is assigned to the currently selected layout (visible on the display).
This means that a change under Input Setup has a direct effect on this layout!
If an input should/must be changed in any way, e.g. the name, this can only be done
as follows:
Take the input to be hanged from all layouts used in the Layout Editor, make
the change under Input Setup, reinsert the input into all layouts used under
Layout Editor.
n Beginning with system SW VD10x, rules must be observed with the use of IVUS un‐
der Input Setup as well as with the layout assignment (IVUS layout); for this, see
( IVUS Configuration / Page 89).
n The "Voice Control" function takes on special significance for configuration; for this,
see ( Configuring Voice Control / Page 97).
n Beginning with system SW VC21x, an input with Screen 2 can be displayed in the
same layout with a different size. Example: Assist input is displayed completely
"small" and the Assist is also displayed "larger" in the same layout in the data area
(cropping).
1

a) Open Input Setup: Artis Components > MDM (Large Display) > Input Setup.
b) Select the input to be changed, see ( 1/Fig. 44 Page 47) as an example.
c) Open the drop-down list, see ( 2/Fig. 44 Page 47).
d) Change options:
- The new name is accepted by selecting "Name".
- A "separate" name can also be assigned:
"Click" in the name box with the mouse and write the new name in the "Screen
Name" box, see ( 2/Fig. 44 Page 47).
Accept the change with > Apply.
C 2.
Do not change the following listed parameters!
If a change is made, these inputs are deleted from the layouts in which they
are used. All layouts must be checked and, if needed, corrected again.
- Seg. header enabled
- Border enabled
- Border with
- Size
- Crop:
3. The chapter ( Button Assignment / Page 32) must be performed after the change.
This is necessary so that the changes are transferred to the ECC.
n The (every) input is assigned to the currently selected layout (visible on the display).
This means that a change under Input Setup has a direct effect on this layout!
If an input is to be/must be changed in any way, e.g. the name, this can only be done
as follows:
Take the input to be changed from all layouts used in the Layout Editor, make
the change under Input Setup, reinsert the input into all layouts used under
Layout Editor.

a) Open Input Setup: Artis Components > MDM (Large Display) > Input Setup.
b) Select the input to be changed, see ( 1/Fig. 45 Page 49) as an example.
c) Open the drop-down list, see ( 2/Fig. 45 Page 49).
d) Change options:
- Inputs: Live (A/B) and Assist (A/B) and if present Workplace (A) and IVUS, must
be accepted with the name from the drop-down list, because they are moni‐
tored by the SW.
- However an alias name (visible name in the segment header) can also be as‐
signed under Screen Alias for these inputs, see ( 3/Fig. 45 Page 49). This alias
name is then the visible name in the segment header; the screen name is used
internally for SW monitoring.
If an Artis zee Cockpit is configured, pay attention to name conformity to avoid mis‐
understandings!
2. For Border Color or Color of the Segment Header, see ( 4/Fig. 45 Page 49):
A color selection is opened by double-clicking on the color display; the color of the
segment header can be changed by selecting a color.
The color of the plane assignment, e.g. Live (A/B), Assist (A/B), should not be changed; if
this is done, misunderstanding can occur. If an Artis zee Cockpit is confiugred, the colors
of the inputs, which are also displayed on the Artis zee Cockpit, should not be changed.
Reason: Changing the color of the screen header on the Artis zee Cockpit is not possible.
C 3.
Do not change the following listed parameters!
If a change is made, these inputs are deleted from the layouts in which they
are used. All layouts must be checked and, if needed, corrected again.

ration. / Page 16)
3. Note: A change of the configuration requires saving under Button Assignment >
Save .... prior to exiting the MDM configuration.
The switch is set when it is shipped. If the bypass change functions, no check needs to
be performed.
If the configuration is incorrect, the bypass module does not switch into the bypass
mode.

During the SMFit function, open the door to the examination room and leave it open; in
this way, Door Open is displayed and the display does not move. It is possible to work
with SMFit.
Biplane system:
With a biplane system, the network connector on the RTC must be unplugged. This way,
no messages will be displayed on the LD. Unfortunately, opening the door is not suffi‐
cient with biplane. IMPORTANT: after completing SMFit, reconnect the network connec‐
tor and check to ensure that a message is displayed on the LD.
n Beginning with system SW VC21x, two Large Displays can be connected using a
downscaler/splitter.
When making display adjustments, it is absolutely necessary to ensure that the cor‐
rect display is selected.
To check which display is active or how to make the change, see the following de‐
n
scription.
If the remeasurement tolerances (in the subsequent test) are met, an adjustment
does not need to be performed.
n If a "protective glass" (additional Plexiglas panel) is in use, it has to be removed be‐
fore a measurement or adjustment.
n Follow the information regarding service software restrictions under ( syngo service
software / Page 9).

see ( 1, 2/Fig. 60 Page 62).
11. Use the SMFit measuring instrument to measure the black value (0% white field) (cen‐
ter of LD image).
If the previously noted value (LumMin) was entered as 0.45cd/m²:
A value of 0.45 cd/m², +/- 0.15 cd/m² must be measurable.
If the previously noted value (LumMin) was entered asxx cd/m² natural (of
importance here is "natural"):
A value of =/< 0.5 cd/m² (0.0 - 0.5cd/m²) must be measurable.
12. Start the “ RGB Color” test image, see ( 1/Fig. 62 Page 64).
13. The colors must be played back correctly on the LD, see ( Fig. 63 Page 64).
14. Using > Logout , exit the SMFit (Large Display) menu, see ( 1/Fig. 64 Page 65).

The recognition test described below (2%/98% field) is valid only then or the fields must
then be recognizable only if the adjustment was made according to the DICOM LUT.
If the display was readjusted to a Gamma during service because of IQ or for other rea‐
sons, depending on the Gamma, recognition can no longer be ensured!

The 2% and the 98% Siemens logo must
be visible on the Live monitor display on
the LD (just visible), see Pos. 1 and Pos.
2.
If the logos are not visible, perform or re‐
peat the adjustment.
IMPORTANT:
If the Gamma model was changed to a
Gamma 3.3, see ( 7/Fig. 58 Page 61),
the 2% step can no longer be discerned. 4
n Beginning with system SW VC21, two Large Displays can be connected using a down‐
scaler/splitter.
When making display adjustments, it is absolutely necessary to ensure that the cor‐
rect display is selected.
For this, see ( Check / Page 58).
n If connection problems occur, a display is not detected or the connected SMFit test
meter is not detected, perform an auto detection as described in ( Auto Detec‐
n
tion / Page 101) in such a case.
To start the calibration, the display must be connected to line power for at least 20
minutes. If this time limit is not reached, an error message appears; the request can
be repeated with Retry; see ( 2/Fig. 68 Page 67).
n Attention: The power save mode or no video timing on the display will cause a re‐
start of the timer (20 minutes).
The power save mode (if active) can be prevented by creating a patient.
n If problems occur during the measuring sequence, e.g., SMFit no longer reacts or re‐
acts incorrectly, reset the measurement device (using the on/off button).

LC (DIN) means:
Check mark set:
The LD meets DIN6868-57 (Class B) regarding brightness. This can shorten the life of
the control reserve of the backlight. However, this is very slight under normal condi‐
tions.
Check mark not set:
The LD meets DIN6868-57 (Class B) regarding brightness. It can still meet DIN..., but
this is not measured/adjusted; the "normal" panel curve is used.
c) Change the default selection (33) to 65 under Number of gray levels.... (select/
change with the left mouse button), see ( 6/Fig. 71 Page 70).
The Gamma model selected under "Enabled" is the active one. If no other is selected, on‐
ly this one is adjusted, which under normal circumstances is sufficient; the display is al‐
ways set to "only" one Gamma model.

Auto Adjust starts, see ( Fig. 75 Page 72).
Note: The adjustment takes a long time; during this time, the test meter may not be
moved (same location on the LD), the brightness of the monitor changes continuously
during the adjustment.
Fig. 74: Aligning the SMFit on the LD Fig. 75: Start of Auto Adjustment
8. The Auto adjust is completed once the "( Fig. 77 Page 73)" image is displayed on
the "input monitor" (WP) or once the image (10 cm x 10 cm white) from before the
Auto adjust is displayed again on the LD monitor.
If the Auto adjust takes only a brief time and the subsequent error is displayed (if two
Large Displays are connected), probably Display 1 is selected (blinks when selected),
but the test meter is connected to Display 2 or vice versa, check to ensure that the
display to be adjusted is active and restart the adjustment.

If the Large Display is defined as a diagnostic monitor, new "reference values" must be
defined after completing adjustment.
n Beginning with system SW VC21x, two Large Displays can be connected using a
downscaler/splitter.
When making display adjustments, it is absolutely necessary to ensure that the cor‐
rect display is selected.
To check which display is active or how to make the change, see ( Check / Page 58)
n The Large Display is shipped with the LUT (Gamma Model) DICOM14; however, this
may not represent the best image quality on site depending on the application.
The following describes the process for changing the display to different Gamma
LUTs. Three different Gammas have been installed; select the Gamma that provides
the best image quality based on the conditions on site.
n Deliveries beginning approx. March 2011 have been converted to the LUT change
described here (Gamma model).
For this conversion, "only" the new LUT has to be selected (Monitor Management >
LUT Selection), reconfiguration has been omitted.
Shipment:
LUT 1 => DICOM 14 (300 cd/m² <=> 0.45 cd/m²
LUT 2 => Gamma Model 2.7 (300 cd/m² <=>natural)
LUT 3 => Gamma Model 3.0 (300 cd/m² <=>natural)
LUT 4 => Gamma Model 3.3 (300 cd/m² <=>natural)
LUT 5 => CIE (300 cd/m² <=> 0.45 cd/m²

ment points) and ensures adherence to DIN.
The German DIN V 6868-57 standard (Assurance of Image Quality in radiographic-di‐
agnostic Operations) includes a test point regarding "Uniformity of Luminance in the
Image". This standard must be used for monitors that are used by the customer as
diagnostic monitors.
The standard is used in Germany and in Austria (status as of 2010) if the monitor is
defined as a diagnostic monitor).
The luminance uniformity is based on the 5 measurement points defined under DIN
6868-57.
See the following regarding procedure for subsequent measurements.
2. Connect the SMFit measuring instrument to the display (back) with the adapter cable,
see ( 2, 3/Fig. 89 Page 84), see ( 4/Fig. 89 Page 84).

5. Perform a save after completing the configuration in the Large Display, under:
Service UI > Configuration > Artis Components > MDM(Large Display) > Button
Assignment > Save
When saving the layout, “correctness” is monitored to determine whether all specified
inputs are present; in an error situation, the message ( Fig. 97 Page 91) is dis‐
played.
The layout must then be corrected and resaved until an error message is no longer
displayed following Save.
- Error message with system software VD10x:

Information about cleaning agents must be observed; if agents are used other than
those listed, the display surface can be irretrievably damaged.
Cleaning agents may not remain on the surface for an extended period.
If this is not observed, the warranty is invalidated.
Effective time:
If the maximum time between applying the cleaning / disinfectant liquid and removal
(e.g. by dry-wiping)
If the effective time is exceeded, damage to the surfaces can occur; with the panel, this
can be permanent damage.

Default Layout; if the default layout is "wrong", the system will not go out of the bypass
mode!
Default Layout
n The X-ray video channels must always be integrated into the default layout:
For Monoplane: Live; with biplane: Live A and Live B!
If an X-ray channel is missing in the default layout, the system will not go out
of the bypass mode.
n A layout becomes the default layout when the particular layout is saved with "Save as
default layout" under Layout Editor (this will then contain the ending "*").
n One layout (only one) must be saved as the "default layout".
The particular default layout is marked with a "*" and is automatically saved as the
first selectable layout (e.g. on the ECC); this cannot be changed; the default layout is
always the first layout.
With selection of another layout as the default layout, the allocation is automatically
switched to the new one.
