1.4 Technical Notes / Explanations

1.4.1 syngo service software

The Large Display service software is part of syngo service software. All adjustments / con‐
figurations / updates are performed here.

1.4.1.1 Multi Display Manager Inputs

Each MDM input is defined and set, including frames and names.
The buttons are defined that are provided to the customer as selection buttons (which in‐
put is displayed where / how on the display) via the ECC (12 buttons on 3 levels).

1.4.1.2 Transmission Path: DSC 5608-DC/DSC 6012-DC Large Display <--> Multi Display Man‐
ager
Each dual-line DVI-D output is converted by a converter and is led to the display via two
network cables.
A total of 4 network cables are required for "Video transfer".
Two network cables are led to a converter at the display input; this converts the transfer‐
red signals again to DVI-D signals
Depending on the system software and / or the ordered option, a bypass module is in the
transmission path and it is possible that a splitter/downscaler is installed.
Bypass module:
Beginning with system software VC21x, a separate bypass display is not included in the
shipment; instead, a bypass module is installed in the LDC container. In the bypass mode,
the bypass module receives the analog bypass signal from the RTC; this is overlaid as an
overlay to the Large Display signa through the bypass box at the top left and bottom
right.
Splitter / Downscaler:
With system software VC14x, the splitter / downscaler can be used only as a downscaler;
the software can still manage 2 Large Displays. The downscaler sends out a full HD
(1920x1080) signal to a DVI-D socket.
Beginning with system softwarae VC21x, two Large Displays and/or the downscaler can
be used.

1.4.1.3 LDC (Large Display Container)

The MDM is installed in the Container; all video cables are led into the Container, pro‐
cessed in the Multi-Display Manager and led to the display via 4 network cables.
Converters are installed near sources (e.g. customer PC) for the conversion of “analog”
video signals to DVI-D signals; in this case, the required 4 kV isolation is achieved by trans‐
ferring via fiber optic cables from the converter to the MDM input.
However up to a max. of 5 analog MDM inputs can also be used; in this case, an optical
isolation amplifier is required for 4 kV isolation.

10 1 General Information

A zero cross power distribution (0 continuity switches, supply voltage is switched in 0 op‐
eration) with x mains sockets for supply from MDM / converter / OTVs.

1.4.2 Hardware Components

The Large Display (LD) option is comprised of the following "individual assemblies":
n Large Display
- DSC 5608-DC
is a 56" color display with 8 MPixels
- DSC6012-DC
Is a 60” color display (LED backlight) with 8 MPixels
The Large Display optically displays the signal.
Depending on the model, it is a 56" or a 60" TFT monitor with controlled backlight.
It is monitored by the MDM by means of the SMFit (SW).
n MDM (Multi-Display Manager)
Depending on the part number, the MDM is a computer with many different video in‐
puts.
Depending on the system software, different HW versions are used. As a rule, "newer"
HW versions are not backwards-compatible (system software).

n Additional Components in the LDC (Large Display Container)

OTV:
Depending on the application, one or move OTVs can be installed in the LDC for opti‐
cal separation of the video inputs.

Bypass box:
Fig. 4: Bypass module installation location

(1) Depending on the system cabling, copper DVI-D cables can also be connected here.

Beginning with system SW VC21, the bypass function no longer takes place using an
additional 19" B/W monitor (as a rule, this was installed on the back of the Large Dis‐
play).
The bypass image (from the RTC) is displayed as an overlay to the original image via
the bypass box (in the LD Container) at the top left and bottom right on the Large Dis‐
play.

General Information 1 13

The downscaler / splitter generally has 2 functions:

- Downscaler, it makes a full HD output signal of the Large Display available
(1920x1080 via DVI-D) (same image content).
- Splitter: splits the video signal coming from the MDM to two Large Displays (same
image content).
- Video Streamer Box, beginning with system softwae VD11x, the Video Streamer Box
can be used for image transmission via the network (Full HD signal).
Overview of the general Cabling, depending on the application:
Fig. 7: VC14x - VD11x cabling of the LD components for the particular system software

The different cabling can be traced back to the following:

- No Splitter / Downscaler in the System:
The MDM output goes to the bypass module > the bypass module output goes di‐
rectly the display.
- A splitter / downscaler in the system (full HD output), but not 2 displays connected.
With this configuration, a splitter / downscaler failure is covered, the bypass signal
appears only afterwards.

© Siemens, 2011 TD00-LD1.842.02.06.02 Page 13 of 109 Large Display

12.14 CS PS AX NET/RS
14 1 General Information

- A splitter / downscaler in the system and 2 displays are configured.

With this, a total failure of a Large Display is covered; the bypass signal is displayed
before the splitter and is displayed on both LDs. However the splitter failure here
causes a complete failure.
n DP Converter to DVI-D:
Fig. 8: DP to DVI-D adapter, installation location

WIth use of the MDM, Part Number 10502048 or 10501973 or 10501972, a DP top
DVI-D converter is required (2 of them, one for each DP output).

1.4.3 Adjustments
All adjustments/settings are performed in the Artis zee system under Local Service.
Adjustment of the display is performed using the SMFit test meter (connected to the dis‐
play) under the Local Service.

1.4.4 Explanation of Functions

1.4.4.1 Bypass Box Downscaler / Splitter

If a bypass box and /or downscaler / splitter is present, it must be configured. This is nec‐
essary to correctly assign error messages. In another words, if the configuration is incor‐
rect, error messages are sent out incorrectly.
Prerequisite for correct function is correct system cabling, see ( Fig. 7 Page 13).
Configuration is different, depending on the system SW:
System SW VC14x, no configuration possible; “only” one LD was supported and there
was no bypass box.
With System SW VC21A, see ( System SW VC21A System Configuration / Page 15).

Beginning with system SW VC21x, a bypass box is always included in the shipment (new
shipments, beginning with VC21x); for upgrades from VC14x, a bypass box is not config‐

 ured.
A downscaler / splitter is an option that can be ordered; depending on the order / up‐
grade, a downscaler / splitter is / can be configured.

2.1 Performing customer-specific adjustments.

Use the document ( Connecting/Configuring an additional Video In‐
put / TD00-LD1.814.01) for installation of a new (retrofit) input in the Large Display.

 The document can be found on the CB-Doc under Installation > Retrofit of Options > For
Large Display > Installation and Startup > Connecting/Configuration an additional Video
Input.

n The changes that can be performed to the ECC display or to the layout as well as the
buttons or the environmental conditions (e.g. standby) are listed below.
n Abort Button under MDM (Large Display):

 All changes that were performed under Input Setup/Layout Editor or Button Assign‐
ment and that have not yet been saved (with Save under Button Assignment) can be
rejected by selecting "Abort".
If the Abort button is pressed, the MDM reboots and the configuration data saved on
the IVS are loaded. This function is also used in a replacement part situation to load
the original configuration.

Possible changes:
n At the ECC a maximum of 12 layouts are displayed in 3 levels.
The shift / replacement of layouts, e.g. replacing the 3rd place with 5th place or com‐
pletely removing layouts and replacing them with a new layout consisting of existing
(predefined) ones, is described below:
 ( Button Assignment / Page 32).
n Change the name of a layout (visible on the ECC, e.g. Neuro1) to “another” name (e.g.
Dr. Xxxx or ....), is described below:
 ( Changing Layout Names / Page 39).
n Change a layout.
Selected inputs are displayed in defined values at the display. The position / value of
these inputs to be changed (only for this one layout) and possibly also to be saved
with a new name, is described below:

2.2.1.3 Button Name

If a button is designated with a name, it is present on the ECC and can be selected; see
( 8/Fig. 32 Page 33).
If a button is designated as "Button", it is not assigned and is also not displayed on the
ECC, see ( 9/Fig. 32 Page 33).

2.2.2 Removing a Layout

Layout 1 is automatically assigned with the default layout on the ECC.

The default layout is defined in the Layout Editor; it appears in the Layout selection with
 an * (asterisk) after the name. Depending on the system software, defined inputs must
be present in the default layout as well as in all other layouts; for this, see ( Allocation
of the Required Inputs for the Layout / Page 92).

Description as to how a layout is removed from the ECC display:

Fig. 33: Removing the button from the ECC selection

1. Select the layout to be removed with the mouse, hold the left mouse key pressed and
pull the layout out of the area to the right and then release the mouse button.
 The name of the layout (display location on the ECC) changes to "Button 1 -12"
(depending on the position of the button).
 The original layout name is visible in the selection under “Layout Pool”, see
( 4/Fig. 32 Page 33).

2.2.3 Accepting a new Layout

Accepting a new layout into the ECC selection:
1. Select the particular layout under Layout Selection (Layout Name) with the left mouse
button held down.

ton.
 The new layout appears at the desired location.
3. Select Save, see ( 2/Fig. 32 Page 33).
4. Select > OK.

Depending on the software, an MDM reset is performed if an Artis zee Cockpit is connec‐
ted; a reset of the computer is also performed on it.

 If this is the case and configuration is performed on the WP of the Artis zee Cockpit mon‐
itor, wait for the restart and then reactivate the WP input (double-click). Afterwards, you
can continue to work "normally".

- VC21A / VC21B without Patch 2 System SW

An "incorrect" layout composition is saved without information, etc.
In a malfunction situation, the system remains in the bypass; the cause is "only"
displayed in the log.
- VC21B System SW with Patch 2 / VD10D / VD11x:
If a layout composition does not match the specifications, this is displayed, see
( Allocation of the Required Inputs for the Layout / Page 92)
Confirm the two messages with OK, see ( Fig. 34 Page 35).
NOTE: The "incorrect" layouts are not only saved in the MDM, they are also saved
on the IVS (C:\AXIOM\WSD\Backup). This means that the previous configuration
cannot be restored with Abort. There is also no update of the ECC; in other words,
different layout configurations than those saved in the MDM are displayed on the
ECC.
The "errors" must be corrected and save must be repeated until no error message
is displayed after the save.

2.4 Changing the Layout (display/composition, e.g. size/loca‐

tion of an input)

n Beginning with VD10D, there is a risk of "laying" inputs over one another in the Lay‐
out Editor. This can be seen on the LD with “Overlay"; this is not monitored by the SW
and it must be ensured manually that it does not happen, see
( 1/Fig. 42 Page 42).

n NEW beginning with VC21x / VD10x / VD11x:

The size of an input can be changed under Cache (currently unused inputs). Open
the required input with a double-click, change the size / cropping, then drag the in‐
put into the selected layout.
The exception is the MDM with Part Number 10410742: With this model, regardless
of the system SW, the area in the layout must always be free to drag an input into
the layout.
n Depending on the system software, defined layouts must be present in the default

 layout and in "other" layouts.

If these input are missing, depending on the system software version:
VC21B (Patch 6) / VD10:
error messages are generated when saving in Button Assignment > Save; for a listing
of the required inputs, see ( Allocation of the Required Inputs for the Lay‐
out / Page 92).
VD11:
The layout check for content of the specified inputs takes place during saving of the
particular layouts in Layout Editor > Save ......! The check in Button Assignment >
Save is also retained.
An incorrect layout will prevent saving in the Layout Editor, the message is displayed,
see ( Fig. 41 Page 42).
Only one missing input is always displayed; if several are missing, the next missing
one is displayed with the second /. third Save.... attempt.
For an explanation of a default layout, see ( Default Layout / Page 99).

5. Double-click on the To be changed window, see ( 1/Fig. 43 Page 43).

 A new window opens (requires some time), see ( 9/Fig. 43 Page 43).
6. Modifying the layout:

If a change is to be made by directly entering a number, after entering the number, the
mouse must be clicked in the window outside of the numeral entry to accept the value.
If a change is to be made using the arrow keys (stepwise change), make sure that you do
not press an arrow key longer than approx. 1 sec. If the selection is longer, the connec‐
tion can be interrupted and all steps will have to be worked through again individually.

 Possibility:
When the "Shift key and the left mouse button" are pressed on the particular arrow key,
the value is changed to 10 digits; the size may not be changed this way continuously,
but step by step. By doing this, the IE will not crash.
If the maximum magnification is reached (normally 2x the input size), the message
"overflow type 1" appears.

- Changing the size:

Changing the size, H or V always automatically results in correct H:V display; in
other words, if H is changed, V automatically changes to the correct H:V display.
- Changing the position:
The position of the display can be changed only if the input was openeding in the
corresponding layout. If it was opened in "Cache" (above), a position cannot be
changed.
H and/or V can be changed under Position, see ( 2/Fig. 43 Page 43). It is also pos‐
sible to move the window with the mouse (select the left mouse button, hold it
and make the move).

- Cropping the window:

The display can be cropped (top/bottom/right/left) under Cropping, see
( 11/Fig. 43 Page 43).

 Never crop a Live X-ray image!

7. Close the window by selecting "Apply".

8. Save the modified layout:
- With the VC21 / VD10 System Software:

Beginning with system software VD11, specification of which input must be present
in which layout must already be met in the Layout Editor.

 If the specification is not met, the layout cannot be saved.

For the specifications, see: ( Allocation of the Required Inputs for the Lay‐
out / Page 92)

- with “ < Save Layout “ the changed layout is saved under the same name, only
with the performed change.

- Or save with a new layout name with “< Save Layout as ...“, see
( 7/Fig. 43 Page 43).
When this is done, the "original" layout will be kept and can be used.
- With “ < Save as default Layout “ the layout is saved as the default layout, mean‐
ing that it is the first selectable layout which all X-ray image inputs must display.
This saving option is only selected if it is absolutely necessary.
- With " Delete ", the currently selected layout is deleted.
9. Following the change, the chapter ( Button Assignment / Page 32) must be per‐

 n Beginning with system SW VD10x, rules must be observed with the use of IVUS un‐
der Input Setup as well as with the layout assignment (IVUS layout); for this, see
( IVUS Configuration / Page 89).
n The "Voice Control" function takes on special significance for configuration; for this,
see ( Configuring Voice Control / Page 97).
n Beginning with system SW VC21x, an input with Screen 2 can be displayed in the
same layout with a different size. Example: Assist input is displayed completely
"small" and the Assist is also displayed "larger" in the same layout in the data area
(cropping).

To reconnect a input and completely reconfigure it, see ( Connecting/Configuring an ad‐

ditional Video Input / TD00-LD1.814.01).

(cropping).

To reconnect and completely reconfigure a input, see ( Connecting/Configuring an addi‐

tional Video Input / TD00-LD1.814.01).

(1) Selecting the particular input

(2) Pull-down list of screen names
(3) Alias name for the screen name
(4) Color for the segment header

a) Open Input Setup: Artis Components > MDM (Large Display) > Input Setup.
b) Select the input to be changed, see ( 1/Fig. 45 Page 49) as an example.
c) Open the drop-down list, see ( 2/Fig. 45 Page 49).
d) Change options:
- Inputs: Live (A/B) and Assist (A/B) and if present Workplace (A) and IVUS, must
be accepted with the name from the drop-down list, because they are moni‐
tored by the SW.
- However an alias name (visible name in the segment header) can also be as‐
signed under Screen Alias for these inputs, see ( 3/Fig. 45 Page 49). This alias
name is then the visible name in the segment header; the screen name is used
internally for SW monitoring.

 If an Artis zee Cockpit is configured, pay attention to name conformity to avoid mis‐
understandings!

2. For Border Color or Color of the Segment Header, see ( 4/Fig. 45 Page 49):
A color selection is opened by double-clicking on the color display; the color of the
segment header can be changed by selecting a color.

The color of the plane assignment, e.g. Live (A/B), Assist (A/B), should not be changed; if

this is done, misunderstanding can occur. If an Artis zee Cockpit is confiugred, the colors
of the inputs, which are also displayed on the Artis zee Cockpit, should not be changed.
Reason: Changing the color of the screen header on the Artis zee Cockpit is not possible.

2.6.3 Downscaler / Splitter Configuration

A configuration, whether or not a downscaler / splitter is present, must always be per‐

formed; the configuration is different between VC21x and VD10x/VD11x.
 For this, see( Explanation of Functions / Page 14).
This is necessary to correctly allocate the error messages to this component.

Performing the Downscaler / Splitter Configuration:

1. The configuration is different in system software VC21 (without Patch 6) and VC21
with Patch 6 or VD10x/VD11x; for configuration, see ( Bypass Box Downscaler / Split‐
ter / Page 14).
2. An additional configuration switch is located on the downscaler/splitter.
If the configuration is incorrect, the function of the downscaler / splitter is not ensur‐
ed. This can cause a failure of the MDM.

C SMFit measuring instrument cases with "incorrect" adapters are in circulation.

The “incorrect” adapter can be recognized by its “knurled screws”, see
( 3/Fig. 52 Page 57) .
SMFit measuring instruments must be calibrated every 2 years. The adapter is checked at
the calibration station and is replaced if incorrect. In this way, incorrect adapters can be
taken out of circulation; the note has been retained to be certain of this.

3.2 Checking / Adjusting Brightness / Contrast

System SW VC21A; beginning with VC21B, the "effect" has been corrected:
If a "stand message line" or a change in the message is sent during selection of the SMFit
(test image or adjustment), only the stand message line will appear on the display.
A reset to the test image is possible only by closing the SMFit with "Logout" and restart‐
ing the selection.
Monoplane system:

 During the SMFit function, open the door to the examination room and leave it open; in
this way, Door Open is displayed and the display does not move. It is possible to work
with SMFit.
Biplane system:
With a biplane system, the network connector on the RTC must be unplugged. This way,
no messages will be displayed on the LD. Unfortunately, opening the door is not suffi‐
cient with biplane. IMPORTANT: after completing SMFit, reconnect the network connec‐
tor and check to ensure that a message is displayed on the LD.

n Beginning with system SW VC21x, two Large Displays can be connected using a
downscaler/splitter.
When making display adjustments, it is absolutely necessary to ensure that the cor‐
rect display is selected.
To check which display is active or how to make the change, see the following de‐
 n
scription.
If the remeasurement tolerances (in the subsequent test) are met, an adjustment
does not need to be performed.
n If a "protective glass" (additional Plexiglas panel) is in use, it has to be removed be‐
fore a measurement or adjustment.
n Follow the information regarding service software restrictions under ( syngo service

When making display adjustments, it is absolutely necessary to ensure that the cor‐
rect display is selected.
For this, see ( Check / Page 58).
n If connection problems occur, a display is not detected or the connected SMFit test
meter is not detected, perform an auto detection as described in ( Auto Detec‐

To start the calibration, the display must be connected to line power for at least 20
minutes. If this time limit is not reached, an error message appears; the request can
be repeated with Retry; see ( 2/Fig. 68 Page 67).
n Attention: The power save mode or no video timing on the display will cause a re‐
start of the timer (20 minutes).
The power save mode (if active) can be prevented by creating a patient.
n If problems occur during the measuring sequence, e.g., SMFit no longer reacts or re‐
acts incorrectly, reset the measurement device (using the on/off button).

With the change to 65 measurements, the accuracy of the measurement is improved
under normal circumstances.

d) Continue with Next, see ( 7/Fig. 71 Page 70).

3.3 Changing the LUT Curve

n Beginning with system SW VC21x, two Large Displays can be connected using a
downscaler/splitter.
When making display adjustments, it is absolutely necessary to ensure that the cor‐
rect display is selected.
To check which display is active or how to make the change, see ( Check / Page 58)
n The Large Display is shipped with the LUT (Gamma Model) DICOM14; however, this
may not represent the best image quality on site depending on the application.
The following describes the process for changing the display to different Gamma
LUTs. Three different Gammas have been installed; select the Gamma that provides
the best image quality based on the conditions on site.
 n Deliveries beginning approx. March 2011 have been converted to the LUT change
described here (Gamma model).
For this conversion, "only" the new LUT has to be selected (Monitor Management >
LUT Selection), reconfiguration has been omitted.
Shipment:
LUT 1 => DICOM 14 (300 cd/m² <=> 0.45 cd/m²
LUT 2 => Gamma Model 2.7 (300 cd/m² <=>natural)
LUT 3 => Gamma Model 3.0 (300 cd/m² <=>natural)

3.4 Checking Luminance Uniformity (Brightness Distribution)

3.4.1 Checking Luminance Uniformity

n Adjustment of luminance uniformity is no longer possible!

Reason:
The test and adjustment is performed on too many measurment points (approx. 30
measurement points), which means in the worst case that the back light is set much
too high and as a result goes out completely faster.
On such devices, there is no guarantee with respect to loss of brightness!
The manufacturer performs an adjustment according to DIN guidelines (5 measure‐

 n
ment points) and ensures adherence to DIN.
The German DIN V 6868-57 standard (Assurance of Image Quality in radiographic-di‐
agnostic Operations) includes a test point regarding "Uniformity of Luminance in the
Image". This standard must be used for monitors that are used by the customer as
diagnostic monitors.
The standard is used in Germany and in Austria (status as of 2010) if the monitor is
defined as a diagnostic monitor).
The luminance uniformity is based on the 5 measurement points defined under DIN
6868-57.
See the following regarding procedure for subsequent measurements.

3.4.1.1 Checking Luminance Uniformity

Checking Luminance Uniformity Attention: This chapter describes "only" a check of lu‐
minance uniformity, not the adjustment!

5.1 IVUS Configuration

General:
Beginning with system software VD10x, the IVUS function is enabled with a license key;
when this is done, an IVUS Map tab card is enabled.
With Large Display, a layout must be defined as IVUS; this layout must contain defined
inputs.
The name of the layout does not have to be IVUS, it can be anything; however the inputs
in the layout must meet the specifications, see ( Allocation of the Required Inputs for
the Layout / Page 92). The check of the required inputs in the IVUS layout always takes
place with Button Assignment > Save (also with system software VD11x).
Specifications for Use of IVUS beginning with System SW VD10x:
1. A license key must be present, under Service UI > Configuration > Artis System > Sys‐
tem Config > IVUS Map (key), set to “Yes”, see ( Fig. 94 Page 89).

5.3 Cleaning Information

Information for cleaning agents/disinfectants apply only to the display to which this

 document refers.
Not the entire system!

Information about cleaning agents must be observed; if agents are used other than
those listed, the display surface can be irretrievably damaged.
 Cleaning agents may not remain on the surface for an extended period.
If this is not observed, the warranty is invalidated.

Equipment Care, Cleaning and Disinfection:

n The front of the display is very sensitive to mechanical damage; absolutely avoid
scratches, shocks, etc.
n Promptly remove any drops of liquid that fall on it; extended contact with liquids may
cause, for example, discoloration or calcium outlines on the surface.
n If there is dirt on the front of the display, clean it with a microfiber cloth and if neces‐
sary with a cleaning agent. Clean housing components only with the recommended
cleaning agents.
n If a cleaning agent is sprayed directly on the display surface, make sure that any drop‐
lets that run down are wiped off with a microfiber cloth before they reach the edge of
the panel.

5.5 Default Layout

 Default Layout; if the default layout is "wrong", the system will not go out of the bypass
mode!

Default Layout
n The X-ray video channels must always be integrated into the default layout:
For Monoplane: Live; with biplane: Live A and Live B!
 If an X-ray channel is missing in the default layout, the system will not go out
of the bypass mode.
n A layout becomes the default layout when the particular layout is saved with "Save as
default layout" under Layout Editor (this will then contain the ending "*").
n One layout (only one) must be saved as the "default layout".
The particular default layout is marked with a "*" and is automatically saved as the
first selectable layout (e.g. on the ECC); this cannot be changed; the default layout is
always the first layout.
With selection of another layout as the default layout, the allocation is automatically
switched to the new one.
