SOLUBILITY
Emulsogen® MTP 070 is soluble in mineral oil, esters, e.g. TMP-trioleate and vegetable oil
(e.g. rape seed oil). Aqueous solutions are clear to hazy.

STORAGE STABILITY
Due to its low pour point Emulsogen® MTP 070 can be poured and pumped at low
temperatures.
Recommended storage temperature: 20 °C
Sensitive to frost.
Shelf-life: 2 years.
In case the product becomes opaque, thick or frozen due to the effects of cold, it has to be
slowly warmed up to approx. 30 - 50 °C and completely homogenized.

APPLICATION

Emulsogen® MTP 070 is an excellent emulsifier for mineral oils and vegetable oil.
Already 5% of Emulsogen® MTP 070, calculated on the amount of mineral oil to be
emulsified, is sufficient for stable emulsions. For rape seed oil approx. 15-20%
Emulsogen® MTP 070 is necessary; the emulsions are stable for more than 14 days.
Emulsogen® MTP 070 also shows outstanding lime soap dispersing power and is able to
disperse large quantities of calcium oleate or tallate (K-value: approx. 20 - 25 g according
to DIN 53903).
When applied as a nonionic emulsifier component in emulsifiable metal working fluids,
Emulsogen® MTP 070 is highly compatible with anionic and other nonionic formulation
components.
Emulsogen® MTP 070 has been optimized for mineral oil solubility. In contrast to standard
ethoxylates, Emulsogen® MTP 070 is completely soluble in naphthenic, paraffinic and
hydrocrack mineral oils, petroleum spirit and rape seed oil (see table 1) and is therefore
easy to formulate.
Because of its outstanding solubility in almost all kinds of mineral oils, Emulsogen® MTP
070 can be used as anti wear additive to improve lubricity (see table 2). Emulsogen® MTP
070 is by far a better lubricant than mineral oil and TMP-trioleate.
Mixtures of Emulsogen® MTP 070 and mineral oil are easy to remove with water, because
low viscous emulsions are formed spontaneously, barely leaving residuals after rinsing.

FORMATION OF RESIDUES AFTER HEAT TREATMENT / THERMO GRAVIMETRIC ANALYSIS
(TGA)
A sample of Emulsogen® MTP 070 was heated from room temperature to 600°C (heating
rate: 5 °C/min) under an air flow of 5 ml/min. The product is almost completely
pyrolyzed; residue formation is low at a level of 0,5 %. The point of inflection is approx.
336 °C. Emulsogen® MTP 070 is therefore suitable for hot rolling fluid applications. For
comparison: under same conditions mineral oil (Nynas T 22) forms approx. 0,5 % and
TMP-tricocoate 0,6 % residues. Respective inflection points are 262 °C and 336 °C.

FOAM PROPERTIES

Emulsogen® MTP 070 is designed to be a low foaming formulation component.

Blended with strong foaming emulsifiers (e.g. Genapol® LA 040) it supports foam
suppression and reduces overall foaming tendency.
The foam properties were checked with a SITA-foam tester R 2000.
The foam is generated by air intake through a turning rotor blade and the measurement
of the foam height, as well as of the foam decay is done via a needle detector.

Test conditions: 250 ml / 40°C / 2000 rpm.

Applied formula:
1g emulsifier resp. mixture of emulsifiers
99 g water (20°dH = 350 ppm CaCO3)
7,5 g BDG (butyl diglycol)
