Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha

Sanhita

The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), enacted on December 25,

2023, aims to modernize and streamline India's criminal justice system.
It seeks to replace outdated colonial-era laws, addressing issues like
procedural complexities, case backlogs, low conviction rates, and
inadequate use of technology in legal processes.
The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita is a comprehensive legal document
that outlines the rules and regulations governing the rights and
responsibilities of Indian citizens.
This document covers a wide range of topics, including the application of the
law, definitions of key terms, and the roles and responsibilities of various
government entities.
Scope and Application

The provisions of this Sanhita, other than those relating to Chapters IX, XI and XII, shall not apply to the
State of Nagaland or the tribal areas. However, the concerned State Government may choose to
apply such provisions or any of them to the whole or part of the State of Nagaland or the tribal areas,
with any necessary modifications.
