3. Miss Marchu G. Tijing, (PNAO)
Good morning everyone! We are here to give you some information about the Nutrition
Program, here in the Barangay level. Inasmuch as Lopez-Jaena is designated to be the pilot
community of the Nutrition Program we have requested the Municipal Mayor Michael Gutierrez for
his support. The Punong Barangay is the lead person in this program. We are here to do the best we
can to push this through.
There are five provinces identified in this region and among those are: Camiguin, Lanao del
Norte, Misamis Occidental and etc. Malnourished/ undernourished children are being identified here
in Misamis Occidental of which most of them are grade school children.
We are open to any knowledge you may have about nutrition. Exective Order mandates to
revive the Provincial Nutrition Committee to implement the program from the provincial level down
to the barangay level. First, is the creation of the BNC (Barangay Nutrition Committee). Second, the
EO requires all barangay captains to organize and implement the program with himself as the leader
in his barangay.
The Nutrition Program has existed for over a long period already but this is the first time it is
in this municipality.
Local agencies in the community such as DepEd, MAO, Tesda, Dole, PNP, with NGO’s such as
Paglaum, Himaya, Women “s shold also be included. As we look at the organizational flow of the
listing we see an arrow (shown on a chart). The Barangay Captain is at the top to signify he is in
command. The BNS is his alter ego as myself is the alter ego of Governor Hermie Ramiro.
The BNS may inform all persons concerned that it is the program of the punong barangay.
PNAO:
Those 32 malnourished ones are given a period of one year rehabilitation. It requires twelve
days rehabilitation for one malnourished child. Nutritional level should be arranged in age bracket
groups. As a result the province of Misamis Occidental shot up in number for the reason that the
trend of nutritional status was not taken into consideration.
Calorie- dense foods should be the kind to be fed to undernourished children like gabi, camote
and other foods with high calorie content.
It takes one to be innovative to make the food attractive to the child who doesn’t like to eat a
particular food as malungay for one. Improving the taste and making it presentable can help improve
the appetite.
Weighing is the most important and realistic activity as it determines the nutritional status of
the child. The best impact is to lessen the number of malnourished ones. “ Ug unsay gisulat sa
targetted outcomes maora pod paninglon.”
The Executive Order mandates the creation of the Nutrition Program. The Barangay can seek
assistance for the purchase of weighing tools.
Barangay Captain: As what has always been done, it is the RHU who has control over the BNS. We are
only approached whenever a need arises.
PNAO: Everytime the captain makes a visit it should be properly acknowledged such as taking
pictures ETC.
Captain: If we ever need assistance on some problems or difficulties, can we call on you?
PNAO: Yes, we are always ready to respond.
If there are no more questions, we’d like to express our thanks to all who have come and
shared moments with us. Good day everyone.
MARINA P. BARRETE
Barangay Secretary
