1. Laptop Computer with RS232 DB9 Serial connector.

 NOTE: Most laptops made today are not equipped with an RS232 DB9 Serial
connector. You may need to find an adapter cable that connects to a USB port and
has a male DB9 connector. Ensure the conversion made is USB to RS242.

 NOTE: If a USB cable cannot be found, a more versatile solution would be a


PCMCIA adapter card that extends a DB9 connector from your PCI BUS.

 Note: You should have a programming key in the truck when delivered.
Connecting Laptop to CCU

Connecting Laptop to CCU

1. Connect FEMALE end of DB9 Serial Cable to serial cable of laptop computer.

2. Remove the electrical cover in the cab behind the seats to access the electrical panel.
3. Connect MALE end of DB9 Serial cable to PROGRAM DOWNLOAD connector.

4. Use Programming Key to switch CCU to Program mode by turning key clockwise to 1
position.

Your laptop should be successfully connected to the CCU programming port and the CCU
should be enabled to receive a software update.

 NOTE: If not already done, connect Laptop to CCU programming port.

1. Set ignition key switch to the ON position.

2. Locate your CCU software. The filename will be the part number of the software. Ensure
you have the correct version. The file will have a .mot file extension. If the Flash
Development Tool (FDT) is installed correctly, if you open this file (double click on it), it
should launch the FDT with this file as the currently open file that is ready for uploading to
the CCU.

3. With the FLASH Development Toolkit open with the correct CCU software in view, click
on the Image button at the top of the screen. Refer to Figure 6.

4. A drop-down menu will appear below the Image button . Click on the
Download Image Ctrl+P selection.
 NOTE: When a selection has a Key Combo listed next to it (ie: Ctrl+P) you
can press the combo at any time to perform the action. So if you prefer to use
shortcut key combos instead of navigating with the mouse, feel free to use them.

5. The dialog box shown in Figure 8 below is the Image Download Dialog box. On the top
right of the dialog box you will see a drop-down menu with the label – Target Device:.
Ensure you choose the correct option based on the type of CCU you are programming.
6. Under the User Settings - Select the communication (COM) port you are using to
communicate with the CCU. If you are not sure which COM port you are using refer to
Locating Your COM Port section of this manual. The Baud rate is 19200.
7. Under the Connection heading, select BOOT Mode radio button and the Select Interface:
drop-down menu should be set to Direct Connection.
8. Click on the Connect Button.

9. After connecting to the CCU you will receive a message in the message box:
Connection complete. If you do not get the Connection complete message, retry
uploading the software. If you do get the Connection complete message, continue to the
next step.

10. Click on the Download file XXXXX to device button
 NOTE: This button will show your version of the software you are
UPLOADING to the CCU. It may have changed since the creation of this manual.
 NOTE: This button says DOWNLOAD instead of UPLOAD – this is an error
in the program. The correct terminology would be UPLOAD since the file is being
transferred from your Laptop PC to the CCU.

11. After you click on the Download button, the actual file transfer will take a minute or two –
be patient. You can see the progress in the progress bar shown at the bottom right of the
screen.
12. When the Upload is completed you will receive the message: Image successfully written
to device and a choice window will appear asking you: Would you like to perform a read-
back verification?
13. Click on the Yes button , to perform the read-back verification.
14. The read-back verification takes about as long as the actual upload takes. This step is
done to ensure that the CCU encountered no errors while accepting the new software
upload.
15. If the Image was not successfully written to the device, return to step 1 and try again.

16. If the read-back verification is successful, you will receive a message: Verification OK.
You have successfully programmed the device.

17. You can now close the FDT, turn the ignition switch to OFF. Disconnect your laptop from
the CCU and turn the programming key counter clockwise to the 0 position and remove
the key. Install the electrical cover that was removed.

Configuring and Reading CCU - Hitachi


Controller Tool
1. Remove the electrical cover behind the seats in the cab to access the electrical panel and
connect your laptop PC to the CCU programming port. Refer to Connecting Laptop to
CCU section of this manual.
2. In the System menu, choose the Standard Panel F7 selection.
 NOTE: Any time you see a menu selection with a key combo or key
designation next to it, that means you can press that key or key combo to access
that option. It is a quicker way to access menus in the program.

Standard Panel
1. In the Standard Panel there are three tabs you can choose. Select the General Settings
Tab .
2. When the General Settings tab is selected, click on the Read button
on the top left of the Standard Panel.
3. If you have just recently uploaded software to the CCU the information will all be blank. If
you have already installed and configured the CCU, click on the read button will read
back the info already present.
Identity

1. To change or add any new configuration data to the CCU you must first check the EDIT
check box in the Standard Panel by clicking on the box.

2. The Identity panel is where you configure the truck information into the CCU. The model
is selectable through a drop-down menu. Once you choose a Model from the menu it will
ask you if you wish to save this information to the CCU.

3. When the new model is chosen, all of the old configuration data will be wiped out. You
will have to enter the Serial Number manually. Refer to the documentation that came
with the truck on delivery for the serial number.

Rim/Tire Type
4. Click on the Edit Tire/Rim button in the Tire/Rim Type section of the Standard
Panel.

5. The Tires – Rims window will open and you will be able to choose the type of tires and
rims that are installed on the truck – Front and Back – through a series of drop down
menus. Refer to Figure 18.

6. When finished selecting the tires and rims for the truck, click on the OK button.

7. After clicking on the OK button you will be brought back to the Standard Panel. Click on
the Write button located at the top left of the Standard Panel to
write all of the information to the CCU.
8. You will be asked to confirm the Write. Check all of your information entered quickly and
if it is all correct click on the Yes button.

9. Remove the check from the Edit check box in the Identity section of the Standard
panel.

Operation
10. Click on the Edit check box in the Operation section of the Standard Panel.

11. Provide the correct password to edit the operation section data and click on OK.

12. If the password provided was correct, the Operation section will become Editable. Enter
in the correct data for each field and then click on the Write checkbox to enable
writing.

13. With both the Write and Edit checkboxes in the Operation section checked, Click on the
Write button located at the top left of the Standard Panel to write
the information to the CCU.
14. You will get a confirmation box after clicking on the Write button. Click on Yes
if your data is correct.

15. Remove the check from the Edit Checkbox in the Operation section of the
Standard Panel.

Configuring OPTIONS
Under the OPTIONS tab of the Standard panel is the options menu.

1. Check the Edit box to enable Edit Mode for the Options panel.
2. Select the appropriate options configuration for the truck.
3. Click on the WRITE button.
4. Confirm the WRITE by choosing YES in the pop-up box.
5. Remove the check on the Edit Checkbox.

Reading and Saving a Report
Under the REPORT tab of the Standard Panel you can view and save an ASCII text file with all
of the CCU vehicle data.

To save a copy, click on the SAVE REPORT button at the bottom of the
screen.

A save window will appear with the default directory and default file name selected. You can
change the directory and filename if you wish. Should you want to open a saved report you can
open it with any ASCII text viewer. The most common ASCII text viewer would be Windows
Notepad.

To locate your COM port first Access the windows CONTROL PANEL

1. Access the SYSTEM


2. Click on the DEVICE MANAGER button.
3. Expand the Ports (COM & LPT) tree under the HARDWARE tab.

Your COM port(s) will be listed in this tree.
