SECTION E
CASE BASED Questions 4 marks each
36.Case study :1

A football coach knows that his team will play 40 percent of its games on artificial turf this
season. He also knows that a player’s chances of incurring a knee injury are 50 percent higher
if he is playing on artificial turf instead of grass. If a player’s probability of knee injury on
artificial turf is 0.42, what is the probability that

(i) A randomly selected player incurs a knee injury? [2]

(ii) A randomly selected player with a knee injury incurred the injury playing on grass? [2]

37. Case Study 2: In a residential society comprising of 100 houses, there were 60 children
between the ages of 10-15 years. They were inspired by their teachers to start composting to
ensure

XII First Model Examination 202-23 Page 5 of 7 SET A Mathematics (041)

that biodegradable waste is recycled. For this purpose, instead of each child doing it for only
his/ her house, children convinced the residents welfare association to do it as a society
initiative. For this they identified a square area of side x metres in the local park. Local
authorities charged amount of ₹ 50 per square meter for space so that there is no misuse of
the space and resident welfare association takes it seriously. Association hied a labourer for
digging out 250m3 and he charged ₹ 400×(depth)2. Association will like to have minimum
cost.
Based on this information, answer the following questions.

(i) Find the value of x (in m) for which cost is minimum [3]

(ii) Find minimum cost of digging the pit. [1]

38. Case Study 3: A mixed nut company uses cashews nuts, macadamias nuts and brazil nuts
to make three gourmet mixes. The table indicates the weight in hundreds of grams of each
kind of nut required to make a kilogram of mix.

Mix A Mix B Mix C

Cashews 5 2 6
Macas 3 4 1
Brazils 2 4 3
If 1 kg of mix A costs ₹125 to produce, 1 kg of mix B costs ₹124 and 1 kg of mix C
costs ₹117,
(i)Determine the cost per kilogram of each different kind of nut [3]
(ii) Hence find the cost per kg to produce a mixture containing 400 grams of
ashews nuts, 200 grams of macasamias nuts and 400 grams of brazil nuts. [1]
