LESSON PLAN in ENGLISH IV

Let us recall first our lesson last time on different kinds of adverbs.
(The teacher asks some questions on the previous lesson.)
C. Lesson Proper

1. Motivation
The teacher will show dance video through video presentation. The pupils will follow on the
dance video presented.

Say:
We all know that as of now, everyone is staying at home because of the pandemic brought about
by the Covid-19 disease or virus. I’m sure most of you help your parents in doing household
chores.
This time, I will read a short paragraph about helping at home.
( Teacher will read the short paragraph aloud.)

Ana helped her mom cook dinner. They carefully cut the vegetables and
slowly placed them into a boiling pot of water. Next, mom quickly browned
the chicken and patiently let it cook. She works fast. Ana eagerly waited for
her next job, which was to gently sprinkle spices into the soup. But she
accidentally poured in too much pepper. Ana quietly told her mom her
mistake and she sweetly told her, as a child, she had coincidentally done the
same mistake. Now she realized how fun it is to help her mom cook dinner.

Ask:

1. Who helped mother cook dinner?


2. What did Ana do to help her mother?
3. Why did you think mother did not get angry at Ana when she accidentally poured too much pepper?
4. How does Ana feel after helping her mother?

2. Teaching/ Modelling
I have here sentences taken from the short paragraph.
1. They carefully cut the vegetables.
2. She slowly placed them in a boiling pot of water.
3. Ana waited eagerly for her next job.
4. She accidentally poured in too much pepper.
5. Ana quietly told her mom her mistake.

Ask:

How do they cut the vegetables?

How did she placed them in a boiling pot of water?

How did Ana wait for her next job?

How did she pour the pepper?

How did Ana tell her mom about her mistake?

As you can see, there are underlined words in each sentence. We call these words as ADVERBS of MANNER.
These words tell us how things are done. It answers the question “how”. It is formed by adding –ly after the main
adjective.

Now, let us study how adverbs of manner are formed, through a chart.

3. Guided Practice
A. Directions: Read the poem aloud and identify the adverb of manner in the short poem. Using the
meta strips provided paste the main adjective on column A, paste the adverb of manner on column
B, and the meaning on column C.

Quickly, horses moves around the track


Loudly, the fierce dog barks
The birds sing sweetly
While the rabbit jumps excitedly.

The zookeeper was so lovely


That she entertain everyone cheerfully
She also dances gracefully
That’s why she’s admired by everybody.

4. Independent Practice
Group the pupils into 2. Recall first the standards in doing group activity.

Directions: Identify the adverb of manner in a short paragraph. Using the meta strips provided, paste the main
adjective on column A, paste the adverb of manner on column B, and its meaning on column C.

talent on sculpture. Mang Lucio, one of the contestant carved the wood skillfully

He ran quickly up on stage and thankfully received his cash prize. The audience
proudly clapped their hands. He went home excitedly with smile on his face.

Directions: Use adverbs of manner to complete each sentence by adding –ly to the adjectives/noun inside the
parenthesis. Write your answer on the blank.

The value of kindness can be shown by helping others specially with our parents at home. Let’s enjoy life

E. Generalization
Adverbs of manner are words that tell us how things are done. They answer the question “how”. It is formed by
adding -ly after the main verb or adjective . Examples of adverbs of manner are: carefully, softly, deeply,
lovingly, politely and many more.

F. Application
Directions: Read each sentence aloud. Identify and encircle the adverbs of manner in each sentence.
