Question No 1:
Show that the function f(z) = |z| is differentiable z=0 but not
analytic z=0
Solution:
Function f(z)=|z| is differentiable z=0 ,
Now we can use the definition of complex differentiable,
A function f(z) is differentiable at point z=z0 if the limit.
f ( z 0+h )−f ( z 0 )
f ′ (z0) = limit h→ 0
h , exist

Lets apply this definition to f (z) = |z| at z=0

f ( h )−f ( 0 )
f ′ (0) = limit h→ 0
h

Hence, we can consider the limits from left to right limits,

right limit (h→ 0 ¿ +¿∧¿ ¿¿

And,
h
f ′ (0) = h→ 0 +¿ =1 ¿
h

So,
−h
f ′ (0) = h→ 0 −¿
h
=−1 ¿

Therefore, the limits is not equal (left and right limits) does not
exist .
f(z)=|z| is not exist differentiable z=0 ,then f(z)=|z| is not
analytic ,we need to show that its derivative does not exist in
any neighborhood of z=0 ,we can show that its derivative is not
exist z=0 ,it follow that f(z)=|z| is not analytic z=0.
Question No 2:
Compute the analytic region of f(z) = (x-y¿ +i 3(x + y ) 3

Solution:
Hence we can use Cauchy Riemann equation. The Cauchy
Riemann equation we give us necessary condition for complex
function to be analytic,
f (z) = (x-y¿ +i 3(x + y )
3

Now we can check this Cauchy Riemann equation .The Cauchy

Riemann equation for a function f(z) = u(x,y) +iv(x,y) are given,
so,
∂u ∂v
=
∂x ∂ y
……….equ (1)
∂u −∂ v
Now, =
∂ y ∂x
… … … .. equ ( 2 )

Suppose, f (z) = (x-y¿ +i 3 ( x + y ) where u(x,y) = (x-y¿ ∧¿

3 3

v(x,y) = 3 ( x+ y )
∂u
and we can compute partial derivative, ∂x = 3 ( x+ y ) 2

Now,
∂u
∂y = −3 ( x− y ) 2

∂v ∂v
∂x
=3 and ∂y
=3

Now we check the Cauchy Riemann equation

∂u ∂v
∂x = ∂y

3 ( x− y )
2
=3 this is true for all x,y
And
∂u ∂v
∂y = ∂x

−3 ( x− y )
2
= -3 this is true for all x,y
Since both equation are satisfied for all x and y.function
f(z) =(x-y¿ +i 3 ( x + y ) is analytic in the entire complex plane.
3

Therefore analytic region is the entire complex plane.
