**Course Syllabus: Basic Computer Skills**

**Course Description:**

This course introduces fundamental computer skills necessary for everyday use and provides a
foundation for further learning. Students will learn essential software applications, file management,
internet basics, and basic troubleshooting techniques.

**Course Objectives:**

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Navigate the Windows (or macOS) operating system effectively.

2. Use word processing software to create and format documents.

3. Create and manage spreadsheets for basic data analysis.

4. Utilize email for communication and manage email accounts.

5. Browse the internet safely and efficiently.

6. Understand basic computer hardware and software components.

7. Troubleshoot common computer problems and perform basic maintenance tasks.

**Course Details:**

**Week 1: Introduction to Computers and Operating Systems**

- Overview of computer hardware and software

- Introduction to operating systems (Windows or macOS)

- Navigating the desktop and file management

**Week 2: Word Processing Basics**

- Introduction to word processing software (Microsoft Word or equivalent)

- Creating, formatting, and editing documents

- Using templates and styles for efficiency


**Week 3: Spreadsheet Fundamentals**

- Introduction to spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel or equivalent)

- Creating, formatting, and editing spreadsheets

- Basic formulas and functions for data analysis

**Week 4: Email and Internet Basics**

- Setting up and managing email accounts

- Composing, sending, and organizing emails

- Safe internet browsing practices and online resources

**Week 5: Computer Hardware and Software**

- Understanding computer hardware components

- Overview of software types: applications, utilities, etc.
