● Chemistry is a branch of science that deals with the properties, composition and
reactions of substances.
● The branches of chemistry are Organic,Inorganic, Analytical, Biochemistry,
Physical.
● Beaker is used to mix and heat large amounts of substances.
● Test tube is used for heating and mixing small amounts of substances
● Condenser is used to cool a vapour so it becomes liquid.
● The bunsen burner was invented in 1855 by Robert Bunsen, a German chemist.
● Physical changes result in permanent change.
● Physical changes are generally reversible, and they don't accompany heat
change.
● Matter is classified into Living things and Non Living things.
● Non-living things are pure and impure, impure substances are mixtures, while
pure substances are elements and compounds.
● A solvent is substance that dissolves another substance to form a solute
● A solute is the substance that is dissolved in the water
● Miscible liquids are liquids that can be dissolved while immiscible liquids cannot
dissolve.
● Flotation is adding specific chemicals to create bubbles that adhere to the
substance and start bubbling so it makes collection easy.
● Chromatography separates mixture due to their different interactions with a
mobile and stationary phase.
● Sublimation is when you have two solids and want to separate one from the next
● Decartation is a mixture of liquids and solids being separated.
● Atoms are the basic units of matter, it is the smallest electrically neutral particle
of an element.
● Sub-atomic particles are what atoms are made up of, they are two types protons
and neutrons.
● Protons are positively charged, while neutrons are neutral(no charge)
● A.M.U means atomic mass unit.
