READ THE PASSAGE AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THAT FOLLOW.

A few years ago seven swallows were caught near their nests in Germany. They were marked
with a red dye on some of their white feathers, so that they could easily be seen. Then they
were taken to a place near London by aeroplane, at a distance of about 4000 kms.
Those seven swallows were set free. Five of them flew back to their nests in Germany. How did
they find their way at such a long distance, which they had never made before? That is a great
puzzle. We want to know exactly what senses the birds use to find their way, how they know in
which direction to go until they can see familiar landmarks.
No scientific experiments have yet been made on this question. They are called 'migrating birds'
and are a great mystery of all birds. Not only do they return from Africa to England next spring
but often they come back to nest in the very same house where they nested the year before.

28. What identification mark was put on the seven swallows caught in Germany?
(A) Red paint (B) Red ribbon (C) Red dye (D) Red cloth

29. They were taken to London by air and were set free to see if ___________.
(A) they knew the route back to their home / nests
(B) they had followed any landmark
(C) they had sense of direction
(D) any scientific experiment could solve the mystery

30. The writer regards the return of the migrating birds covering a long distance from England to
South Africa ____________.
(A) a mystery (B) a suspense (C) a fun (D) a magic

31. What was the surprise in the return of the swallows from England back to their nests in
Germany?
(A) They had never flown on that route.
(B) They had not seen any familiar landmark.
(C) No scientific experiment has ever been done earlier to form a base to solve the riddle.
(D) They couldn't find result of any scientific study on their ability to return to their nests even after a year.
