Build an EndNote library and import references from different sources
Direct export from database, import PDF files, or key in the information
manually for websites
Manage full text by attaching the article or finding full text in your library
Can share the library with other colleagues and also back up your data
CWYW insert citations in Word and PowerPoint
When using academic databases, you can save the articles you want in a
temporary folder and when you are done searching you can “Direct Export to
RIS Format”
Open the downloaded file and they will appear in your EndNote library
PDF Import Function
Can import a single PDF or a folder of PDF files, but they require the correct
DOI
EndNote will retrieve all the bibliographic information for articles with
the correct DOI
Chinese documents do not have DOI, so they cannot be directly imported
For articles without automatically filled info, you can edit the reference and
manually key in the correct information, or you can find the document in
Google Scholar and import it into EndNote; then reattach the PDF file
within EndNote
Manually import references
Select the correct reference type and key in the information automatically
Can create different groups of references in EndNote
Can better organize types of references, language of references, topics of
references, etc.
Can use EndNote to find full texts, but need to authenticate with NTNU library
VPN, but there is no guarantee that EndNote can download all of the texts you
want
Do not download a lot of texts at the same time, or you will be blocked
from access to the database (try below 50)
Find duplicates option
Use this to see if there are duplicate files in your library, and then you can
delete one
Insert citations
Go to EndNote 20 option in the toolbar and press “Insert Citation”
Look up the keyword in the search bar and references from your library will
appear
You can also select a reference in the library and select “Insert Selected
Citation” from within word; the citation will be inserted in-text and at the
end of the document
Make sure you select APA 7 as the preferred style
When deleting citations, do not use backspace because the citations are
coded in EndNote; you should highlight it and click “Edit and Manage
Citations” and then you can remove it
You can also add pages into the reference through “Edit and Manage
