Future Trends in Computing
• Artificial Intelligence
• Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR)
• Internet of Things (IoT) & Smart Homes and Cities
• Edge Computing
Artificial Intelligence
• Artificial Intelligence in the future:
– Increased Automation
– Enhanced Decision-Making
– Human-AI Collaboration
In healthcare, AI-powered systems are being used to diagnose diseases, recommend treatments, and
personalize patient care. This is creating new opportunities for data scientists, medical AI specialists, and
healthcare professionals trained in working with AI tools.
In finance, AI is being used to detect fraud, predict market trends, and manage investments. This is creating
demand for AI-powered financial analysts, quantitative analysts, and robo-advisors.
In customer service, AI-powered chatbots are being used to answer customer questions and resolve issues.
This is freeing up human customer service representatives to handle more complex inquiries and build
deeper relationships with customers.
Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR)
• AR and VR are poised to transform various industries, from education and healthcare to
entertainment and manufacturing. Expect advancements in immersive experiences, haptic
feedback, and mixed reality technologies.
• AR brings digital elements into the real world through AR glasses or any other digital devices
rather than bringing a person into a virtual world.: Imagine seeing dinosaur skeletons
popping out of your living room floor or directions guiding you through a city block overlaid
on your phone screen. That's AR!
• VR is placing people into 3 dimension simulation experiences. It refers to a digitally simulated
experience that can either mimic reality or create a unique version of reality.
Internet of Things (IoT) & Smart Homes and Cities
• The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances, and
other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and connectivity that
allows these devices to collect and exchange data. For smart homes and cities, they are also
powered by IoT devices and intelligent systems.
— IoT involves connecting everyday devices to the internet, enabling data collection,
communication, and automated actions. This unlocks possibilities for remote monitoring,
resource optimization, and personalized experiences in homes and cities.
— Smart homes leverage IoT to automate lighting, temperature control, security systems,
and appliances, offering convenience, energy efficiency, and improved comfort.
— Smart cities utilize IoT sensors and networks to manage traffic flow, optimize energy
consumption, monitor air quality, and enhance public safety, aiming for efficient and
sustainable urban living..
Edge Computing
• Edge computing is a model of distributed computing that relocates computation and data storage
closer to data sources. In contrast, the typical cloud computing paradigm centralizes data and
processing in huge data centers.
• In the utilization of IoT, billions of devices will be interconnected, generating massive amounts of
data that needs to be processed and analyzed in real-time. Edge computing will bring processing
closer to the source, enabling faster and more efficient decision-making.
• The benefits:
– Reduced latency: Edge computing may significantly decrease application latency by
processing data locally. This is crucial for real-time responsive applications such as
autonomous vehicles and virtual reality.
– Improved bandwidth efficiency: Edge computing may reduce the amount of data that needs
to be transferred to the cloud, saving money on bandwidth.
– Enhanced security and privacy: By bringing data closer to the source, edge computing can
help to increase security and privacy.
