1. (a) The total mass of cotton harvested in Ali’s district was 17452.225kg. Round off
this number to the nearest.

2. (a) By using the substitution k = 3x solve for x in the equation 32x + 1 +32 = 3x + 3 + 32

3. (a) A box contains 7 red balls and 14 black balls. Two balls are drawn at random
without replacement.
(i) Find the probability that both are black
(ii) Find the probability that they are of the same colour
4. (a) Find the equation of the line passing through the midpoint of the points A (-3, 2)
and B (1, -4) and which is perpendicular to line AB.
(b)Given vector a = 4i – j, b = i + 3j and c = -2i – 3j. Find the value of
(i) V = a + 2b – 3c
(ii) Modulus of vector
(iii) The unit vector in the direction of vector V.
5. (a)What is the area the paper required to make a kite shown below?.

(b) The ratio of the corresponding sides of two similar polygons is 9:5. Mr Juma found
that the area of larger polygon is 129.6 cm2.Then he asked students to calculate the
area of the smaller polygon. One of the students obtained 100 cm2. Was he right?
6. (a) A tourist from USA wishes to exchange 10,000 US Dollars into Tanzanian
shillings.How much will he get if 1 US Dollar = 2,600 Tsh?
(b) A dealer sells mattresses whose buying price is directly proportional to the selling
price.If the selling price and the buying price of one mattress are Tshs 20,000 and
Tshs 18,000 respectively, find;
(i) the equation that relates the buying price and the selling price.
(ii) the new selling price when the buying price is increased by 15%.
7. (a) A damaged table costs T shs 20, 000 was sold at a loss of 15%.Find the loss made
and the selling price.
(b) Mr Tumbombili started business on 1st January 2020 with Tshs 5,000,000. In the
same month, the following transactions occurred:

8. (a) The sum of the first eleven terms of an arithmetic progression is 517.If its first
term is 7. Find the sum of the fourth and tenth terms.
(b) Mr Tamaambele invest 500,000 Pounds in a bank which provide an interest rate
of 3% compounded semiannual. Find the the;
(i) total amount he has after 6 years
(ii) Compound interest after 6 years.

9. (a) Madam Halima walks 500 m up the side of a hill. If she has climbed a vertical
distance of 300 m, find the horizontal distance through which she has travelled.
(b) A pendulum 30cm long swings to and fro through an angle of 20 0 to each side. How
high does the lower end of the pendulum? (see figure below)
10. (a) Factories the quadratic expression 3x2 -11x - 20 by splitting the middle term.
(b) Solve the equation 2x2 - 3x -5 = 0 by completing the square.

12. (a) A rectangular box with top PQRS and the base ABCD has AB = 12cm, BC = 5cm
and RC = 4m. Calculate;
(i) The length AR
(ii) The angle between AC and AR
(iii) The angle which plane SABR makes with the plane ABCD
(b) Boeing 787 Dream Liner flying at 500 km/h leaves Julius Nyerere International
Airport in Tanzania (70 S, 450 E) at 8: 00 am. When will it arrive at Addis Ababa in

(b) A certain school placed two orders with the stationery dealers. The first order was
of 50 boxes of marker pens and 20 boxes of correction fluid for the total amount of
40 000 Tanzanian shillings. The second order was 10 boxes of marker pens and
20 boxes of correction fluid for the total amount
of 24 000 Tanzanian shillings.
(i) Formulate a system of simultaneous equations.
(ii) Calculate the cost of a box of marker pens and a box of correction fluid
(use matrix method).

(ii) The air Tanzania Company wants to buy two types of airplanes, A and type A
requires 6 dam2 of parking space, type B requires 2 dam2 of parking space while
the company has 60 dam2 of parking space available. Also, the company has 480
billion shillings and the cost for buying airplanes of type A and type B are 20
billion shillings and 30 billion shillings respectively. Find the greatest number of
airplanes the company can buy.
