Lesson Plan in Mathematics (Grade 10)

Date: April 17, 2024

I. Objectives

At the end of the discussion, the students are expected to;

a. understand the definition and notation of conditional

probability;
b. solve problems involving conditional probability; and
c. express the use of conditional probability in real life situation.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Conditional Probability
Reference: Mathematics Grade 10 Learner’s Module pg. 346-350.
Materials: Visual aids, learning materials, and PPT.

III. Procedures
A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
The teacher asks one student to lead a prayer.
 Greetings
The teacher greets the students and inspires them to
learn.
 Checking of attendance
The teacher checks and records the attendance of the
students.
 Review
The teacher gives a short discussion in their previous
lesson about the independent and dependent probability
of events.
 Motivation
“Picture Analysis”
The teacher shows a picture to the class and let them
analyze what was in the picture.
TREE DIAGRAM Example:

- a way of organizing the information

of two or more probability events.

Lesson Proper
A. Activity
The teacher instructs the class to answer the given activity.
The students will be given 3 minute to answer.

B. Analysis

After the given activity, the teacher asks the following

questions:
a. How was the activity you have just done?
b. Are there difficulties while answering?

C. Abstraction
The teacher discusses the following concept.
Conditional Probability

-The likelihood of one event is influenced by whether another event

occurred.
-The probability of an event occurring based on a previous event
already taking place.

 In Calculating the Conditional Probability of events, use the formula

P ( A ∩B) P (B ∩ A)
P (A B) =
P( B)
OR P (B A) =
P( A )

EXAMPLE:
o A teacher gave two test to his students namely Math and English. 30%
of the students passed both the test and 40% of the students passed
the math test. What percent of those who passed the math test also
passed the english test?

Given:
Event A ( % of passing math test) = 40% or 0.40

Event B ( % of passing english test) = ?

P ( A ∩ B) = 30% or 0.30

Solution:
Conditional probability of B given A
P (B ∩ A)
P (B A) = P( A )
0.30
= 0.40

= 0.75 or 75%

D. Application:
Let the students answer the given problem.
Instruction: In your activity notebook, solve for the Conditional
Probability of events. Show your solution.

1. Teacher Clarisse gave her class 2 test. 25% of the class passed both tests
and 42% of the class passed the first test. What percent of those who passed
the first test also passed the second test?

2. The probability of a student passing in science is ⅘ and the of the student

passing in both science and maths is ½. What is the probability of that student
passing in maths knowing that he passed in science?

Evaluation:

The teacher conducts an assessment about the lesson.

Instruction: In your math notebook answer the given question.

 How conditional probability applied in real-life situations?

Explain and give at least 2 examples.

The town of Calbayog is

mapped on a coordinate grid
with the origin being at the
city
hall. Arya’s house is located
at the point (5, 7) and
Dave’s apartment is located
at (-5, 19).
What do you think is the
midpoint between Arya’s
hous
Assignment

The teacher instructs the students to do advance study for the next
topic.
