CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

TikTok apps is the application of social media that allows users to create watch

and share 15 seconds video shot mobile device or webcam. It is also have different

content that you want to allow. The TikTok apps also affect on written works of the

students because must they prioritized Using TikTok more than doing written works like

assignment, school project and other requirements.Tik Tok's addictive appeal and focus

on short, attention-grabbing content may reduce students. capacity for concentration,

making it difficult for them to focus on longer written compositions. Additionally, the

informal language and symbols typically employed on Tik Tok may impact students

writing style, resulting in a decline in grammar and spelling skills.

According to C. Diol the addiction of using TikTok can manage the time

management it also makes the laziness of the students.TikTok is a social network that

was first introduced in China in 2016 (as Douyin) and internationally in 2017. In 2018, it

was the most popular smartphone app in the United States and other nations, and it is

now available in more than 150 countries, with over 800 million monthly users. Through

careful analysis and think reflection, this research aims to add to the going on talks

surrounding technology integration in education, ultimately empowering students to

navigate the internet responsibly and achieve in academic efforts. With this research

would like to know the effects of tiktok app on student written works in Pigcawayan

National Senior High School TVL students.

Today's generation, a lot of people are using advanced technology to make their

life more easier and also for educational purposes like for their assignments or research

but some are using their cellphone for their own satisfaction, like use tiktok they are

getting addicted to it. Example of these using tiktok for are watching videos, post

advertisement, online shopping ,and many more we have conducted this research

because we are gonna show tha cause ang effect of this people that are still using tiktok

app.

According to A.M. Ostrovsky and J.R. Chen (2020)One of the most recent

platforms to surge to prominence has been TikTok, a social network with more than

45.6 million active users in the U.S.—with 63.5% being aged <29 years- where creators

post videos of themselves talking, dancing, or lip-syncing. With its unique “For You”

page, where the majority of viewed content is randomly selected rather than drawn from

a pool of “friends,” TikTok generates a wider and more diverse audience than the

traditional “follower”-based social media model. Videos are sorted into hashtags, with

search results directly sorted by likes received.

According to Yang (2020), when viewers "like" a video on Tiktok, they are

expressing their enthusiasm for the content, and if they leave a remark, they are

expressing their desire to connect and enhance one another's videos. Meanwhile,

Iodice and Papapicco's study (2021) demonstrates that they are theorizing a distinct

type of social impact, or "fun," that is characteristic of the social network and the period.

According to Jia (2017), as referenced by Liqian (2018), TikTok's contents come from all

walks of life, and diverse contents provide users with different experiences. For

example, funny content can entertain viewers, and users may desire to shoot the same
content to spread happiness to others. According to Xu (2019), the "Tik Tok" material is

quite dynamic, with a lot of online and offline activities aimed at young people with

imagination and curiosity. As a result, the uploader of TikTok's video receives fulfillment

from comments and replies.

According to Yuxin Yang(2020), this paper provides a general map in

understanding how young adults make meanings in the popular short-video platform Tik

Tok. To explore this process, two methodologies, walkthrough methods with the

unstructured interviews, were adopted to investigate user's motivations and interactions

as well as the capabilities of Tik Tok platform in mediating these practices. The study

found that while escapism and the mood-boosting are the main motives for users,

expressing the hidden self and socializing with friends were the subsidiary reasons. The

study also discovered that Tik Tok, as a platform that celebrates real human

experiences, stimulates users' creativity by designing simple and easy-to-operate user

interfaces and comprehensive and functional editing tools. In addition, several addictive

natures of the app design will be discussed as the probable causes of user addiction.

This research paper will start from introducing background information of Tik Tok and

relevant theoretical framework, to explaining the research questions of the study and

the methodologies adopted

Writing is one of the four essential skills in language learning and is a potent tool.

The writing process involves skills that are difficult to implement, such as reading,

thinking, and expressing thoughts (Ungan, 2007), Further, CERD (2002), and Rao

(2007), Walsh (2010) opined that writing strengthens students' exposure and

competency in learning, thinking, and reflecting, and that it is also used extensively in
higher education and the workplace. Writing skills influence the quality of work and how

people interpret professionalism. For school children, writing is indispensable because

they express everything in their writing. Besides speaking, writing seems to be the

world's only means of communicating one's feelings. It was noted that teachers respect

writing for academic excellence through the written exam, and the skill will help the

student throughout their adult life (Dukpa, 2000). Consequently, they ought to be

concise, legible, and well-set out so that the writing skills can help achieve accuracy.

According to Lipstein and Renninger (2007), students interested in writing are more

likely to create practical goals, apply valuable techniques, and seek feedback as they

work on writing tasks. Motivation has a significant influence on the growth of students

writing skills (Akyol & Aktaş, 2018). Furthermore, Ackerman (2006) emphasized the

importance of motivation in writing, indicating that if teachers exhibit their writing skills, it

will boost students' motivation in writing. The amount of time devoted to writing tasks

often affects the writing skills of students. A student who devotes a good deal of time to

writing can gain writing skills faster than someone who puts less time into it.

Social support refers to the perception of being cared for and having a network of

people to rely on, while upward social comparison involves comparing oneself to others

who are perceived to have superior qualities or achievements. These findings imply that

despite the social nature and comparative aspects of TikTok, neither seeking support

nor comparing one to others on the platform appeared to significantly influence users'

well-being
