Session: 2024 – 25
Standard: XII Subject: PHYSICS
SUMMER VACATION HOMEWORK

1. Three charges 4q, Q and q are in a straight line in the position of 0, l/2 and l respectively.
The resultant force on q will be zero, if Q :

(a) -q (b) -2q (c) -q/2 (d) 4q

2. A particle of mass 10-3kg and charge 5μC is thrown at a speed of 20m/s against a uniform
electric field of strength 2×105N/C. How much distance will it travel before coming to
rest momentarily?

3. Two point charges +5 x 10-19 C and +20 x 10-19 C are separated by a distance of 2m.
Find the point on the line joining them at which electric field intensity is zero.

4. A spherical conductor of radius 12 cm has a charge of 1.6 x 10 -7 C distributed

uniformly over its surface. What is the electric field (i) inside the sphere, (ii) just
outside the sphere, (iii) at a point 18 cm from the centre of the sphere?

5. Two charges q and 4q are placed at x = 0 and x = L along x-axis. Where should another
particle of charge q, be placed on x-axis, so that net force on charge at x = 0 becomes
zero?

(a) X = L/2 (b) X= 2L (c) X= -2L (d) X= -L/2

6. A charge of 8 mC is located at the origin. Calculate The work done in taking a small
charge of - 2 x 10-9 C from a point P (0, 0, 3 cm) to a point Q (0,4 cm, 0) via a point R
(0, 6 cm 9 cm).

7. A cube of side b has a charge q at each of its vertices. Determine the potential and
electric field due to this charge array at the centre of the cube.
8. The potential function of an electrostatic field is given by V = 2x 2. Determine the
electric field strength at the point (2m, 0, 3m).

9. Three point charges + 9, + 2q and Q are placed at the three vertices of an equilateral
triangle. Find the value of charge Q (in terms of q), so that electric potential energy of
the system is zero.
10. A right circular cylinder of length 20 cm and radius 5 cm has its centre at the origin
and its axis along the X-axis, so that one face is at x = +10 cm while other is at x=-10
cm.

(i) What is the net outward flux through each flat face?

(ii) What is the net outward flux through the cylinder?

(iii) What is the net charge inside the cylinder?
