Target Group
This manual is applicable to plant designers. The plant designer is required to meet the fol-
lowing requirements:

• Understand the working principle and operation method of the inverter.

• Be familiar with local standards and relevant safety regulations of electrical systems.

Main Content
This manual is to provide readers with an overview of how to use iSolarDesign.

iSolarDesign V3.0 is taken as an example for illustration in this manual, and fig-
ures are for reference only. The actual interface shall prevail.

3 Common Operations

3.1 Account Registration

This section introduces the registration process of an iSolarDesign account.


Prerequisites
The computer can access the network.
Procedure

Step 1 Enter https:// design.isolarcloud.com in the address bar of a browser. Press Enter to enter
the iSolarDesign login interface.

Step 2 Click in the upper right corner to switch the language.

Step 3 Click Register to enter the registration interface.

Step 4 Enter the email address and click Verification Code.

Step 5 Enter the verification code received in the mailbox.

The verification code is valid in 30 minutes. If it takes more than 30 minutes to


register an account, you need to register an account again.

Step 6 Enter the password twice, and then click Next.

Make sure that the password entered twice is the same and consists of at least 8
digits.

Step 7 Enter First Name and Last Name, select Country/Region and Time Zone, tick I have read
and agreed to Terms of Service, and click Register.

3.2 Login

This section introduces the steps for plant designers to log in to the iSolarDesign system.
Prerequisites

• The account and password are obtained.

• iSolarDesign works normally, and the computer can access the network.

Procedure

Step 1 Enter https:// design.isolarcloud.com in the address bar of a browser. Press Enter to enter
the iSolarDesign login interface.

Step 2 Click in the upper right corner to switch the language.

Step 3 Select the server address, enter the email address and password, and click Login. The
prompt box below may pop up.

Click Confirm to enter the 3.0 system, and click Enter the old system to enter the home
page of the 2.0 system. Tick Do not remind again and this box will not pop up later.

Users can select Remember Me as needed to facilitate the next login.

3.3 Logout

This section introduces the steps for plant designers to log out the iSolarDesign system.
Prerequisites

• Logged into the iSolarDesign system.

Procedure
Click Logout in the drop-down list of User Account in upper-right corner of the interface.

3.4 Reset Password

This section introduces how to retrieve the password if the plant designer forgets it.
Prerequisites

• Already have an account.

• iSolarDesign works normally, and the computer can access the network.

Procedure

Step 1 Enter https:// design.isolarcloud.com in the address bar of a browser. Press Enter to enter
the iSolarDesign login interface.

Step 2 Click Reset Password to go to the Account and Security interface.

Step 3 Enter an email address and click Next.

Step 4 Click Send Verification Code. Enter the verification code received in the mailbox and click
Next.

The verification code is valid in 30 minutes.

Step 5 Enter a new password and click Modify.

The new password must meet the following requirements:

1 The password consists of at least 8 digits.

2 The password contains at least one letter and one number.

Step 6 It is prompted that the modification is completed and the system automatically goes back to
the login interface.

The home page after a successful login is as follows.

5 Project List
After a successful login, users will go to the Item interface by default. Switching between
Card View and List View is supported.

5.1 Card View

Cards are listed in order of update time and can be filtered by the project status above.
A card contains the following contents:

• Project Name: The project name.

• Plant Type: It is divided into residential and commercial plants.

• Installed Power: The total power of the project.

• Project Address: The address of the project. Moving the cursor over the address can
view the detailed address information.

• Status: The status of the project. The project status includes Draft, Completed, Offered,
and Others. Click to update the project status.

If the project is in Draft status, the status cannot be switched.

• Designer: The creator of the project.

• Last Modified: The latest update time of the project.

The following operations can be performed on the card:

• Add to favorites/Remove from favorites: Click to Bookmark the project, and click
to Remove from favorites.

Click in the upper right corner of the interface to display all the
projects in the favorites in order of bookmarking time.

• Copy: Click to copy the data of the current project. The name of the copied project
defaults to "Project Name_Copy (1)".

• Download: Click to download the overview and layout of the project.

• Delete: Click “ → ” to delete the project.

• Create Plant: Click “ → ” to go to the iSolarCloud Web. Basic Plant


Information and Plant Location are filled in automatically. Fill in Owner Information
and click Creat Plant.

If the project is in Draft status, the plant cannot be created.

5.2 List View

Projects are listed in order of update time and can be filtered by the project status above.
The following contents are included:

• Project Name: The project name.

• Status: The status of the project. The project status includes Draft, Completed, Offered,
and Others. Click to update the project status.

If the project is in Draft status, the status cannot be switched.

• Street, City, Country, and Project Address: The address of the project. Moving the cur-
sor over the address can view the detailed address information.

• Client: The client name.

• Quantity of Device: The number of inverters in the project.

• Installed Power: The total power of the project.

• Designer: The creator of the project.

• Last Modified: The latest update time of the project.

• Operation: Copy, download, delete, and create plants. See "5.1 Card View" for details.

• User-defined Column: Click in the upper-right corner of the list. Tick the columns to
be displayed in the dialog box and click Confirm. Click Reset to restore the default list.

Project Name and Operation are fixed columns and cannot be ticked.

6 Project Creation
This section introduces how plant designers can create projects.
Prerequisites

• Logged into the iSolarDesign system.

• The computer can access the network.

6.1 Quick Design

• Log in as a visitor

Click Visitor Login on the login page to open the page for quick design.

• Log in with an account

Log in to your iSolarDesign account and click Create Project in the upper right corner of
the screen. Then, choose “Quick Design→Confirm” to go to open the page for quick
design.

The work flow of quick design and report output is shown below:

Step 1 Fill in the General Information about the project.

Parameter Description

Project Name* Project name defined by the user.

Area(m²)* The total area of the site where the PV modules are installed.

Project Address* The detailed location of the project.

Longitude(°)* Auto-filled with the longitude of the project location.

Latitude(°)* Auto-filled with the latitude of the project location.

Maximum ambient temperature at the site where the project


Max. Ambient(℃)*
is located. Range: 0 to 60.

Minimum ambient temperature at the site where the project


Min. Ambient(℃)*
is located. Range: -40 to 30.

Choose Residential or Commercial according to the actual

6.1.2 PV Module Configuration

You can proceed with the PV module configuration only after completing the project
information.

Step 1 Set the type of the PV module. You can select System Module or Customize Module.

Users who logged in as visitors for quick design can only select System Module.
In case the system module cannot meet your requirements, you can select Cus-

tomize Module and tap on the right to add a custom module. For details, see
"6.3 Custom Module".

Step 2 Select the manufacturer of the PV module from the drop-down list of Manufacturer, and the
model of the PV module from the drop-down list of Model. You can click to view the de-
tailed information about the module.

Step 3 Set the Module Quantity.

Step 4 Select the way in which the PV module is mounted in “Mounting Type”. You can choose
Flush Mount, Tilt, or Dual Tilt.

Set the Azimuth [°] and Tilt [°] if Tilt is selected.


Set the Ridge Direction and Relative Tilt if Dual Tilt is selected.

Step 5 (Optional) If there are multiple PV arrays at the site, you can click Add PV Array to add more
arrays. For parameter setting instructions, refer to Steps 2 to 4 in this section.

6.1.3 Electrical Design

You can proceed with the electrical design only after completing the PV module
configuration.

Step 1 Set the DC/AC Ratio.

Step 2 (Optional) Enable Configure Optimizer. Then, each one of the PV modules will be equipped
with an optimizer.

Step 3 (Optional) Enable Configure Battery. Then, set the Total Capacity(kWh) and Backup En-
ergy Storage Capacity(kWh).

Step 4 Choose Auto Design or Manual Design.

• Auto design: The system will recommend the suitable inverter model and the number of
PV modules in each string based on the information provided by the user.

• Manual design:

1 Click Add Device, and then set the Inverter Model, Quantity, and DC/AC/Ratio. If
Configure Optimizer, Configure RSD, or Configure Battery is enabled, set the pa-
rameters for the optimizer, RSD, or battery too.

2 Click to save the settings.

3 (Optional) If there are inverters of different models, click Add to add more devices.

4 After the device has been added, click Confirm.

5 Click the icon following each MPPT and set the Module Quantity for each input.

6.1.4 Generate Report

After completing the steps in "6.1.1 Project Information", "6.1.2 PV Module Configuration",
and "6.1.3 Electrical Design", click Save and Generate Report to generate a report.

6.2 Standard Design

Log in to your iSolarDesign account and click Create Project in the upper right corner of the
screen. Then, choose “Standard Design→Confirm” to open the page for standard design.

The work flow of standard design and report output is shown below:

6.2.1 Project Information

Novice Guide

The Novice Guide window will pop up once you open the page for Standard Design. You
can click Next and learn how to use these function modules. If Don't show this window
again is ticked, the Novice Guide box will no longer appear.

Step 1 Fill in General Information of the project.

Step 2 Fill in Ambient Temperature.

Parameter Name Description

The lowest/highest ambient temperature allowed at the project


location.
Min./Max.
After the project location is set, the minimum/maximum temperature

of the project location is automatically filled in, and the temperature
can be entered in the input box.

Irradiation Data, After filling in the address, click Irradiation Data, Wind Speed Data,
Wind Speed Data, and Temperature Data to see the estimated value of the data for
Temperature Data one year.

When bifacial modules are used, the light that is reflected to the
back of the module can also be absorbed, affecting the photocurrent
magnitude and the efficiency of the bifacial module.
Irradiance Factor
It is not ticked by default. If it is ticked, the factor is used to calculate
the DC power of the configured inverter. The factor can be defined
by users.

The ratio between solar radiation reflected by Earth's surface and


Surface solar radiation incident at the surface.
Reflectivity* The default value is 0.2, and the value ranges from 0 to 1,while 1 is
not included.

Parameters marked with * are mandatory.

Irradiation Data includes Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI), Diffuse Horizontal Irra-
dianc (DHI) and Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI).
Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) is the total amount of radiation received from
above by a surface horizontal to the ground. This value includes both Direct Nor-
mal Irradiance (DNI) and Diffuse Horizontal Irradiance (DHI). The calculation for-
mula is GHI = DHI + (cosθ x DNI). (θ is the angle of incidence of the beam (θ),
where 0° means the solar rays are perpendicular to the ground and 90° means
the solar rays are parallel to the ground.)

Step 3 Select Grid Type. Click to select the required grid type.

Step 4 (Optional) Fill in Load Information: The average annual power consumption.

Step 5 (Optional) Fill in Customer Information: Fill in the First Name, Last Name, and Company
of the customer to comment on this project.

Step 6 (Optional) Upload Attachment: Select a file or drag it into the attachment box to upload it.
The uploaded file can be downloaded to local.

Step 7 Click Next to finish the project configuration.

6.2.2 Uploading Map

If the roof image taken from the map does not assist the user in drawing the roof, the user
can upload the map for adjustment.

Before uploading the map, input the project address to determine the roof image.

Step 1 Click to upload the map. The interface is shown in the figure below.

Click in the upper left corner of the interface to enlarge the entire operation
area.
Click in the upper right corner of the interface to restore the interface to its ini-
tial state.

Step 2 Click Upload Image and select a local image.

Step 3 After uploading the map, place the two anchor points and on the current map and
the uploaded map at the same positions to mark the same coordinates.

Step 4 Click Confirm.

6.2.3 Plant Modeling

Use Plant Modeling to draw graphics on the selected pictures, including drawing the edges
of the roof and obstacles on the roof, adjusting the scale, removing the background, and
switching between 2D/3D, etc. The interface is shown below:

• : Select. Click to select a line segment or a point and drag and drop it.

– In 2D view, double-click a number to modify the line length.

– In 3D view, double click a number to modify the height of roof or obstacle.

– Hold Ctrl button and click to select a single point, a single line segment, a single ob-
stacles or to select them in batches in the drawing area.

• : Draw. Click to draw line segments on the picture. You can view the length and angle
of the current line segment in real time in the upper right corner of the interface.

• : Obstacle. Click to draw obstacles on the picture.

• : Scale. Click a line segment to modify the length, and the remaining line segments
and obstacles will be scaled accordingly.

• : Delete. Click to delete the selected object.

• : Background. Click to remove the background or keep the background.

• : Undo. Click to go back to the previous step.

• : Redo. Click to resume the undo step.

• : Zoom in. Click to enlarge the drawing area.

• : Restore. Click to restore to the initial state.


B. Drawing area
A 2D view of the project location is displayed by default. If you upload a map in Project Info,
the satellite map is displayed overlapping with the uploaded map according to the position-
ing points.
Map

• : Orientation, indicating the orientation of the current view. The view automatically ad-
justs to north up and south down when you click it.

• : 2D view. Click to switch to the 3D view.

• : 3D view. Click to switch to the 2D view.

• : Reset the view. Click to reset the orientation of the view, and place the drawing area
in the middle of the picture.

• : Zoom in. Click it or scroll the mouse wheel forward to zoom in the view.

• : Zoom out. Click it or scroll the mouse wheel back to zoom out the view.

• : Rotate the view. After clicking it, press and hold the left mouse button in the drawing
area to rotate the view.

• : Move horizontally. After clicking it, press and hold the left mouse button to move the
view.

• : Reset the height. In the 3D view, click to reset the height of all objects in the drawing
area.

6.2.4 Configure PV Modules

Configure PV Modules enables configuring modules on roofs by drawing in "6.2.3 Plant


Modeling".

Step 1 Fill in PV Panel Configuration.

• Set the type of the PV module. You can select System Module or Customize Module.

In case the system module cannot meet your requirements, you can select

Customize Module and tap on the right to add a custom module. For de-
tails, see "6.3 Custom Module".

• Click the drop-down list of Manufacturer and select the module manufacturer.

• Click the drop-down list of PV Model and select the module model.

• Tick Color.

Step 2 Fill in PV Array.

• Tick Mounting Type: Select Flush Mount, Tilt, or Dual Tilt based on the roof
orientation.

– Select Row Offset for Tile;

– Fill in Azimuth, Tilt Angle, Frame Size, and Altitude in the Tilt field;

– Fill in Ridge Direction and Relative Tilt in the Dual Tilt field.

• Set the module layout as Landscape or Portrait. Fill in the Column Spacing, Row
Spacing, and Distance from obstacles/line.

• Select Optimizer Model. Select SP600 if there is an optimizer. Select Please Select if
no optimizer needs to be configured.

Click in the upper left corner of the interface to add optimizers to the array.
Hold Ctrl and click to add an optimizer for a single module, and select a rectan-
gular region to add optimizers for multiple modules.

Step 3 Select the roof, click Arrange Manually to set the module installation location by selecting a
rectangular region. Click Arrange Automatically to fill the roof with modules.

When choosing Arrange Manually, click to draw a guide line to divide the roof
into different areas to for module configuration as shown above.

Step 4 Click Configure PV Modules, and then click Next.

6.2.5 Inverter and String Configuration

Step 1 Click ,select Recommended Inverter or Custom Inverter.

1 Recommended Inverter: It is the recommended inverter that can be fully or nearly fully
configured based on the project address, grid type, number of modules, and ambient
temperature. Tick the required inverter and click Confirm.

2 Custom Inverter: Click “ → ”, select Inverter Model, fill in


Quantity, DC/AC Ratio, and click Save.

DC/AC Ratio can be modified. Please be careful to set the DC/AC ratio. The
device may be damaged if the ratio exceeds the default value.

Step 2 There are two ways to configure a string: Automatic Stringing and Connect Manually.

1 Automatic Stringing: Click and select String Direction. The system automatically
configures the string. The interface is shown in the figure below.

2 Connect Manually: Select the inverter on the right, click to manually configure the
string by holding the left mouse button and dragging the mouse. If the line color turns
green, the string is successfully configured, as shown in the following figure:

If the number of modules exceeds the DC/AC ratio, is displayed in the in-
verter area, indicating that the current connection method is improper and the
string needs to be reconfigured.

Step 3 Select the inverter and click to select a position to place the inverter.

Step 4 (Optional)Select the hybrid inverter on the right and click to enter the Add Battery inter-
face. Click . Select the Inverter Model, No., and Battery Model, fill in the
battery quantity, and click Save.

Step 5 The configuration is finished.Click Next.

6.2.6 Cable Loss

Cable Loss contains both DC Side and AC Side cable loss. DC Side: The cable loss from
the module to the inverter. AC Side: The cable loss from the inverter to the meter.

The inverters displayed on the DC Side and AC Side interfaces are the inverter models
added in "6.2.5 Inverter and String Configuration". Select Cable Material, Sectional Area,
and enter Line Segment Length, and the Resistance, Voltage Drop, Power Loss, and
Cable Loss Rate of the cable are automatically calculated.

If is displayed on the status bar, the power loss is too high. It is recommended
to go back to the previous step to reconfigure.

Click Next.

6.2.7 Generate Report

On the Generate Report interface users can view the Overview and the Layout of the
project.

On the Overview interface users can view the General Information, Inverter, and Bill of
Materials (BOM) of the project. Click and to adjust the information display
sequence.
On the Layout interface users can view the Layout of the project and the Detailed Informa-
tion of the inverter.
Click Save and Download to download the Overview and the Layout as the PDF file to
local.

6.3 Custom Module

You can add a custom module if a module beyond those provided in the system is required.
Log in to the iSolarDesign system, and click Settings at the top of the screen to go to the
Customize Module page.

• Add one custom module

Click Add Module, set the parameters for the module, and click Confirm. The module
will then be added.

• Add custom modules in group

1 Click Download Template to download the template file to your local system, and fill
in the module information.

2 Click Import Template to import the template that carries the module information.
The modules will then be added.

• Delete one module

Click in the Action column to delete the corresponding module.

• Delete modules in group

Select modules of different models, and click Batch Delete to delete them in group.

• Edit module information

Click in the Action column to edit the information about the corresponding module.

• View module information

Click in the Action column to view the information about the corresponding module.

7 Feedback
Users can submit suggestions on the Feedback interface. Click to enter the correspond-
ing interface. Users can only view their own suggestions on this interface.

Add Feedback
Click to enter the Make Suggestions interface, as shown in the following
figure.

ment is optional. Click Submit.

At most 5 attachments can be uploaded, and each file should be no more than 5M.
Only PNG and JPG files are supported.

On this interface users can view the status and quantity of suggestions that have been sub-
mitted. The status includes All, Pending, Processing, Adopted, Implemented, and
Closed.
Click to delete the suggestion, while the administrator's reply will also be deleted.
Feedback Details

Click one of the suggestions to go to the Details interface. On this interface users can view
the Suggestion Type, Functions Involved, Description, and Attachment.
Click to reply to the customer service.

If there is no reply text, the user cannot reply to the customer service.

8 Personal Setting
Personal Setting consists of three functions: Basic Settings, Security Settings, and Data
Settings.
Basic Settings

On this interface users can modify the basic information of the account.
Security Settings

On this interface users can modify the email address, delete the account and change the
password.
Data Settings

On this interface users can modify the Temperature Unit, Decimal Separator, Unit of
Length, and Language. Click Save.

9 Messages

On this interface users can view system messages. The All tab is displayed by default.
Users can click Unread to view unread messages.
Click Mark All as Read to change the status of all unread messages to read.
