FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (First Revision) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized
by the Copper and Copper Alloys Sectional Committee had been approved by the Metallurgical Engineering
Division Council.
This standard was first published in 1988. While reviewing this standard, in the light of experience gained during
these years, the Committee decided to revise it to bring in line with the present manufacturing and trade practices
being followed in the country in this field.
In this revision following modifications have been made:
a) Requirements of oxygen free copper wire rods (OFC) have been added;
b) Packing clause has been modified as per customer’s requirements;
c) Wire rod up to 35 mm nominal diameter has been included;
d) Chemical composition (sulphur percent) have been modified for ETP grade;
e) Amendment 1 and 2 have been incorporated;
f) Title and scope have been modified;
g) 5.2 and 6.1 have been modified;
h) New clause on electrical properties has been added;
j) Requirement of oxide on rod surface has been added in 7.2;
k) Tolerances on dimensions have been revised in 6; and
m) Elongation percent for ETP grade has been modified.
The composition of the Committee and the Panel responsible for the formulation of this standard is given
at Annex A.
For the purpose of whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with the final value, observed or
calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960 ‘Rules
for rounding off numerical values ( revised )’. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value
should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
