Symptoms

On a Dell EMC Unity Upgrade, Sometimes one SP got upgraded to new code and other left with old code for any possible reason.
This KB is illustrating how to reimage the SP with the old code from the IR on the backend.

Cause

This is caused due to failure to upgrade the backend image of the SP (running on old code).

Error below is seen in the upgrade.log file:

=====================================Tasks===================================== 11:48 [ 4/6 ] Upgrade backup

cores config (local) 5 seconds Start at: Thu Feb 22 11:48:12 2018 Error : Failed to upgrade Image Repository: <failed to
mount /dev/mirrora1> <<<< Action: Escalate this issue through your support organization. Include the task manager log and all
output from this task in the escalation.

Resolution

*******This KB is to be done only by L2/Recovery Team*******

In the example below the array is being upgraded from 4.1.0.8959731 to 4.1.2.9257522

Having Root access on the Unity Array on either IPMI connection or SSH connection - See KB 484877:

a. On SP running old code mount the mirrora1 to /mnt/ir

mount /dev/mirrora1 /mnt/ir

b. There will be OS_tmp.tgz.bin and OS.tgz.bin in /mnt/ir

if we run OS.tgz.bin --showversion it will show the old version 4.1.0.x. Remove those binaries:

rm OS_tmp.tgz.bin OS.tgz.bin

c. On SP that is running new code, also mount the mirrora1 under /ir (create this directory if
it doesnt exist) then check the OS.tgz.bin --show version , it should be 4.1.2.x

d. Copy this new OS file from SP running new code to SP running old code SPB mirrora1

scp /ir/OS.tgz.bin peer:/mnt/ir

e. After copy completes verify md5sum and --showversion to make sure OS file was copied properly.

f. On SP that is running old version delete .version file from root partition and also from mirrora3:

rm /.verion

mount /dev/mirrora3 /mnt/ir

rm /mnt/ir/.version

g. Reboot the SP that is running old code:

svc_rescue_state -c; svc_shutdown -r

This will cause SP to get reimaged with new version. Please note that this might take up to an hour to complete
