Synopsis of the Technical Internship
Abstract: This project involves the simulation of an automatic street light system designed to manage
street lighting based on ambient light levels, time of day, and the presence of vehicles or pedestrians.
The simulation is a digital representation aimed at testing and observing the system's performance
under various conditions. By incorporating sensors and control algorithms, the system can
autonomously adjust the intensity or operation of street lights, thereby reducing energy consumption,
enhancing safety, and minimizing light pollution.

Introduction: The Automatic Street Light System is a smart lighting solution that utilizes Arduino
Uno microcontroller, IR(Infrared) sensor, LDR (Light Dependent Resistor), and LEDs to
automate the switching of street lights based on ambient light conditions and motion detection.
This report presents the design, implementation, and operation of an Automatic Street Light
System using the aforementioned components. The integration of an Arduino Uno, IR sensor,
LDR, and LEDs allows for real-time monitoring of ambient light levels and the presence of
moving objects.

Block Diagram & Flow Chart:

Objective/Aim:The main objective of this simulation is to showcase the effectiveness of intelligent

urban lighting systems that deliver illumination precisely when needed, promoting greater
sustainability and energy efficiency.

Methodology: The Automatic Street Light System operates by continuously measuring ambient
light intensity using an LDR. An IR sensor detects any motion within its range. The Arduino Uno
processes data from both sensors. If the ambient light level falls below a certain threshold and
motion is detected, the Arduino activates the LEDs, simulating street lights turning on.
Conversely, if the ambient light level rises above the threshold or no motion is detected, the
Arduino deactivates the LEDs, simulating street lights turning off.

Tools used (s/w): Arduino Uno , IR Sensor , LDR , LEDs, Resistors: 220ohm, 5k ohm,

Applications: The Automatic Street Light System has various applications. In urban street lighting,
it provides efficient and responsive illumination. In remote and rural areas, it ensures reliable lighting
without the need for manual intervention. .

Advantages:The Automatic Street Light System offers several advantages. It minimizes false
triggers by accurately detecting ambient light levels and motion. The system requires low
maintenance, ensuring reliable operation with minimal intervention. It can adapt to various
weather conditions, maintaining optimal performance in different environments.

Outcome: The Automatic Street Light System using Arduino Uno, IR sensor, LDR, and LEDs
demonstrates an efficient way to manage outdoor lighting based on ambient light levels and motion
detection.
