VII - Course Description:
The goal of this course is to reinforce information presented during course lectures by providing
students "hands-on" opportunities to explore the concepts and principles of physics taught in the
Physics 1 course through the following experimental works:
• Determination of the acceleration due to gravity by using a simple pendulum, moment of inertia
of a fly wheel about its axis of rotation, temperature coefficient of the material of a wire.
• Study of projectile motion and collision.
• Verification of Newton’s second law of motion, Ohms law of resistance, equivalent resistance for
series and parallel connections.
• Construction of RC circuit, and determination of RC time constant.
• Observe the DC and AC signals in a cathode ray oscilloscope and to determine the frequencies of
AC signals.

XVI – Teaching Method
Maximum experiments will be covered from the reference book. For the rest of the experiments, lab
manual will be followed. The lab manual will be uploaded on the web. White board or multimedia
projector or both will be used for the convenience of the students.
Students must prepare the theory of the experiment before coming to the class. Just being present in the
PHY 1102: PHYSICS-1 Lab 6
class is not enough- each student must participate in all the experiments.
