Please answer the following questions.

Question 1 (5 marks)
Identify the level of measurement (nominal/ordinal/interval/ratio) and the type of variable
(qualitative/quantitative discrete/quantitative continuous) for each of the statements below.
a) The temperature in Alor Setar, Kedah is at 12.00pm on any given day.
b) The number of mangoes sold at Izi Mart in a week.
c) The type of book read by kindergarten children.
d) The overall satisfaction rating of a new car.
e) The revision time of 10 students for an examination.

Question 2 (3 marks)
Give a suitable term for each of the following processes.
a) This method of collecting data is very useful in social surveys to evaluate people’s
attitudes and motives.
b) This study is done before the actual survey. The aim is to identify the difficulties that
may arise during the actual survey.
c) It is possible to measure a variable for every unit in the population if the population is
small.

Question 3 (9 marks)
A researcher is interested in investigating the employee satisfaction level on the new health
working policy of ABC Company. A random sample of 50 employees will be selected
from four different departments. The number of employees in each department is as
follows.

b) Identify the variable of interest for the study.
c) Suggest a suitable sampling technique for the study. Explain the procedure of the

in the study.
Question 4 (15 marks)
The data below shows the number of hazardous waste sites in each of the 20 areas in
Malaysia.

a) Find the mean and standard deviation for the above data.
b) Calculate the median, first and third quartiles for the above data.
c) Construct a box and whisker plot.

Question 5 (18 marks)


a) The table below provides information on frequency distribution for the marks obtained by
60 students in Statistics quiz. The full mark for this quiz is 30 marks.

i. Construct a “less than ogive” for the above data.


ii. By using ogive in (a), determine the median value of the data.
iii. Find the mean and standard deviation of the data. Interpret the value of mean.
iv. Compute the Pearson Coefficient of Skewness of the data and interpret the
value of obtained.

b) XYZ Chemical Company sells two types of raw chemical materials. The average and
variance of the selling data in terms of weight (in kilogram) of each raw chemical
material is shown in the table below.
