Chapter 07 Class 5th ELECTRICTY AND MAGNATISM

 Q12. What are called insulators?

 Ans. The materials which do not allow the flow of current through them are
called insulators. E.g., wood, plastic
 Q13. Why fuse is used?
 Ans. A fuse is used in electric circuit for safety.
 Q14. How a magnet is prepared?
 Ans. iron, nickel and cobalt are used to make magnet
 Q15. In which direction a bar magnet stay?
 Ans. A freely suspended magnet always stays in the north-south direction.
 Q16. What are magnetic poles?
 Ans. The ends of a magnet are called the magnetic poles.
 Q17. What is earth about magnet?
 Ans. The Earth behaves as a huge bar magnet.
 Q18. What us the use of magnetic compass?
 Ans. A magnetic compass is used to find directions accurately.
 Q19. what is electro magnet?
 Ans. If current is passed through a coil around iron rod, the rod behaves a
magnet. It is known as an electromagnet. It is a temporary magnet.
 Constructed Response Questions
 Q20. Two ring magnets are shown on a wooden stand. The upper magnet
rises up and is suspended in air as shown in the figure.
 Q20 A. Why does the upper magnet float in the air?
 Ans. like poles of magnets repel to each other so the upper magnet suspended in
the air
 Q20 B. Label the N and S-poles of the magnets.
 Q21.There is a bar magnet without any indication. How will you identify its
south pole?
 Ans. To identify the south pole of a bar magnet without indication, use a compass.
The end pointing towards the compass's north is the magnet's south pole.
 Q22.There are three similar metal bars. One is a magnet, the second is iron
and third bar is of aluminium. How would you identify?
 Ans. Use a compass. The bar that affects the compass needle is the magnet. Iron
bar will attach with magnet. Aluminium will show no affect.
 Q23. A plastic comb charged with a woollen cloth is touched with an iron
key. What do you observe? Give an example of similar phenomenon in daily
life.
 Ans. Iron key becomes charged and attract small objects like paper or hair.
 When a balloon is charged by woollen cloth it stuck with a wall because both
have opposite charges
 Q24. You are provided bar magnet, paper pins, glass, plastic, aluminium,
steel plates and a wooden board. Investigate which material allows magnetic
attraction to pass through it?

1
 Ans. Placed paper pins, glass, plastic, aluminium and steel plates on
wooden board. Tested with bar magnet. Steel showed magnetic attraction only.
