8088 V2 Upgrade Process

Android OS package size is higher than 350MB. The tftp server is not able to download files higher than 90MB
through TFTP protocol.
To overcome this, HTTP protocol is used.

There are 2 main ways to upgrade the phone

1) Via OXO

1.1) NOE
1.2) Cloud

2) Via Phone

2.1) Http protocol (Server or Cloud)


2.2) USB

It will be used to upgrade phone in almost all scenarios

Where XXXXX and YYYYYY are latest binary/ Android OS package path

1) OXO

On the OXO there are a few arguments that will have to be checked

•State of auto upgrade in system miscellaneous (should be either 0 or >0)

1.1) LOCAL HTTP

For local HTTP server, follow TC2461: Deployment Guide for Smart DeskPhone 8088 NOE with Windows Server 2016
Download file from cloud to be uploaded to HTTP server is :
http://8088-noe-project.al-enterprise.com/ale_tx/8088/deliveries/XXXXXX/YYYYYYYY.zip (TC2347)
On the HTTP server, the directory structure must be identical to that of the download URL. Copy the folder /8088/
under the <BASE_HTTP> in the directory structure of the HTTP server where <BASE_HTTP> = http://Local Server/NOE

Local HTTP Server URL as Android Upgrade URL:

1.2) Cloud
If external HTTP server (CLOUD) ensure :
Network access
internet connection
DNS
If Static IP configured on phone
If Alcatel Dynamic IPconfigured on OXO
Proxy (if needed)
Cloud URL as Android Upgrade URL: http://8088-noe-project.al-enterprise.com/ale_tx/8088/deliveries/XXXXXX/

The Phone will auto upgrade after saving

If proxy is required for internet access, the proxy settings must be


configured on the set:
1. From the set home page, press the Settings menu
2. Press Admin and enter the administrator password
3. Go to: Network > Proxy
4. Enter the proxy name and port

IMPORTANT NOTE:
After upgrade has been completed, Remove the “android upgrade URL”, otherwise the set will stay in the version
and will not upgrade to newer versions

2)Phone

2.1) Phone (via cloud/Local HTTP)

If force upgrade Directly on Phone needed (internet connection Needed)


Allow telnet control to phone via webdiag
Connect to Phone Via telnet/ssh (putty)
Login as : admin
Password (default): *tx8000#
Use command “dwl seturl” Followed by URL (either Local or Cloud)
dwl seturl http://8088-noe-project.al-enterprise.com/ale_tx/8088/patches/5.04.93/8088_ota_5.04.93.zip
dwl seturl http:// Local Server/NOE

press Enter, This will launch Download on Phone

NB: Notice that the URL path is different in Phone VS OXO URL.
This is because directly on the Phone the direct OTA file path is needed.( Patch file). If delivery File is chosen , the file
will start to download, but will FAIL.

Ensure USB is formatted in FAT32

Create Text File at root and Name “ALE8088Commands”. DO NOT add Extention .TXT at the end (save without file
extension)

Modify txt file as follows


1st line = admin password = “*tx8000#”
2nd line = command line = “update”

Go to <<Download FILE>>\http\8088\patches\X.XX.XX , and copy ZIP File “8088_OTA_XXXXX”

Paste File “8088_OTA_XXXXX” to USB root and save as “update.zip”

Plug USB in phone to start upgrade

Helpful Pointers

Upgrade logs

To be able to follow if the Phone is upgrading , it is possible to launch the Command “logcat | grep -i
ALEUpgradeService”.
It will allow an overview of what the phone is doing with regard to the upgrade
Best used when opened in separate SSH window in parallel to main window.

Dwl commands

Dwl command has 3 different options


[upgrade <on|off>]  force upgrade state of phone to on or off (same as -1, 0, >0 , in OXO)
[seturl <force_upgrade_url>]  provide URL to force upgrade
[config]  Show version currently on phone

Other commands
It is possible to do basic network commands directly on phone such as
ping

Traceroute

These can be very helpful to test proper DNS resolution, internet connectivity and proxy configurations.

Once Upgraded, an 8088v2 CANNOT be downgraded
