Job Description

1. JOB DETAILS:

Position Title: PROCESS ENGINEER

Reports to: HEAD OF PROCESS ENGINEERING

Department: TECHNICAL

2. JOB PURPOSE:

Monitor, analyse and make recommendations for the improvement of operational performance of relevant
QAFAC operational assets by conducting technical audits of plant, providing process engineering supports
and optimising the Operations activities in QAFAC and make recommendations for renovation or replacement
of equipment in the MTBE, MeOH & Utility complex.

4. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Process Engineering support :

5. COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:


Internal:

 Technical Department personnel on an ad hoc basis to ensure the latest design codes, drawings, calculation
methods, other technical support as required for minor modifications & conceptual design
 Supply Chain personnel on ad hoc basis for technical evaluation of material bids required for the operation of the
plant (mainly catalyst, chemicals, resins, ceramic balls, etc.)
External:
 QP, QAFCO and other related plant Engineers for discussing and solving technical matters.
 Process Licensors, OEMs and vendors on as needed basis

6. FRAMEWORKS, BOUNDARIES, & DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:


 The jobholder is accountable for ensuring that opportunities are identified and realised for improving efficiencies
and reducing costs through the optimum operational activities.
 All recommendations are discussed with Senior Process Engineering staff before being accepted / or being put
forward formally for approval by Senior Production Manager for adoptions.
 Engineering work to overhaul or replace non-performing equipment must be approved by the Plant Managers and
Senior Production Manager and other top management as required

7. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:


Minimum Qualifications:
 University degree in Chemical Engineering.
Minimum Experience:
 8 years’ relevant operational/design experience in a world scale petrochemical environment, preferably MTBE,
Methanol and/or Ammonia and Power plant.
 Knowledge of basic design (process engineering calculations, technical audits), process simulation (HYSIS,
ProVision, etc), process and equipment troubleshooting.
Required Skills:
 Broad understanding of all QAFAC operations and maintenance processes.
 Expert understanding of equipment performance testing techniques and theory.
 Expert understanding of environmental testing protocols and techniques.
 Detailed understanding of plant/equipment specifications.
 Process simulation
