HOW TO USE THIS COMPETENCY-BASED
LEARNING MATERIAL
WELCOME to the unit of competency, “FABRICATE, INSTALL AND
REMOVE WOODEN FORMWORKS”, is one of the competencies of Core
Competency, CARPENTRY NCII, a course which comprises the knowledge,
skills and attitude required for a TVET training possesses.

The module, FABRICATE, INSTALL AND REMOVE WOODEN


FORMWORKS, contains training materials and activities related to Lay-out
and cut sheathing and stiffeners for to complete.

In this module, you are required to go through a series of learning


activities in order to complete each learning outcome. In each learning
outcome are Information Sheets, Self-Checks, Task Sheets and Job
Sheets. Follow and perform the activities on your own. If you have
questions, do not hesitate to ask for assistance from your facilitator.

Remember to:
 Read information sheets and complete self-checks. Suggested
references are including supplementing the materials provided
in this module.
 Perform the Task Sheets and Job Sheets until you are confident
that your output conforms to the Performance Criteria checklist
that follows the sheets.
 Submit your Task Sheets and Job Sheets to your facilitator for
evaluation and recording in the Accomplishment Chart.
Outputs shall serve as your portfolio during the Institutional
Competency Evaluation. When you feel confident that you have
had sufficient practice, ask your trainer to evaluate you. The
results of your assessment will record in your Progress Chart
and Accomplishment Chart.

You must pass the Institutional Competency Evaluation for this


competency before moving to another competency. A Certificate of
Achievement will award to you after passing the evaluation.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

You may already have some or most of the knowledge and skill covered in
this module because you have;

 Been working for sometime


 Already completed training in this area

If you can demonstrate to your teacher that you are competent in a


particular skill or skills, talked to him about having them formally
recognized so don’t have to do the same training again. If you have a
qualification or certificate of competency from previous training show it to
your teacher. If the skill you acquired are still current and relevant module,
they may become part of the evidence you can present for Recognition of
Prior Learning (RPL). If you are not sure about the currently of your skill,
discuss with your trainer.

After completion this module ask your teacher to assess your


competency. Result of your assessment will be recorded in your competency
profile. All the learning activities are designed for you to complete at your
own pace.

Inside this module you will find the activities for you to complete followed
by relevant information sheet each learning outcome. Each learning
outcome may have more than learning activity.

WOODEN FORMWORK
MODULE TITLE: FABRICATING, INSTALL AND REMOVE
WOODEN FORMWORK
INTRODUCTION:
This module covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes in
Fabricating, install and remove wooden formwork. It includes preparing
materials, tools and equipment, lay-out and cut dimension of form
sheathing and stiffeners, assemble and erect form panels and components,
erect wooden scaffolds, strip form panels and dismantle scaffolds and clean
and store reusable form panels and components.

NOMINAL DURATION: 35 hours

QUALIFICATION LEVEL: NCII

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of this module you MUST be able to:
LO1 Prepare materials, tools and equipment
LO2 Lay out and cut dimension of form sheathing and stiffeners
LO3 Assemble and erect form panels and components
LO4 Erect wooden scaffolds
LO5 Strip form panels and dismantle scaffold.
LO6 Clean and restore reusable form panels and components.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with rule
1080 of OSH standard
2. Secure and follow list of material, hand tools and equipment
according to job requirements
3. Select, inspect and prepare materials, tools and equipment
consistent with job requirements

4. Clean work area according to safety and environmental regulations
(e.g. PD 1152 SECTION 6,8& 42
5. Complete required output as specified by the immediate supervise
base on schedule
6. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with
rule 1080 0f OSH standards.
7. Measure and mark form sheathing and stiffeners according to
job requirements
8. Lay and cut form sheathing and stiffeners according to job
requirements
9. Clean work area according to safety and environmental
regulations (e.g. PD 1152 Section 6,8 & 42)
10. Complete required output as specified by the immediate
supervisor based on work schedule
11. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with rule
1080 0f OSH standards.
12. Position and fix sheathing to stiffeners
13. Check assemble form panels for squareness, levelness, plumbness
and alignment
14. Positon and fix primary and secondary support to hold assemble
form panels as per drawing
15. Check assemble form panel for compliance with job requirements
16. Clean work area according to safety and environmental
regulations (e.g. PD 1152 Section 6, 8 & 42)
17. Complete required output as specified by the immediate
supervisor based on work schedule
18. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with rule
1080 0f OSH standards.
19. Prepare, place, space soleplates/timber planks accordingly
considering ground surface condition based on design requirement
20. Erect, plumb and level wooden scaffold components based on
design requirements
21. Check wooden scaffolds system based on design requirements
22. Install lifeline for fall protection devices (harness) in accordance
with specification and OSHS requirements
23. Clean work area according to safety and environmental
regulations (e.g. PD 1152 Section 6, 8 & 42)
24. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with rule
1080 0f OSH standards.
25. Prepare tools, equipment and staging

31.Recover and stockpile materials such as scaffolding and formworks
