1a) Christian Religious Education

 It is the study of God’s self revelation to human beings through the person of Jesus
Christ, scriptures and the Holy Spirit
b) Explain importance of learning Christian religious education
 It makes students appreciate their Traditional African cultural heritage
 It promotes international co-operation regardless of people’s gender, tribe e.t.c.
 It equips learners with spiritual knowledge enabling them make right decisions in life
 It enables the student pursue careers e.g. law, clergy, teaching e.t.c.

In the 19th C, the missionaries who came to Kenya translated the English version into Kiswahili

Effects of Bible translation:

 Development of local languages
 Local people could read the Bible in their own languages
 The word of God reached more people in their own languages

 It led to the establishment of more schools to cater for the growing

 Led to formation of independent churches as Africans could read and interpret the
Bible.
 Africans became more actively involved in the church.
 Africans began exercising leadership in the churches
 Africans became critical of certain issues preached by missionaries e.g. equality,
love, monogamy e.t.c
 It led to mass evangelism – more Africans became Christians.
 There was demand for more Bibles leading to establishment of local printing presses.
 Missionaries began to appreciate the African culture, thus reducing suspicion
between parties.
 Africans rediscovered their own cultural identify e.g. dancing styles, local languages,
musical instruments e.t.c.
 Africans understood themselves better and became more aware of their own human
dignity.
 It led to the establishment of Bible translation societies e.g. Bible society of Kenya.

Five literacy forms used by the authors of the Bible are;-

 The use of narratives /prose form e.g. Genesis
 Religious epics e.g. Exodus
 Legal expressions/legislative texts e.g. Leviticus
 Prophetic speeches e.g. Jeremiah
 The use of prayers e.g. Nehemiah
 The use of poetic devices e.g. psalm

Give seven differences between the first and the second account of creation(7mks)
(i)In the first account, there is creation of the firmament (heavens) light, sun, moon,
stars, fish and creatures which is not indicated in the second account.
(ii)In the first account, Adam and Eve were created at the same time in God’s image,
while in the second account, man is created first from dust.
(iii)In the first account, days are mentioned while in the second account, there is no
mention of days.
(iv)In the first account, the seventh day is considered holy hence a day of rest, while in
the second account no rest is indicated.
(v)In the first account God commanded things and were formed while in the
second account, God worked for example he formed man out of dust.
(vi)In the first account marriage is for procreation an din the second account,
Emphasis is a companionship.
(vii) In the second account a garden of Eden is mentioned, while it is not in 1st creation
account.
(vii)In the first account, God give names to the creatures while the second account,

man is given the responsibility to name the animals.

(ix)In the second account, God breathes into man’s nostrils while in the second
account this is not indicated. (Any 7 points 1mk)

Consequences of sin (6mks)

(i)Sin led to adhesion of the human race from God
(ii)Cordial and mutual relationship between Adam and Eve was damaged
(iii)Death came into being
(iv)Lifespan of man was reduced
(v)Sin led to confusion in the language of human beings
(vi)Child birth and work became associated with hardship
(vii)Man changed and became prone to sin
(viii)The ground was cursed on the account of man’s sin hence he had to sweat to
eat.
(ix)Man was driven off from the garden of Eden.
(x)The serpent was cursed by God & was to move on its belly, eat dust and its
head to
be crushed by the descendants of man. (Any 6 points 1mk

Seven ways in which wrong doers were punished in African society

(7mks)
(i) Wrongdoers were made to pay heavy fines
(ii) The person was excommunicated from the society.
(iii) Not being given a decent Burial
(iv) Not being named after death
(v) Naming/ reprimanding / healings would be administered on the wrong
doer
(vi) Death through public stoning would be administered
(vii) Ridiculed in songs and proverbs
(viii) Excluding such person from community’s

The meaning of the expression the Bible is the Word of God’

(i) The Bible was inspired by God
(ii) The authors of the Bible wrote under the influence of the Holy Spirit
(iii) The bible deals with God’s revelation to human beings and their responses.
(iv) The Bible contains the true message of God for daily living
(v) God wrote the Ten Commandments on the stone tablets.
(vi) The Bible is the revealed word of God/God reveals Himself to us through His
activity in the Old Testament and in the Holy Spirit in the Church today.
Promises that God made to Abraham
 Abraham would be the father of a great nation/many descendants/many children
 Abraham would receive personal blessings-will die in peace
 Abraham will receive honour /he will have many descendants.
