At the second cycle in teaching writing descriptive text using
clustering technique, the average score of the students 70, 72
with student’s pass 70%. It is illustrated a table at cycle II:
After looking at the table, the highest score at cycle II 89, the
lowest sore 50, and the average score of the students 70, 72
with students pass 70%. The score distribution of cycle II can
be seeing at table 10.
Kekuatan Penelitian there are clear research methods and research steps
in describing the research steps or the results of research
using a table so that it can make it easier for us to understand
and look more presentable
in the study using several trial processes so as to strengthen
the results of research accurately
Kelemahan Penelitian because the journal is described in English, it makes it difficult for

the reader to understand the research because there are foreign
languages that are not understood
Kesimpulan Referring to the discussion of the research findings on the previous
chapter, the researcher come to these following conclusions.
1. Clustering technique can increase students’ descriptive text
writing ability. Clustering can create situation of the class alive. The
students are involved in the teaching learning process since the
material given has correlated to their daily activities. It makes them
easier to understand the material.
2. Clustering technique can improve teacher’s performance.
Clustering helps teacher develop aspects that are needed in the
process of teaching such as pre writing, drafting writing, and
revising writing.
3. Clustering technique can improve students’ participation. It is
approved by the result of questionnaires that 90-100 % students were
achieving during teaching learning process. Clustering technique
applies learning community that makes students more active.
Saran Referring to the data in the previous chapter and the conclusions,
some suggestion are recommended
1. Considering the advantages of clustering technique, it is suggested
that the English teacher of the class apply clustering technique as an
alternative way in teaching descriptive text. It is supported by the
result finding that clustering technique not only help teacher improve
the students’ descriptive text writing ability but also teacher’s
performance and students’ participation.
2. The teacher should reinforce the students about correct grammar
especially present tense. She should reinforce them to do more
frequently practice in using present tense, especially in writing
descriptive text.
3. The teacher is expected to be motivate the students in order to be
exited in learning English since many students regard English
subject is difficult to learn. Based on the informal interview with
some students in the outside of the class, many students said that
they did not like learning English because it was difficult to

understand.
4. The last but not least, the teacher should monitor the students well
while do their works since there is a chance for those who lazy to
cheat their friends’ work.
Tujuan Penelitian The purpose of this research is to reveal common grammatical errors
in writing narrative essay of English Study Program at Jambi
University
Subjek Penelitian The population and sample of this research were the third semester
students at English Study Program of Jambi University in essay
writing class. This research was focused on English study program’s
students’ in faculty of teacher training and education
Metode Penelitian This research was designed in the form of qualitative research,
especially in descriptive method. The method was intended to
describe exactly a phenomenon or problem that researcher had seen.
It meant that the researcher would like to investigate the use of
simple present tense and to identify the grammatical errors in using
simple present tense in students’ descriptive text writing based on
surface strategy taxonomy. In this way the researcher collected the
data from the students’ descriptive text writing and investigated
them whether the students used correct simple present tense or error,
and identified the errors based on surface strategy taxonomy in order
to conclude the result.
Langkah Penelitian The writer uses test that consist of 25 items to measure the students
oral speaking ability and questionnaires to test student’s
selfconfidence.
Hasil Penelitian It can be assumed that their first language influenced students. Some
of them made this error by wrote the words by its sound. The other
students made error of spelling by added an inappropriate letter or
omitted the appropriate letter. It can be concluded that the students
made errors by mistype or lack of concentration. After that,
preposition error also occurred in students’ essay. There are many
prepositions in English, and sometimes it has similar meaning. In
this case, students put incorrect preposition on their sentence or they

omitted the preposition.
Kekuatan Penelitian In our opinion, the strengths of this journal are seen from the
presentation of material that is so systematic and easy to understand.
The author also wrote the systematic research so clearly. from the
aspect of fonts and writing it is also neat and attractive. The method
that use in the second journal is already good In the method, the
researcher also give the formula of error percentage, so the reader
can know about the percentage
Kelemahan Penelitian The researcher use many theories. And There are so many
explaining so it can make the reader bored to read the journal. The

Kesimpulan English Department students of Jambi University also made errors in
Penelitian writing narrative essay. First the students made 303 (50.58%) errors
in verb-tense. It was the highest number of error in this research.
Second, punctuation took place as the second highest number after
verb-tense. There were 76 errors in punctuation or 12.68%. Third is
capital letters error,there were 50 errors (8.34%) that happened in
this research. Next, word choice came with 43 errors or 7.17%.
Spelling error also occurred in this research and it has 38 error or
6.34%. After that preposition error occurred with 21 errors or 3.50%.
Pronoun error happened in this research with 18 errors (3.00%).
Next, pluralism error came with 16 errors or 2.34%. Redundancy
error occurred with 14 errors or 2.33%. Next, in this research word
order error happened with 8 errors or 1.33%. Last, there were
possessive case and article errors that happened in this research.
Each of them has the same number in frequency and percentage.
Possessive case error has 6 errors (1.00%) and article error also has 6
errors or 1.00%, and these two points became the smallest number of
error in this research.
