1. Communication: Mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets, enable instant
and convenient communication through various means. Mobile apps such as text
messaging, voice calling, video calling, and social media platforms allow us to
connect with others anytime, anywhere. Mobile communication has made it easier to
stay in touch with family and friends.

and entertainment to our fingerprints. Apps like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and
Tiktok provide platforms for social interaction, content sharing, and entertainment.
Additionally, streaming apps for music, videos, movies, and TV shows offer on
demand entertainment options, making it easier to consume media on mobile devices.
Mobile communication and apps have revolutionized the way we interact, access information,
and engage with the world. They have increased connectivity, convenience, and personalization,
empowering individuals to stay connected, informed, and entertained wherever they go. As
technology continues to advance, mobile communication and apps will continue to evolve,
providing even more innovative and seamless experiences.

1. Sharing and Expression: Social media platforms provide users with a space to share
their thoughts, ideas, experiences, photos, videos, and other forms of content. This
has empowered individuals to express themselves, showcase their creativity and share
their perspectives with a global audience.
2. Information and News: Social media has become a significant source of information
and news for many people. Users can follow news outlets, journalists, and influencers
to receive updates on current events, trends, and other topics of interests. However,
it’s important to be mindful of the potential of misinformation and the need to verify
sources.
3. Business and marketing: Social media platforms have transformed the way
businesses and brands engage with their customers. These platforms offer powerful
tools for marketing, advertising, and customer engagement. Companies can build
brand awareness, target specific audiences, and gather insights through analytics,
enabling them to tailor their products and services to customer preference.
The emergence of social media platforms has fundamentally changed the way we communicate,
share information, and engage with others. It has created opportunities for connection,

While talking about characteristics of social media, we will discuss some of them here:
1. Web Space: The social media platforms should provide the users free web space to
upload content. People can create their own blogs, write a post or post a video/photo
about their experiences.
2. Connect with friends: When users post personal or professional updates about
themselves, this way stay connected with their friends and family. They could show
their feeling through liking the post or not or commenting on it.
3. Enable conservation: Users are given the right to comment on posts made by friends
and family. They could also chat in privately. Conservations are a great social
connect.
4. Entertainment: User can get entertained through millions and billions of content
uploaded on the platform. The content is so diverse that you can find content related
to any specific field or genre.

Communication in the internet and social media age
1. Facebook: Facebook, launched in 2004, is the largest social networking site, with nearly
3 billion people using it monthly. More than 200 million businesses use Facebook tools
and promote their business on Facebook. It is easy to get started on Facebook because
almost all content formats work great on it-text, images, videos, and stories.
2. YouTube: YouTube was launched in 2005, one year after the Facebook but it was the
first video streaming social media platform which is one of the factors for its dominance
in the market. It has around 2.2 billion monthly active users. Despite being only video
sharing platform, YouTube covers all genres from gaming to education, beauty to music.
This is the platform for most brands to invest in, with video being the growing medium
for content marketing.
3. WhatsApp: WhatsApp, launched in 2009, remains the most popular social messaging
app, despite almost every social media platform provide this facility. But with WhatsApp,
it is the simplicity of platform and privacy that is provided by it. Around 2 billion people
are active monthly on this platform. Before, it was only used for conservation between
friends and family but as time passes WhatsApp introduced different social apps for
business to facilitate themselves with this platform one of which is WhatsApp Business
App.
4. TikTok: Despite launched in 2016, TikTok thrived like no other social media platform
and that was because of its short form videos content. TikTok allows users to create and
share videos between 15 to 60 seconds long and app has a vast catalog of sound effects,
and filters to enhance videos and make them more appealing.
The rise of social media is an extraordinary example of how quickly and drastically social
behaviors can change. Something that is today part of the everyday life of one-third of the world
population was unthinkable less than a generation ago. But it should be kept in mind that it is in
our hands how we use these platforms and influence others.

multiple recipients simultaneously. Its asynchronous nature permits flexibility, as
recipients can read and respond at their convenience. Moreover, email provides a written
record of conversations, aiding in documentation and accountability.

and removing such content. Additionally, consider blocking or unfollowing the
individuals involved to limit your exposure to their harmful behavior.

teacher, for emotional support and guidance. They can provide advice and help you
navigate the situation.
Trolling: Trolling refers to deliberately provoking or harassing others online by posting
inflammatory, offensive, or disruptive comments or content. Trolls often seek attention and aim
to incite emotional responses from their targets. Their behavior can range from mild annoyance
to severe harassment, depending on their intentions and actions.
To handle trolling:
1. Do Not Engage: Trolls thrive on attention, so it's best to avoid engaging with them.
Responding may escalate the situation and provide them with the satisfaction they
seek. Instead, consider ignoring or blocking them.
2. Report and Block: Report the trolling behavior to the social media platform and
block the individuals involved. This helps to prevent further interactions and protect
yourself from their disruptive behavior.
