What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

Students will be able to create their own audio eBook that tells a creative story and describes
characters, settings, or events with lots of details.

How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply. (Sometimes only one option will
apply.)

☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

X Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of learning
will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

X Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog,
presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation:
To implement this lesson, I will introduce the lesson by sharing an example eBook "The Mystery of
the Lost Library Book" and discuss how the story includes detailed descriptions of characters, settings,
and events. Explain that students will create their own stories and turn them into audio eBooks. I will
then state the learning goal to students and provide examples of what a completed project might look
like. I will also discuss the importance of choosing the right tools and platforms for their projects.
Students will use O365 PowerPoint to create slides and add audio narrations. They will have the
freedom to design their slides creatively, incorporating images, text, and voice recordings. I will
monitor the learning process, providing guidance on using the technology, offering feedback on story
drafts, and supporting students as they create their eBooks.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way
that gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage
the classroom behaviors on the technology:
To ensure students are actively engaged in authentic tasks and contexts using O365 PowerPoint
to create audio eBooks, a combination of strategies will be implemented. Students will work in
pairs or small groups, promoting co-use/co-engagement, to brainstorm story ideas, design
slides, and record narrations, ensuring active participation and collaborative learning. They will
explore storytelling techniques and digital tools, with scheduled exploration periods to foster
creativity. Clear, focused goals for each session will be established to maintain time-on-task,
with regular reminders and progress checks.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The lesson plan of creating audio eBooks using
O365 PowerPoint supports and enhances the learning experience for all students by aligning
with the UDL principle of multiple means of Action and Expression. This tool provides
multiple options for students to express their understanding and creativity. By allowing
students to design slides, add images, write text, and record audio narrations, O365 PowerPoint
can caters to different learning styles and strengths. Visual learners can excel in creating and
organizing slides, auditory learners can shine in recording and listening to narrations, and
kinesthetic learners can engage with the interactive aspects of the project. Additionally, the
flexibility of the tool enables students to work at their own pace and revisit parts of the project
as needed, offering personalized support. After designing this lesson idea, I feel confident and
excited that the lesson will positively impact student's learning especially using technology.
Reflecting on enhanced learning:
I believe the activities in this lesson will significantly impact student learning by fostering
creativity, collaboration, and engagement through hands-on, meaningful tasks. I'm particularly
looking forward to implementing the audio recording and slide design parts of the lesson
because they allow students to express their ideas in diverse ways and make learning
interactive and fun. Seeing student's creativity come to life and their excitement in sharing their
work will be especially rewarding.
