Course Information
Catalog Description:
Introduction to instrumentation and measurement. Active filters. Analysis and design of
data converters, Oscillators, Power amplifiers, Differential amplifiers. Frequency response,

of amplifiers. Selected laboratory experiments will be conducted for examining sensors and
designing and testing data converters, active filters, oscillators, power amplifiers and
differential amplifiers.

• By course: Electric Circuits II (ELEC 202), Electric Circuits II lab (ELEC 203),
Fundamentals of Electronics (ELEC 231, embedded lab).

Course Objectives:
The objectives of this course are:
1) Develop an understanding of how measurement systems operate.
2) Engage the students in engineering design and analysis of electronic circuits.
3) Allow the students to explore some practical applications of electronic circuits.
4) Allow the students to use modern simulation tools.
5) Develop and understanding of the principle of various industrial sensors (temperature,
pressure, strain, optical sensors, etc.)
6) Engage the students in advanced electronic instrumentation with signal processing.
7) Reinforce the students' ability of self-learning.

1. Develop an understanding of how measurement systems operate (architecture, errors,
calibration).
2. Design Butterworth-type active filters and tuned amplifiers.
3. Analyze and design different types of oscillators and waveform generators.
4. Analyze and design power stages.
5. Analyze and design transistor-based differential amplifiers
6. Analyze and understand frequency-response of amplifiers
7. Develop and conduct advanced electronic instrumentation (data conditioning and converters,
industrial sensors, and signal processing).

Students who are late more than 5 minutes will be considered absent
Switch off mobiles during the lecture time
Active participation in class required
Learn how to use Blackboard (to obtain essential course materials and announcements)

Cheating & plagiarism: University rules will be enforced in case of cheating and
plagiarism.
Cell phones are banned during exams.
