INTRODUCTION

Fun Run have become more and more popular in recent years. These events

are more than just a race. Fun runs are also generally created to help raise money for

worthy causes, such as schools or charities (PartyGoat, 2024). Fun runs are a great

way to get our community involved in fundraising and utilise participants networks to

maximise funds like the ones we'll be holding. It can raise money by asking people to

donate, charging an entry fee, or requiring participants to find sponsors that will

donate on the event's behalf.

Other than that, it's also a celebration of community, fitness, and the participants

become friendlier. It is all about the fun, so participants don't have to worry about

winning or losing. It promotes health, brings people together, creating a sense of unity,

social interaction and contributes to the spirit of friendly competition which makes Fun

Runs a memorable experience for participants of all ages and intensifies the

enthusiasm for maintaining an active lifestyle. Fun run gives people some experience

that brought everyone together and created a sense of local community, unlike any

other event.

Fun runs have various benefits for both physical and mental health, and people

would love to participate in another event like this in the future. The experience of

running alongside with other local communities would share the same healthy lifestyle

goals such as motivation, and it gave them a sense of confidence and satisfaction with

their body.

The event took place early in the morning, to avoid the sweltering heat of the

day. The event has planned out the “fun” elements of the fun run. There is a warm-up

stretch and music played such as aerobic for increases the participants heart rate and

blood flow to enable more oxygen. It also energised all the participants and got them

in the right mindset to enjoy the run. Participants gathered near the starting line with

high spirits, and once the gun was fired, the participants will start the run.

1
OBJECTIVE

In this proposal, there are three objectives that can be used as guidelines when
running this program. The objectives are:

i. To inspire and motivate students and people of all ages and backgrounds to
improve their mental and physical health through running and exercise.

Through this fun run, students and the public can be encouraged to exercise and work
up a sweat. By doing this exercise, students and the public regardless of age will be
healthier and fitter. In fact, with a program like this, they can reduce various diseases
and also improve their mental health. This fun run gives them more confidence in
themselves and satisfaction with their bodies.

ii. To promote community health and wellness by organising a fun run.

iii. Raising funds for a local charity or cause.

The aim of this fun run program is to raise funds for charities with the aim of building a
prayer hall at the school. This fun run is a great way to involve the community in
fundraising and use the network of participants to maximise the funds that we will
keep. Funds can be raised through fun runs by asking people to donate
wholeheartedly, charging fees and entry fees, or requiring participants to find sponsors
who will donate on behalf of the event. When the funds collected are sufficient, the
goal of building a prayer hall at the school will be realised. From the effect of
fundraising at this fun run event, we can see that the public's contribution can make
things easier in building a prayer hall at school.

2
1.0 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

A fun run is one of the most popular activities that people participate in. This
event typically refers to a recreational and often non-competitive running or walking
activity organised for enjoyment, community engagement, and sometimes charitable
purposes. There are many events that do this fun run program, and this fun run is also
a good health program for the community. A fun run is a long-distance race that
anyone will participate in because fun runs are often held to raise money for charity,
and they can also help spread awareness about health. By participating in this running
program, it can inspire and motivate them to take care of their health. Running is also
one of the best exercises to release sweat. Not only that, but it can also burn fat, and
burning more calories in the body improves fitness. Not only that, this running program
can also have an impact on the importance of taking care of health.

Fun Run is also a very relaxed and open-running program. Various themes are
carried out to attract the community to participate in this fun run program. Fun runs
incorporate themes to add an extra element of enjoyment. Participants might be
encouraged to dress up in costumes related to a specific theme, creating a festive and
lively atmosphere. For example, the themes that are run are PDRM RUN, COLOR
RUN, MERDEKA FUN RUN, and many more (PDRM Fun Run 2022, 2024). Not only
those who participate can choose to run as far as 5km, 10km, or more as offered in
the program. This run can also help foster the well-being and harmony of the people in
our country, which consists of various races, cultures, and nationalities. It can also
help our country to be more integrated because sports is also one of the communities
in our country that can unite and strengthen the spirit of sports in the country.

This fun run program is also one of the programs. Fun runs are often organised
as charity or fundraising events, and they can be highly effective in raising funds for
various causes. to help raise funds for charities and local organisations in need. Those
who want to donate can participate in this fun run program, and they can also take
care of their friends to participate so that the community can donate while taking care
of their health and having fun. Participants are often encouraged to raise additional
funds through individual or team fundraising efforts. This can involve reaching out to
friends, family, and colleagues to secure pledges or donations. Many events set up

3
online fundraising platforms to make it easy for participants to collect donations. This
fun run program helps many people in need, among them is the Breast Cancer
Heroes Run by Mahkota for Women. It helps women who suffer from breast cancer,
and it also teaches us about the dangers of breast cancer. Many charity programs that
are carried out with this fun run activity have a very positive impact on the community.

4
2.0 PROGRAM RATIONALE

Fun Run is an event which we organise to encourage, inspire and motivate

students and people of all ages and backgrounds to improve their mental and physical
health through run and exercise. We also have a vision which is to improve the public
awareness of the importance of always being healthy. In this run, every participant has
to run 5km in the pathway. There are several problems that we wanted to show
through this project. The very first is about awareness to avoid obesity. Malaysia is
Asia’s fattest country with approximately half of the population overweight or obese.
Obesity means having too much body fat (LUM, 2018). It is different from being
overweight or weighing too much.

Both terms mean that a person’s weight is greater than that considered healthy
for his or her height. Being obese is a complicated illness that involves excess body
fat. Being obese is more than just a visual issue. It is a medical condition that raises
the possibility of numerous other illnesses and health issues. Heart disease, diabetes,
high blood pressure, high cholesterol, liver disease, sleep apnea, and some types of
cancer are a few examples of these (Mayo, 2023). It affects quality of life and causes
physical changes like breathlessness, snoring, sleep apnoea, tiredness, and difficulty
with physical activity and arthritis. It can also lead to psychological conditions like low
self-esteem and depression. The main reason for obesity is too much food intake.
People nowadays are not eating for hunger but for interest. Most of the youngsters
now are categorised as obese in Malaysia. This situation will largely affect individual
and national development in future. Through this Fun Run, we are trying to bring
students and the public awareness about obesity which can cause diabetes,
depression and destroys life by time. We try to make people have fun through this run
besides helping them keep healthy. We would like to create healthy youngsters for a
better nation. Next, our intention is to reduce stress issues among the students and
public. Stress is a biggest issue among students Not just students, but the people who
do the stress job throughout their day. A national survey has revealed that Malaysians
aged 13 to 17 are critically suffering from mental health problems. One in five are
suffering depression (18.3%), two in five anxiety (39.7%), and one in 10 suffering from
stress (9.6%) (Arifin & Beck, 2023). The number of suicide cases among students
may have something to do with our education system. The exam-oriented culture,

5
which causes undue stress, not only affects students but teachers as well. The survey
on students’ problems found that 50% of 120,420 students faced personal problems
that included exam stress, 29% faced family problems, 11% faced issues with friends,
and 10% faced problems with their teachers (Li, 2019).

FUN RUN continues without relief and can lead to a condition called distress –
a negative stress reaction. Distress can disturb the body's internal balance or
equilibrium, leading to physical symptoms such as headaches, an upset stomach,
elevated blood pressure, chest pain and problems sleeping. Emotional problems can
also result from distress. These problems include depression, panic attacks, or other
forms of anxiety and worry. Research suggests that stress also can bring on or worsen
certain symptoms or diseases. Stress is linked to 6 of the leading causes of death:
heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide
(HARTZ, 2014). Considering all of these effects of stress on a person, we make
people understand that with a particular emphasis on exercise and fitness as a
component of managing stress. The modern lifestyle that literally means a sedentary
lifestyle to most people today is the source of numerous health woes. Life goes by
sitting and watching television, reading, idling, sleeping, spending hours in front of the
computer, eating and indulging in video games, all without much mobility. Routine
exercise and outdoor activities seem to be the privilege of a few. So, with this Fun Run
actually could help the students and public to enjoy participating in this Fun Run
besides having good health.

4.0 PLANNING COMMITTEE

18
5.0 CONTENTS OF THE PROGRAM

5.1 5KM Fun Run

Fun runs are an example of a well-balanced combination of different aspects;

they combine physical activity, social interaction with the community, and
entertainment in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. A fun run is an untimed running
event that typically lasts no longer than five kilometres and involves either
cross-country or road running (Khoo, 2020). Typically, the purpose of a fun run is to
raise money for a charitable organisation. Their core is not about speed or intense
competition, but about creating an environment where enjoyment and participation are
valued above all else. Regardless of age, ability, or personal fitness level, fun runs
encourage an inclusive atmosphere where all participants feel not only accepted but
also truly at ease and free from pressure to participate.

These events frequently act as stages for charitable deeds that agree with
remarkable goals, such as collecting funds, bringing focus on issues, or supporting
regional initiatives that have a positive influence on communities or social issues.
Sponsors contribute the proceeds to pay for the event's overhead. The best part is that
you can set your own pace. It is totally up to you whether you are an experienced
runner who is prepared to sprint or if you would rather take a leisurely walk. Now is the
time to enjoy your freedom and let pleasure dictate all that you do (Dack. D, 2021). In
the fabric of a fun run, the speed is incidental as walkers, joggers, and runners set out
on their own paths, enjoying the liberty to enjoy the occasion at their own speed,
unhindered by time constraints. The primary values are the joy of movement, the
respect given to physical health, and the fabric of friendship woven throughout the
passionate involvement.

Unlike the traditional competitive races, fun runs shine a bright light on the
many advantages of an active lifestyle and the intrinsic rewards of physical activity.
They create an atmosphere that supports the idea that exercise goes beyond the point
of obligation and embraces a welcoming atmosphere that is open to people of all
fitness levels. Running has been shown to be a very effective way to improve your
health, just like any other form of exercise, and fun runs are no exception. Moving will

19
help you lose weight and improve your cardiovascular fitness because it will keep you
active, whether you're walking or running (PartyGoat, 2024). These activities act as
catalysts, pushing people in the direction of a healthy and active lifestyle that
embodies the joy of movement, the power of community involvement, and the selfless
spirit of giving. Fun runs leave lasting memories of teamwork and achievement that
extend well beyond the finish line by creating an environment that redefines fitness as
a joyful and inclusive activity.

5.2 Aerobic Session

Exercise that works your body's large muscle groups is called aerobic exercise.
Most exercises of this kind are repetitive and rhythmic. The degree of difficulty at
which your body works during this kind of exercise is something you can modify
(Cleveland Clinic, 2023). Creating an organised and interesting workout plan that
puts cardiovascular fitness, endurance, flexibility, and overall well being first is what it
means to design an aerobics session. Start this energising routine with a series of mild
cardio exercises, carefully encouraging the heart rate to rise gradually. Once this beat
starts, maintain and increase heart rates with smooth, continuous aerobic exercise.
Think about the exuberant appeal of dance-based fitness programmes such as
Zumba, which provide the workout with a steady increase in heart rate throughout the
exercise by pulsating energy and rhythmic dynamism.

In order to create a dynamic and demanding workout, carefully place breaks

and adjust intensity levels to create a captivating and constantly changing experience.
In order to create an immersive sensory experience for participants, carefully
synchronise upbeat melodies with distinct workout phases to create a harmonious
blend that complements this fitness symphony. Bring life to the session by skillfully
combining a variety of movements and exercises, creating an atmosphere that is full
of interest and variation.

Introduce themed sessions or experiment with different aerobic routines to add

an extra push to the workout regimen. This will bring some freshness and energy to
the mix. Bring this fitness journey to a gentle and complete end by leading participants

20
through a peaceful cooldown phase as the session comes to an end. This will allow
them to gently relax and bring their heart rates back to a peaceful equilibrium.

Fun run have become more and more popular in recent years. These events

are more than just a race. Fun run are also generally created to help raise money for

worthy causes, such as schools or charities. Fun run are a great way to get our

community involved in fundraising and utilise participants networks to maximise funds

like the ones we'll be holding. It can raise money by asking people to donate, charging

an entry fee, or requiring participants to find sponsors that will donate on the event's

behalf.

Other than that, we identified the need that it would engage them all the fitness

levels as well as creating a sense of awareness around healthy lifestyle. It’s also a

celebration of community, fitness, and the participants become friendlier. It is all about

the fun, so participants don't have to worry about winning or losing. By this event, it

promotes health, brings people together, creating a sense of unity, social interaction

and contributes to the spirit of friendly competition which makes Fun Runs a

memorable experience for participants of all ages and intensifies the enthusiasm for

maintaining an active lifestyle. Fun run gives people some experience that brought

everyone together and created a sense of local community, unlike any other event.

Fun runs have various benefits for both physical and mental health, and people

would love to participate in another event like this in the future. The experience of

running alongside with other local communities would share the same healthy lifestyle

goals such as motivation, and it gave them a sense of confidence and satisfaction with

their body.

The event took place early in the morning, to avoid the sweltering heat of the day.

The event has planned out the “fun” elements of the fun run. Because the word

aerobic means "with oxygen," the amount of oxygen that reaches your muscles

21
depends on how you breathe. Your muscles need oxygen to contract, which is what

gives you the strength you need to work out. Your body uses oxygen and stored fats

and carbohydrates to produce this energy (Wheeler, M.T, 2023).

8.0 PROMOTION OF THE PROGRAM

In recent years, the popularity of fun runs has surged, transcending the
traditional concept of a mere race (Palopoli, 2021). The Health Harmony Fun Run,
slated to take place at Dataran Mawar, UiTM, is more than an event; it's a celebration
of health, community, and the joy of movement. Scheduled for 13 January 2024, this
fun run aims to not only promote a healthier lifestyle but also contribute to a noble
cause (PUML, 2023).

The Health Harmony Fun Run's cost and inclusion are its key selling points. As
one of the most reasonably priced fun races in the area, the event recognizes the
value of health for all and makes participation accessible to all through small
registration fees. Beyond the race itself, this inclusive culture promotes a feeling of
camaraderie among competitors from various backgrounds as they assemble at the
starting line.

More than a physical activity, the Health Harmony Fun Run serves a dual
purpose fostering fitness and supporting a charitable cause. Proceeds from the event
will contribute to the construction of a prayer hall at UiTM, exemplifying the event's
commitment to community betterment. This unique blend of fitness and charity not
only promotes individual well-being but also exemplifies the spirit of giving back to the
community (Ames, n.d.).

Participants can choose their pace, with options ranging from 5KM, 10KM, or
more. The event emphasises the journey over the destination, encouraging individuals
to embrace an active lifestyle without the pressure of winning. The inclusion of diverse
themes, such as PDRM RUN, COLOR RUN, and MERDEKA FUN RUN, adds an
extra layer of excitement, allowing participants to express their individuality and
creativity.

Rewards and incentives are integrated into the event, recognizing and
celebrating participants' achievements. It's not just about crossing the finish line, it's
about acknowledging the dedication and effort put into the journey towards a healthier
self (Babu, 2023).

29
Sponsorship plays a crucial role in making the Health Harmony Fun Run a
reality. Acknowledging and appreciating sponsors like 100 Plus, Mokti's, and Al-Ikhsan
Sports, the event gains credibility and widens its reach. Sponsorship not only benefits
the event itself but also provides an opportunity for sponsors to connect with a diverse
audience.

To get involved in the Health Harmony Fun Run, participants can register online
through the event website. Encouraging friends, family, and colleagues to join
amplifies the communal aspect of the event. Social media becomes a powerful tool for
spreading excitement and updates, with participants encouraged to share their journey
using #HealthHarmonyFunRun.

Last but not least, by fusing aspects of charity, community, and fitness, the
Health Harmony Fun Run goes beyond the conventional idea of a race. It is evidence
in favour of the idea that everyone has the right to good health (Ghebreyesus, 2017).
Come along as we make inexpensive progress toward a better, healthier tomorrow!

10.0 CHALLENGES IN PLANNING THE PROGRAM

10.1 Lack of Experienced Leadership

Programme management requires competent and seasoned leaders. Project

management is more than simply knowing how to use a platform or philosophy and
having project management training; it's also about being able to view all projects as a
whole and knowing how to move them all forward towards completion. Without these
abilities, there may be missed deadlines, job delays brought on by unanticipated
circumstances, uncontrollable expenses because of weak vendor relationships and
purchasing power, and other issues.

10.2 Too Many Points of Contacts

Recall that labour, supplies, and other resources will be required at each
programme site. It can be challenging to remember who is in charge of what when
there are too many points of contact, which can cause delays and confusion.

10.3 Lack of communication

For any programme to be successful, communication is essential. It might be

challenging to make sure that everyone is in agreement and pursuing the same
objectives if there is unclear communication. This may result in miscommunication,
missing deadlines, and other problems.

10.4 Scope Creep

For any project, scope creep is a normal and expected occurrence. While there
are occasions when it may be advantageous, overall the drawbacks outweigh the

32
benefits. It may result in other problems, such as missed deadlines and budget
overruns.

10.5 Undefined Goals

The project as a whole and the team may suffer from unclear goals. Any project
that has clear goals and senior management cannot support it or agree with them is
unlikely to succeed.
