TYPES OF DRILL BITS WE ARE USING COMMONLY

Twist drill bits
• Metalworking twist drill bits are used for drilling metal.
• They have points tapered at specific angles and a special surface treatment. For most users,
a set of metal bits of sizes 3 to 10 mm will be ideal.
PRODUCT FEATURES
• Drill bits for concrete are specially designed to drill stone, concrete, etc. They usually have
a tungsten carbide coating. A set of concrete drill bits from 5 to 12 mm will be all you need
for most jobs.
PRODUCT FEATURES
Spade bits and Auger bits

• Wood bits are designed for drilling wood and soft materials. A set of bits
from 3 to 12 mm will be sufficient for most projects. There are two main
types of woodworking bit: flat or spade bits and auger bits.
PRODUCT FEATURES
MOST COMMON DRILL BIT MATERIALS WE ARE USING
• Steel Bits: Are less costly and are typically used with softer wood materials. They wear and
dull quickly and can sometimes break.
• High-Speed Steel (HSS) Bits: Are harder, remain sharper for a longer period of time and
can drill soft metals, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), wood and fiberglass and stainless steel also.
• Black Oxide-Coated HSS Drill Bits: They are considerably more durable, plus they work
well with a combination of materials such as metal, hardwoods, softwoods, fiberglass and
poly-vinyl chloride (PVC).
PRODUCT FEATURES
• Titanium Coated Bits: Are more expensive than high-speed steel bits, They are best
utilized with metal, wood, fiberglass and poly-vinyl chloride (PVC).

• Cobalt Drill Bits: Are exceptionally hard and quickly dispel heat. They are used with
stronger metals like stainless steel and for aluminium penetration.

• Carbide-Tipped Drill Bits: Are costly, but they retain their sharpness more than any other
bit.

PRODUCT FEATURES
HOLE SAW CUTTERS
• Hole saw cutters can be used with wood, metal, tile and masonry. Which is use to drills
large cut-out holes.

SCREWDRIVER DRILL BIT

• Screwdriver drill bits can be used with many materials depending on tip type. Used with
handheld drills and impact drivers depending on type.
PRODUCT FEATURES
WHAT IS TAPS AND DIES?
• Taps and dies are tools which are used to create purpose screw threads, which is
called threading.
• A tap is used to cut or form the female portion of the mating pair (e.g. a nut). The process
of cutting or forming threads using a tap is called tapping
• A die is used to cut or form the male portion of the mating pair (e.g. a bolt). whereas the
process using a die is called threading.
PRODUCT FEATURES

TAPPING PROCESS
• Internal threads are cut by serial taps or by nut taps.

• They consist of two or three tools the distinguishing feature being the design of the cutting
part.

1 - Entering tap
2 - Plug tap
3 - Third tap
PRODUCT FEATURES
USING PROCEDURE OF TAPPING BITS
1. The entering tap (1st pass) has a long chamfer and trapeziform cutting edges; it does
approximately 60 % of the cutting work.
2. The plug tap (2nd pass) has a short chamfer and trapeziform cutting edges which are
deeper; it does approximately 30 % of the cutting work.
3. The (finishing) third tap (3rd pass) has a short chamfer and cutting edges which create
the final sharp form of the thread groove; it cuts the thread to nominal size and finishes
the thread flanks.
PRODUCT FEATURES
NUT TAPS
• The nut tap (also called single-pass hand tap) in its cutting part unites the cutting parts of
the three serial taps.
• Consequently, it has a long chamfer representing about 70 % of the total length of the
cutting part; the cutting edges are initially trapeziform and become sharp only towards the
end.
• The cutting part is not essentially longer than that of the serial tap.
PRODUCT FEATURES
THREADING DIES

• External threads are made with the help of a threading die or die-stock.

• It consists of a cutting body (similar to a nut with milled-in chip grooves) with a chamfer
on either side so that it can be applied both-way.

• The threading die is put into a die holder which is equipped with two handles.
PRODUCT FEATURES
OPERATION OF THREAD CUTTING BY USING THREAD DIES

• The threading die is set in exactly horizontal position on the bevel of the bolt and turned
clockwise slowly and with slight pressure from above (with right-hand thread). Only when
the starting end of the thread is cut and the threading die guides itself, the breaking of chips
can begin.

THREADS

There are commonly using 6 types of threads.

1. METRIC (M) - ISO Thread

2. UNC/UNF - Unified National Thread

3. NPT/NPTF – Pipe Thread

4. BSPP (BSP, parallel)

5. BSPT (BSP, tapered) – British Whitworth Thread

• According to the above thread types, we are nowadays mostly using Metric type threads
over BSPP and BSPT.
PRODUCT FEATURES
THERE ARE SOME DIFFERENT TYPES OF THREADS.

1) Male Threads Vs Female Threads

Every matched pair of threads, external and internal, can be described as male and
female. For example, a screw has male thread, while the matching hole has female thread.
PRODUCT FEATURES
2) Parallel and tapered design threads

Tapered threads become narrower as they extend outward while parallel threads remain the
same diameter.
PRODUCT FEATURES
3) Right hand and Left Hand Threads

• The threads can be used as left handedness and right handedness threads for the different
purposes. The right handedness threads turned in a clockwise direction and left handedness
threads turned in counter clock direction.

• By convention right-handedness is the default handedness for screw threads.

PRODUCT FEATURES

PITCH OF THE THREAD

• The pitch is the distance from the crest of one thread to the next in millimetres (mm).

• TPI (threads per inch) is used by inch thread.

PRODUCT FEATURES
HOW TO DETERMINE THE PITCH OF THE THREAD

• Use a thread pitch gauge tool to determine the size of the thread. Thread pitch gauge helps
you to accurately measure and calculate the number of threads within a given distance.
