Studies have shown that television is one of the most important source of information for children
about existing products. Children are vulnerable to commercials for they are lack of knowledge to
understand and evaluate the purpose of every product. (Barve, Sood, Nithya, & Virmani, 2015)
The McDonald’s commercial entitled “Dada” was released in May 2002 and done by Leo
Burnett, he is the advertising agency for McDonald’s Philippines. (Adsarchive, n.d.). This commercial
was criticized and had to pulled out by Senator Flavier and Villar due to the encouraging use of bribery.
(FilipiKnow, 2016).
McDonald’s main target includes young children, parents with young children and teenagers. In
other words, it is marketing towards children. (Anonymous, n.d.). The advertisement was intended to
bring a funny, cute and a feel-good one commercial to the audience mostly to the children that this kind
of funny scenario was normal in a family. The fact that the commercial encouraging the use of bribery of
the father who is discreetly handling out French fries for his daughter under the table just to get favor of
him over her mother which is the bad lesson that found out in the advertisement. (FilipiKnow, 2016)
knowing that Bribery is a very real disease on the modern day by convincing someone just to get what
he/she really wants in replacement of a thing or a money. (Hague, n.d.).
Actual effects on the society can lead the commercial to be pulled out. The commercial can be
watched by children and teenagers who are innocent, this will thought a wrong lesson about bribery
which children has no idea about. Eventually, it could be their values when growing up knowing that they
already did was a fact. Additionally, it is even worst if a children lived up this kind of values and applies
around the existing community. (FilipiKnow, 2016)
