Power View Interview Questions

Q) What is power View?

A) Power view is a one of the power bi desktop software which is used to create report
in report view by taking the dataset as a source is called power view

Note: Power view is a default software in power bi desktop software

Q) Explain Visual interaction how many types of visual interactions you have in power
bi?

In power bi visuals are highly interactive if you click any data point in a visual the other
visuals of the page also effected that is called interaction

In power BI having 3 types of interactions

1) Highlight action
2) Filter action
3) None

Default Visual interaction is Highlight Action B/w the visuals

Go to ->power bi desktop ribbon ->format tab->edit interactions

When I click any data point on a visual the system will give first priority is highlight if
you want to change the first priority as filter this is the navigation

Go to-power bi desktop ribbon->file menu->options and settings->options-

>current file->report setting->visual interactions->

Check the box as change default visual interaction from cross highlighting to cross
filtering

Q) What is visual?

A) Presenting the data in a graphical format is called visual

In power BI having 250 visuals and each visual having three sections

1) Field section : Field section contain field wells in visual to visual field wells will be
different in this field wells we will drag in to the fact and dimension columns
2) Format section: to make any changes to the visual go for the format section
format section contain formatting options
3) Analytical section: if you want to see feature predictions and analysis go for
the analytical section

Q) Explain filters and how many types of filters you have in power view?

A) Whenever we want show subset of data/filtered data instead of complete data In the
Visuals/reports we use filters in power view

In power view having four types of filters

1) Filter on this visual : if you want to apply the filter condition particular visual on
a page go for the filter on this visual filter condition
2) Filter on this page: if you want to apply the filter condition on entire page go for
the filter on this page filter condition
3) Filter on all pages: if you want to apply the filter on entire report means all
pages go for the filter on all pages filter condition
4) Drill through filter: if you want to pass the filter condition one page to another
page in a report use drill through filter

Q) Explain Drill through filter

A) If you want to pass the filter condition one page to another page in a report use drill
through filter

Drill through filters are two types

1) Cross report : Cross report is one of the Drill through filter type if you want to
pass the filter condition one report to another report use cross report
2) Keep all filters: By default Its “ON”.
If we want pass the filters applied on the visual to another page in report by
using Drill through Option “ON” the Keep all filters option.
If we don’t want to pass the filters to another page “OFF” the keep all filters
Option.

Q) What is drill down visual?

A) To show all or complete information in a single visual that is called drill down visual

If you create a drill down visual you need hierarchy, hierarchy means step by step
process if you create a hierarchy you need related dimension columns then only
possible to create drill down visual
Drill down visual actions

1) Drill up
2) Drill down
3) Next level
4) Expand next level

Q) What is hierarchy how many types of hierarchies you have in power bi?

A) Hierarchy means step by step process there are two types of hierarchies.one is system
defined hierarchy another one is user defined hierarchy

System defined hierarchy:

System will create a hierarchy that is called system defined hierarchy like Date
hierarchies

Example: Date Hierarchy

User defined hierarchy: user defined hierarchy is called user defined hierarchy

Q) Which is universal filter?

A) Report level filter is the universal filter

Q) Why report level filter is the universal filter?

A) Report level filter is apply the filter condition in all pages visuals in a report that is the
reason report level filter is the universal filter

Q) What is visualization?

A) To present the data in Graphical format that is called visualization in power BI having
approximately 250 visuals in this visuals divided in to several categories

Visual for filtering the data

Example: Slicer visual

Visual for visualization Categorical data

Example: Pie chart, donut chart, tree map, column and bar charts

Visual for visualization Date and Time data/ Trend data

Example: Line chart, Area chart

Visual for visualization KPI data

Example: Card visual, multi row card visual, Gauge visual

Visual for Visualization Geographical Data

Example: Bubble map, Filled map

Visual for Visualization Structural data

Example: Table visual, Matrix Table

Q) What is Slicer visual?

A) Slicer visual is a filter visual it is used for filtering the data in a visual By Client.

Q) Explain Difference between slicer and filter

A) Slicer and filter this both are used for filtering purpose but slicer is used by client
filters are used in developer

Q) What is stacked and clustered?

A) If you want to present in a visual one value top of another value is called stacked, if
you want to present in a visual one value beside another value is called clustered.

Q) Explain Scatter (or) Bubble chart?

A) Stacked chart is measure two fact columns based on one dimension column

Q) What is Card visual?

A) Card visual is used to present the KPI (key performance indicator) data card visual
can support only fact columns one card visual can support only one fact column

If you want to present more number of KPI data use multi row card visual

Q) Explain map visuals?

A) When you have Geographical data use map visuals power BI having

Filled map and bubble map if you work on map visuals must and should you need
internet without internet map visuals cannot work

Note: power bi supports Bing maps

Q) What is grouping explain how many types of groupings you have?

A) Grouping the Dimension Columns is called Grouping

In power BI having Two types of Groups

1) List: List can support Text data type dimension columns

2) Bin: bin can support numeric and date and time data type dimension columns bins
are two types

a) Number of bin, b) Size of bin

Q) What is sorting?

A) To Presenting the data either ascending or descending order that is called sorting

Q) Explain Bookmarks and selection pane

A) Bookmarks will help us to save the current state of the page by using bookmarks we
will change the visuals dynamically and using selection pane hide or unhide the visuals
in a page

Q) Explain the term incremental refresh?

Increment refresh is a newly added data so that there is no need to truncate or load the
entire data.

Q) Is the Power BI tool available for free?

You can access Power BI for free.

Q) What is Custom Visuals?

Custom Visual are those visual which are not available in BI desktop, which are imported
from the market for the purpose of better visualization.

Q) Explain z-order in Power BI?

Z-order is a design strategy which is used for arranging visual over shapes. It can be
defined as an implementation method which can be applied whenever reports have
multiple elements.
Q) What are the different views available in Power BI Desktop?

There are three different views in Power BI, each of which serves a different purpose:

 Report View - In this view, users can add visualizations and additional report pages
and publish the same on the portal.

 Data View - In this view, data shaping can be performed using Query Editor tools

 Relationship View - In this view, users can manage relationships between datasets

Q) What are the main components of the Power BI toolkit, and what do they do?

 Power Query: Power query is a ETL Tool in power bi

 Power Pivot: a modeling tool

 Power View: a presentation tool for creating charts, tables, and more

 Power Map: lets you create geospatial representations of your data

 Power Q&A: lets you use natural language to get answers to questions;

Q) What is the use of tooltip?

A) We do not have to go anywhere to find Tooltips unless we want to add a new Chart
type into the visualization section. Once we create any chart we will be able to find
the Tooltips there in the Fields section of Visualization.
