Introduction
After successfully completing your Bachelors degree, you are faced with a new choice. Do you venture out into the job market, or do you give your career an extra boost with a Masters degree? A Masters provides deeper academic insight and offers you an opportunity to continue your personal development. Therefore, the Anton de Kom University of Suriname offers you in partnership with the Erasmus School of Economics an international Master of Science programme in Accounting, Auditing and Control. The Masters programme in Accounting, Auditing and Control covers all aspects of collecting, categorizing, summarizing, analyzing and using financial data in organizations. It deepens the students academic knowledge of accounting, auditing and control, using the latest rules and regulations. Besides this, students are confronted with techniques and theoretical frameworks that enable them to think independently and critically about how auditing and control are practiced.

The purpose of the Master in Accounting, Auditing and Control is to deliver financial economic experts of the highest quality. This is achieved by building a programme of both nationally as well as internationally recognized high academic standards.

The Masters programme lasts two years and is divided into a Pre-Master and a Master. The programme consists of core courses, seminars, and a Masters thesis distri-buted over several semesters. The core courses help students to get acquainted with a wide range of topics that are essential for accounting, auditing and control, and provide a solid background for attending the seminars. The seminar is an important component of the Masters programme. For this intensified course, active participation and commitment are mandatory. Students are expected to write and to present several papers, present aspects of the literature or case applications, ask questions, mention doubts and express ideas in class discussions. The last semester of the programme is devoted to the Masters thesis. The thesis is written individually under close supervision by one of the academic staff members.

The first six months of the second year require an attendance at the Erasmus School of Economics.

Career prospects

The Master in Accounting, Auditing & Control is based on the ever-increasing demand for university-trained auditors and controllers. There is a major shortage of Certified Public Accountants, Controllers, Management Consultants, and Financial Advisors. Almost every auditing firm, large industrial company or management consulting firm is looking for talented recent graduates. This Master also offers an education which facilitates students admittance without any shortcomings to the post initial education for Certified Public Accountant (CPA; in Dutch: Register Accountant [RA]) or Certified Controller (in Dutch: Register Controller [RC]). The tuition fee for this Masters Programme is 7.500,-.
