Topic: Exploring Transformative Educational Leadership

Activity Instructions

Overview

This activity is designed to deepen your understanding of transformative


educational leadership. By engaging with video resources and supplementary materials,
you will explore key concepts such as equity-minded leadership, social-emotional
learning, and community building. You will analyze and reflect on these concepts, apply
them to hypothetical scenarios, and discuss their implications for your future practice as
educational leaders.

Step 1: Preparation

1. Read the provided resources: Familiarize yourself with the basic


concepts of transformative educational leadership. Recommended starting points
include:

2. Watch introductory videos: Access and watch the introductory videos


from the resources listed above. Take notes on the key themes and ideas
presented.
Step 2: In-Depth Analysis

1. Select one program for detailed study:


• Choose either APEL, TEL Fellowship, Greater Good Science Center, or
UBC’s TELP.
• Review at least two available video materials, case studies, and
participant testimonials related to your selected program.

2. Analyze the content:


• Identify and summarize the main goals and methodologies of the program.

• Focus on specific elements such as equity-minded leadership,


social-emotional learning, mindfulness practices, and community engagement.

• Note any innovative practices or strategies that stand out to you.

Step 3: Application

1. Develop a hypothetical scenario:


• Create a scenario where you, as an educational leader, need to implement
a transformative leadership initiative in a school or educational organization.
• Describe the context, challenges, and goals of your initiative.
2. Apply the concepts:
• Using insights from your chosen program, outline a detailed plan for your
initiative.
• Include specific strategies for addressing equity, fostering social-emotional
learning, and engaging with the community.
• Discuss how you would measure the success of your initiative.

Step 4: Reflection and Discussion


1. Write a reflection paper:
• Reflect on what you have learned from the videos and resources.
• Discuss how the concepts and strategies you explored can influence your
approach to leadership.
• Consider potential challenges and how you might overcome them.

2. Participate in a group discussion:


• Share your hypothetical scenario and plan with your peers.
• Engage in a discussion about the different approaches and strategies.

Step 5: Final Presentation
1. Prepare a presentation:
