Q.1 What is a planet ? Name any four
planets of the solar system ?
Ans. The big heavenly bodies which revolve
around the sun are known as planets .
Four planets are – Mercury , Venus , Earth
and Mars
Q.2 What causes day and Night ?
Ans. Rotation of the earth causes day and
Night .
Q.3 Name the planets of our solar system
that have more than sixty moons ?
Ans. Saturn and Jupiter have more than
sixty moons.
Q.4 What is a solar year?
Ans. Complete one revolution of the planet
around the sun is known as solar year.

Q.2 Life exists only on the earth and not on
other planets. Explains.
ANS.Life exists only on the earth and not on
other planets because of presence of
atmosphere, water and oxygen.

crust.
Ans.(i) The earth’s outermost hard layer is
called the crust.
Q.4 What causes changes in the seasons?
Ans. Changes of seasons are caused by
revolution and tilted axis of the earth.
Q.5why is the season in the northern
hemisphere always different from that in
the southern hemisphere?
Ans.(i) When the northern hemisphere is
tilted towards the sun it has summer. At
that time the southern hemisphere tilted
away from the sun .
(ii) The hemisphere which is tilted towards
the sun gets the sun,s rays directly and so it
is warmer than other hemisphere.
