The Art of the Philippines refers to the works of art that have developed and

era. It reflects to its society and non-Filipinos the wide range of cultural influences on the
country's culture and how these influences honed the country's arts. The art of the Philippines
can refer to the visual arts, performing arts, textile art traditions, literature, dance, pottery, and
other art forms in the country.

of artworks that brings awareness towards the most perplexing and important matters. Guided
by the emerging mediums such as art salons, video art, object design, graphical arts and social
media, Contemporary Art has broken down walls and looks headed to a limitless future.
Modern art is a term that signifies the philosophy and style of the artworks produced during
the 1890-1960 era.
The main objective of Modern art was to set aside the traditions of the past and put
more emphasis on experimentation with new perspective of seeing the world.
People often get confused with the word ‘modern’, as a term to describe something new
and fashionable, but rather it refers to the artworks produced during the time period
mentioned above
Contemporary art is the art produced by living artists, who produce the most up-to-date
artworks.
By definition, Contemporary Art refers to work of arts made since the aftermath of
World War II and is used to describe the works of artists still living and creating art
works.
Contemporary art took the main ingredients of Modern Art into greater heights by
focusing more on social, economic and political matters, and also uses diverse materials
and mediums to produce art work.
The distinction of modern art and contemporary art could also be a matter of perception and
reception depending on the context.

E. Abstraction
Contemporary Arts is a statement that an artist makes about life, thoughts, ideas,
beliefs and many other things that define human life. It is the art of today, produced in the late
20th century or in the 21st century. Contemporary artists work in a globally influenced,
culturally diverse, and technologically advancing world. Contemporary art is part of a cultural
dialogue that concerns larger contextual frameworks such as personal and cultural identity,
family, community, and nationality. First, one needs to be clear about what the term
contemporary art has come to mean. It is generally defined as referring to "work created after
Martial Law in the Philippines." As it's used by critics, curators, and teachers, however, it really
refers only to work that is considered avant-garde, or cutting-edge.
This module focuses firstly on the distinction of arts such as Practical or Utilitarian
(Minor Arts) and Fine or Aesthetic (Major Arts), the different arts in the Philippines
followed by its history from Pre-Colonial Arts, Spanish Era, American Era, Japanese Era, Modern
