1. A student is finding the value of ‘g’ by free fall method using an electronic timer
using the apparatus shown in Figure 1. ● He places the metallic ball B = 1.0 N on
electromagnet. He places the metre rule on the pivot at the 20.0 cm mark. He
measures the time interval for free-fall of the ball. He repeats the procedure,
placing the ball at the 10.0 cm mark, at the 20.0 cm mark, at the 30.0 cm mark, at
the 40.0 cm mark and at the 50.0 cm mark. The readings are shown in Table.
(a) Complete the column headings/units.

Using the finding shared above:
· Plot a graph of s against t². [1 ]
· Draw a "best fit" straight line and measure its slope. [

4. Some students performed an experiment to calculate value of “g” of simple

5. a. In the diagram Melde’s apparatus is shown. If mass per unit length of thread
is 0.0025g/cm, while the tension in the sting T is 60760 dynes and the length
of each loop is 36. Find the frequency for the A.C.
b. Stationary waves are produced in a 10 m long stretched string. If the string
vibrates in 5 segments and wave velocity is 20 m/sec, then the frequency is (in

6. Verify that the Time Period of the simple pendulum is directly proportional to the
square root of its length using the setup as shown in the figure. Which would have

air using stationary waves and to calculate the speed of sound using resonance
tube using setup as shown in the figure.
As explained in above figure that in the resonance air column experiment with one
end closed tube we get first resonance air column at the length λ/4, where λ is the
wavelength of sound wave produced by the tuning fork in use. Here the length of
1st resonant air column is l1=15cm.Hence λ/4=15cm.
· The second resonant air column will be obtained at the length l2
· The Third resonant air column will be obtained at the length l3
· What sound frequency has a 0.10-m wavelength when the speed of sound is
340 m/s?
· A tuning fork of frequency 500 Hz is sounded on a resonance tube; the first and

8. The class is investigating the oscillations of a pendulum. A student
measures the length l of the pendulum and takes readings of the time
t for 20 complete oscillations. He calculates the period T of the pendulum.
T is the time taken for one Complete oscillation. He repeats the procedure
for range of lengths. He plots graph of T 2/S 2 against l / m.
· Using the graph, determine the length l of a pendulum that has a
period T = 2.0 s. Show clearly on the graph how did you obtain the

· Explain why measuring the time for 20 swings, rather than for 1
swing, gives a more accurate value for T.
· According to another student’s observation, how does the time

11. A student is verifying the relation between Time period of simple pendulum
and its length. As shown in the figure: He uses the meter rule to measure
length L of simple pendulum. He uses the stopwatch of accuracy 0.01s to
measure the time period of simple pendulum The diameter of bob is 1.8 cm.

square root of its length:
He calculate radius of the bob by using vernier calipers = 1.3 cm. He take length
