of each loop is 36. Find the frequency for the A.C.
b. Stationary waves are produced in a 10 m long stretched string. If the string
vibrates in 5 segments and wave velocity is 20 m/sec, then the frequency is (in

7. A student is carrying out an experiment to Determine the wavelength of sound in
air using stationary waves and to calculate the speed of sound using resonance
tube using setup as shown in the figure.
As explained in above figure that in the resonance air column experiment with one
end closed tube we get first resonance air column at the length λ/4, where λ is the
wavelength of sound wave produced by the tuning fork in use. Here the length of
1st resonant air column is l1=15cm.Hence λ/4=15cm.
· The second resonant air column will be obtained at the length l2
· The Third resonant air column will be obtained at the length l3
· What sound frequency has a 0.10-m wavelength when the speed of sound is
340 m/s?
· A tuning fork of frequency 500 Hz is sounded on a resonance tube; the first and
second resonance is obtained at 17 cm and 52 cm. the velocity of the sound in
m/s?
8. The class is investigating the oscillations of a pendulum. A student
measures the length l of the pendulum and takes readings of the time
t for 20 complete oscillations. He calculates the period T of the pendulum.
T is the time taken for one Complete oscillation. He repeats the procedure
for range of lengths. He plots graph of T 2/S 2 against l / m.
· Using the graph, determine the length l of a pendulum that has a
period T = 2.0 s. Show clearly on the graph how did you obtain the
necessary information. l = ...........
· Explain why measuring the time for 20 swings, rather than for 1
swing, gives a more accurate value for T.
· According to another student’s observation, how does the time
period of simple pendulum change with mass?
· Suggest how many different masses should the student use for this
laboratory experiment.
· Suggest a range of suitable values for the masses.
· If length of pendulum is taken as 60 cm for 30 vibrations. What will
be the value of g for this length.
· What will be the effect on time period if mass of bob is increased 4
times.
· How will the time period of simple pendulum be affected if the
amplitude is changed and rotation of earth is stopped?
