Question 1:

Formulate a case study of a Schizophrenic pateint. Write positive and negaitive


symptoms:

Sarah : “A Case Study of Schizophrenic patient.

Background:
Sara is 28 years old young lady. Who is a former school teacher but three months ago, she gave
birth to a new born, she was suffering from postpartum depression. Sara's family took her to the
psychologists because she had shown alarming behavioral changes in the previous six months.
Sarah's family reports that she has been becoming less social, expressing bizarre beliefs ( her in-
laws try to give her poison), and experiencing hallucinations like hearing some threatening
supernatural voices, that are commanding her to harm herself and her husband otherwise they
will kill her baby that causes her distress. She talks in fragments and jump from one topic to
another. She struggles completing work, maintaining personal hygiene in daily routine.

Positive Symptoms:
1. Delusions: Sarah firmly believes that she is in danger from in-laws side.
2. Hallucinations: Sarah reports hearing voices that are threatening and causing her significant
distress. Shee has suicidal hallucination
3. Disorganized Speech: Sarah's speech is often fragmented. She jumps from one topic to
another without logical connections, making it difficult for others to understand her.

Negative Symptoms:
1.Social Withdrawal: Sarah has gradually withdrawn from social interactions.
2. Affective Flattening: Sarah's rarely shows joy, sadness, or anger, even in situations that
would typically elicit such emotions.
3. Avolition: Sarah struggles with initiating and completing daily activities. She neglects
personal hygiene, fails to maintain her previous interests.
Treatment:
1. Medications: Sarah is prescribed antipsychotic medication, such as Clozapine ( it lowers the
risk of suicidal behaviour or olanzapine, to manage her symptoms. The medication helps reduce
the severity of positive symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions.

2. Psychotherapy: Sarah will participate in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to address her


delusions and hallucinations, and to improve her coping strategies.

3. Social Support: Sarah's family will be involved in her treatment plan to provide emotional
support and assistance with daily activities.
