Teacher and Form Tutor

Role
To ensure the effective teaching of all pupils, helping them to develop both inside and outside the
classroom. Support the policies and aims of the School and ensure the good social, emotional and
physical development of every child.
Key deliverables
1. Teaching and Learning
• To plan and deliver lessons in accordance with the agreed schemes of work in a
stimulating, caring and disciplined environment that allows access to the curriculum
by all pupils.
• To track, monitor, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of
pupils three times a year.
• To lead at least one subject to ensure quality curriculum provision, high standards of
teaching and learning and good pupil progress in that subject
• To participate cross curricular themed days on a topic agreed by the whole staff team
as required.
• To plan and execute differentiated educational activities to meet the specific learning
needs of individual pupils.
• To mark pupils’ work in line with the marking and presentation policy
• To set individual targets and to communicate and manage pupils progress towards
them
• To plan interventions where necessary to ensure that wherever possible targets are

• To plan, set and mark homework in accordance with the homework policy
2. Form Tutor
• To actively assume the lead responsibility for the overall academic achievements and
pastoral welfare of all pupils in your class
• To listen to each pupil read at least once a week, (more regularly if requested by
SENco or English teacher) to record progress in the pupil’s reading record book
• To monitor all homework diaries on a weekly basis to ensure that homework is being
set and completed as required and that all parental communication is being followed
up in a timely manner.
• To follow up on feedback from staff regarding behaviour
• To be the ambassador for the School values within your class.
• To communicate with parents via email, telephone, face to face meetings or via the
homework diary as required and in a timely manner
• To communicate with and be available to colleagues
• Classroom tidy, updated displays every half term
• Lead a Values assembly once a term
3. Other Activities
• Update pastoral records on the S drive as needed.
• Communicating and co-operating with persons or bodies outside the school.
• Participating in meetings arranged for any of the purposes described above.
• Accompanying pupils on trips away from the school – occasionally residential
• Maintaining and monitoring display work in common areas of the school.
• Organising and leading a weekly club
• Supervising children at break times and lunch times on a rota basis.
• To attend and assist with School Open Days and other formal School occasions i.e
concerts, prize-giving etc.
4. Assessments and Reports
• Providing/contributing oral and/or written assessments, reports and references relating
to individual/groups of pupils
5. Appraisal
• Participating in the School’s performance management process.
6. Further Learning and Development
• Participating in arrangements for your professional development.
7. Educational Methods
• Advising and co-operating with the Headteacher and other Teachers on the
preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching
programmes, methods of teaching and assessment of pastoral arrangements.
• Being aware of developments in IT and how they may be integrated into your subject
and into the whole school.
8. Discipline, Health and Safety
• Maintaining good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguarding their health
and safety both when they are on the school premises and when they are engaged in
authorised school activities elsewhere.

• Maintaining personal standards of appearance and behaviour as determined by the
school policies and the Headmistress
9. Staff Meetings
• To attend weekly staff meetings and briefings
• To attend INSET training.
• To work with other members of staff as necessary at the end of the academic year to
ensure a smooth transition for pupils and teaching staff into the next year.
10. Administration
• Participating in administrative and organisational tasks related to such duties as are
described above, including the management or supervision of persons providing
support for the teachers in the school and the ordering and allocation of equipment
and materials.
• Attending assemblies, registering the attendance of pupils and supervising them,
whether these duties are to be performed before, during or after School sessions.
The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and
young persons for who s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to
adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all
times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the Job holder becomes aware of
any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school s/he must
report any concerns to the School’s Child Protection Officer or to the Headteacher.
