Duration: 2 Hour Total Marks: 60
1. In the downtown section of Jaipur, two sets of one-way streets intersect. A system of lin-
ear equation is modelled below considering the average hourly volume of traffic entering and
leaving this section during a rush hour;
2x1 + 6x2 + x3 = 0,
−3x1 − 8x2 = 0,
4x1 + 9x2 + 2x3 = 0,
where, x1 , x2 and x3 represent the amount of traffic between each of the four intersections
respectively. Solve the linear system using LU decomposition in order to determine the hourly
volumes of traffic. (12M)
2. Let T : R3 → R3 ; T (x, y, z) = (x + y, y + z, z + x). Verify that the given transformation is
isomorphism also verify the Rank-Nullity theorem. (12M)
3. Let the transformations T : R2 → R2 is given by T (u1 , u2 ) = (u1 + u2 , 3u1 + 3u2 ) and
S : R2 → R2 is given by S(v1 , v2 ) = (3v1 − v2 , −3v1 + v2 ). Compute SoT and T oS. (12M)
4. Check whether the matrix A is positive definite or not. Find A10 using similar matrices concept.
1 −1 −1
A = −1 1 −1 .
−1 −1 1
(12M)
5. Check whether the given matrix A is diagonalizable or not, if so, write the matrix P such that
P −1 AP is a diagonal matrix
1 −3 3
A = 3 −5 3 .
6 −6 4
