Find neutral axis to sa sfy equilibrium by trial and error

Tp = Pretension.
∑ Fy= 0
Tp = n x Tmin.
∴ C = Ryf + Tp + T
Tp = 32 bolts x 658 kN/bolt.

∑ Mo= 0 Tp = 21056 kN

∴ C x a + T x a = Mhf

By trial & error find offset that

offset = 935.6 mm

∴ From Geometry

And η = 2
Center to Centroid of 2 Bolts = a =962.34 mm

and 𝑣̅ =1.469 (Unitless volume of cylindrical hoof stress block in compression)

Check
T= 50kN/bolt x 2 = 100 kN

∴ C = Ryf + Tp + T= 21718 kN

∴ C x a + T x a = 6692.37 kN. m ≅ Mhf – Ok

Rh-f anb My-f Case C
Consider Rhf and My-f distributed evenly on the 30 anchor bolts that maintain pretension load. The force

Vf = + = + = 22 kNf/bolt < 141 kN

Conclusion C

∴ The base plate connec on can carry loads associated with single load line break without permanent
deforma on of base plate. Some anchor bolts will have lost pretension and should be replaced a er

Fin Design for Base Plate S ffener

The governing load case is case B. Tr is lower bound limit on strength of bolts. Bolt strength in general
exceeds Tr and we want to design fins to carry expected tension load that could develop form load case
B. ∴ Let Φbolt = 1 to give mean bolt strength Tm= 708/0.8= 885 kN

Check Opening Fin

Assume Opening fin carries full Tm from 2 Bolts

Pf = 2 x 885 kN = 1770 kN
